I think everyone has a few items in their wardrobe that, for whatever reason, don't pull their weight. I'm wearing one of mine today, a silk skirt from Banana Republic that I bought last spring because I looooooved it. On the hanger.
But I don't quite think I love it on me. I keep trying, but it's sort of hard to make this one a go-to piece and I don't know why. Anyway, it survived my consignment shop cull this season, but it might not be a keeper for next year:
What do you think? Am I just not being creative enough about how I wear it?
top: LOFT
skirt: Banana Republic
shoes: Frye Mary sandals
necklace: Keen Designs
bag: Marc Jacobs collection

I think you look lovely! I struggle with skirts that have that cut, but in my case it's because it highlights my post partum belly. You could try a belt? I know this is what I always say, though.
ReplyDeleteI think the skirt is lovely, but I think it's a little big on you. I think that cut of skirt is supposed to sit a little higher. I think Mariannae's suggestion to try it with a belt is good. And I think it would be a good contrast to a more vibrant top. Maybe an orange or a purple shirt.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right, Tina. Maybe it's just too big. I do sort of hate how it highlights my stomach but I have no idea how to even belt a dropped waist-type deal. Where would I put the belt, you guys?
ReplyDeleteYou could try getting it taken in at the waist. OR, I would try a stretchy belt that covers where the top of the skirt meets your shirt (and I love the idea of a bright orange top). Or I would do a more hip-slung belt a little lower.
ReplyDeleteY'all think I can wear orange?
ReplyDeleteA coral-y orange, like the Claudine tee from anthro. I am wearing it in some post from early on.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it needs a brighter shirt. I like the shape and think it looks good on you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback, all! I don't have a coral/orange shirt but now I feel like I need one. Like, now.
ReplyDeleteYou'd look great in orange.
ReplyDeleteI quite like that skirt! It seems like it would be really versatile. Despite that, I know what it is like to kind of pass over a garment for arbitrary undefinable reasons.
ReplyDeleteYour shoes and bag are fantastic and I love that top!
Still in love with those sandals! I agree it looks a tad too big for you. Maybe taking it in a bit, but I love how you put the purple sandals with it.
