Don't get me wrong, they are both adorable pieces on their own but together it creates two big blocks of color on your legs which messes up the proportions and makes your legs look a bit stumpy. I think this is especially true for black boots. I only wear them with dark pants, otherwise you have this really "heavy" block of color on the bottom kinda weighing down the outfit. I think with an ankle boot, heel or flat this would be adorable!Jessicanoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1145183089731808312.post-8445163310183561562014-12-18T07:05:24.629-08:002014-12-18T07:05:24.629-08:00Thanks for the feedback, all! I...I have a very similar problem with bold pieces. I have a pair of tomato red cords that I ADORE but yes, they are hard to style. I agree that you need a boxier, swingier top, and that the boots or at least the boots with the bag aren't quite working. I suggest a striped top, actually - either black and white or grey and white, and then you can keep the black boots but do a black or grey bag, Or a bag that is a totally different pop of color like turquoise. But the brown is competing with the red and the black, IMO. I have had a lot of success this year with b/w stripes paired with a bright color - it's a nod to all the heinous 80s/90s stuff in the stores right now (NO NO NO LIVED IT ONCE BUT NEVER AGAIN) but age appropriate and not too trendy.Auntie Gnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1145183089731808312.post-43469454761140165752014-12-18T05:41:53.060-08:002014-12-18T05:41:53.060-08:00Cognac ankle boots? The red is too warm and deep for that sweater (a light, cool grey). If you wore the red pants with a dark brown sweater and brown boots, it would look much more cohesive (all of the parts of the outfit would be warm, rich colors). If you wanted to keep the black boots, you could just switch to a black sweater, and then all the colors would be dark, and the look would be much more harmonious.
