Adrien: I should just burn it.

The dress I'm wearing today frustrates me to no end. It looks like it should work with everything but instead it works with nothing. The last time I wore it I was really annoyed with every pairing I came up with and when I tried it again this morning I ran into the same problem. Black is too strong, all my belts looked wrong, my necklaces weren't working, nothing worked. It's the dress, there's just something about it that's not quite right.

Now, viewing the photos I think the dress looks okay, but I'm still annoyed by it and I can't quite put my finger on why. I do think neutral/metallic sandals work better than black but...a bright bag looks better than the neutral I was considering. Not confusing at all. Bursts into flames.

  1. I have a very similar London Times dress - well, the cut is similar, the print is different (mine is blue and black). And I have similar issues that you have, even after I took the hem up (which helped some of my issues with it, but not all of them). It seems like a dress that would go with a lot, but then when trying, I never feel like it does.

But I like the silhouette of this dress on you, and I love it with the gold shoes. The bright teal is a fantastic color with the dress, too. I'd imagine white would work well, as would another brightly colored shoe, like the vibrancy of your teal bag.

I hate that feeling, but I think you look lovely!

  2. I was just going to suggest taking the hem up! I find that that fixes a lot of my mysteriously wrong dresses.

  3. I was also going to suggest taking the hem up. I like the blue bag with it and might even consider brighter colors.

  4. Thanks for the feedback! You know, I never even considered that the hem length might be part of the issue, but I really think it is. It's just a smidge too long, which makes it look a bit dowdy, right? Hmm.

  5. Yep, chop a couple of inches off and you're set. I like the metallic shoe but the blue in the bag really sets it off, making me wonder about a neutral bag and bright turquoise shoe combo?
