I hate the word Panties.

M:  We could talk about how I am having a panty freakout but you don't like to talk about your underwear on the Internet.

A: I don't, no, but we can talk about your underwear if you want.

M: OH BOY. Okay, it all started with an innocent trip to Old Navy to stock up on my favorite underwear OF ALL TIME, their mesh lace boyshort whatever they are called. Only to find NONE. And they aren't online, either. AND THEN I read this.

A: WHO DISCONTINUES A LADY'S UNDERPANTS.

M: WHO? WHO DOES THAT? I'm not lying when I say this has seriously put me into panic mode. I'm having to shop for a new style of draws for the first time in years and I'm all WTF IS A TANGA?

A: I think that means they dip in the front? I don't know. I will break my silence and say I pretty much only wear these:

Also, these are unattractive but great for wearing under full skirts:

Soma vanishing edge hipster

A: God, I can't believe I just told the Internet that. UNDO.

M: I think this means I WIN. Also, I don't do thongs. I'm looking at these:

A: Those are super pretty but I worry about ass-hang.

M: Also, love Hanky Panky but after paying $5/pair for the Old Navy version for so long, I can't handle the prices.

A: I always get them on super-sale. Dillard's!

M: Oh really? Huh.

A: They go on sale and then sometimes they'll have an extra 40% off and yeah. Like, $6-8 each if you're not picky about color.

M: See, there is where I'm a pain in the ass. I just want nude lace PANTIES, INTERNET. God, I am sorry I keep saying panties so much. So, so sorry. Panties.

A: STOP THAT GOD.

M: panties

A: I knew this was a mistake.

  1. Discontinuing things are the worst. Especially clothing items that you could conceivably stockpile until the end of time, had you known.

I also hate the word "panties." And I cannot do thongs or regular underwear that ends up "in the vortex" as mentioned in the blog you linked to. I had a bunch of pairs with this sorta grip-y silicone on the edges, which was fantastic, but those were discontinued.

    1. Carly, the Soma pair I linked have silicone grippy bits around the back edge and they do. not. budge.

    2. I also found some silicone grippy edged unmentionables at Target; I think it was their brand, too, so not too expensive.

  2. I also hate the word "panties".....absolutely hate it and would never called them that. I call them undies or underwear. My favorite undies are actually tangas! I've been wearing Maidenform Tangas forever. The difference in the tanga style is in the back. It's higher up on the thigh/butt than bikinis and certainly higher than boy shorts but it isn't in your crack like a thong. I like them because they look better on the butt and thigh. But I do get annoyed with Maidenform because they are constantly changing their Tangas. So just when I like one style of Tanga, they drop it and create another one.

  5. A friend of mine mentioned hating that word. Another friend mentioned an alternative that is now forever ingrained in my head when I hear the word "panties". The alternative? Twat socks. You're welcome. :)

(I really should have posted anonymously, huh?)

  6. I need to know what you end up doing, Marianne! Those were my (wince) panties, too! Effing Old Navy.

  7. Oh yes the words "panties" is so perverse, i did a little facebook survey once and all my female friends *hated* it. It is not used very often in Australia though, we tend to say "undies" or the more British "knickers". Luckily.

  8. My panties, too! I e-mailed Old Navy about a year ago when I couldn't find them, and they unhelpfully linked me to some GapBody ones that are not the same AT ALL.

However, I just received some VS cotton ones with ruched backs, and so far, so good. 7/$26, so I got sucked in.

  9. I have never tried the old navy ones, HOWEVER, I swear by the aerie undies. I like the tangas and the bootyshorts from them. They usually have deal deals, like 7 for $25, and that's when I snatch (pun-y) them up.

  10. I love "The Lacie" from Victoria's Secret - both thong and boyshort. Plus 3 for $30 isn't TOO horrible, and it comes in a bunch of colors.

  11. Thanks for breaking the panty silence. I myself benefited from the low-rise thong disclosure. I feel like a moron for not knowing about Hanky Pankies until just yesterday. Sheesh. At 41, a girl can use all the help she can get to make clothes look like they're worth a plug nickel. And unflattering thong squish lines are not going to help me accomplish that goal. Where have these been all my adult life?! Thanks for performing this particular community service!

  12. I can't do a tanga because I have a mama pooch and a badonkadonk and the combo just makes them roll under the pooch and ride up my butt crack. TMI? I also swear by Hanky Panky, but I like the retro high-waist because they don't roll or show a line in front. Like you, I wait for sales at department stores though the nude NEVER GOES ON SALE. Bah.

    1. Alison, I think we have the same underwear issues. And WHY don't the nude ever go on sale? It hurts my feeeeelings.

    2. I'm curious about this retro high-waist business! Must check out.

    1. Andrea, they have weird little grippy strips around the edge that keep them absolutely in place without VPL. I prefer them under short/full skirts in case of strong wind or whatnot.

  14. I myself am a gap body low rise thong girl all the way - cotton, and very comfy. And they go on sale for about $5 very regularly. Win!

  15. Do they not have Bonds in the states yet? http://www.bonds.com.au/womens/underwear.html
Egads, I was upset by this when we lived there, but I thought it would have been remedied by now. Australian women swear by them. Everything stays inside, lots of colors and shape options, cotton-rich fabrication so the ladyparts can breathe.

  16. PS: we say 'undies'. 'Panties' is just a big bowl of wrong.

  17. If you haven't worn the Hanky Panky ones, try them they are worth every penny you pay for them. They do have some good sales periodically too.

  18. Those Gap lace short skivvies are killer. No ass-hang. that's all I'll say about that.

  19. I just stumbled onto your blog and I must say...you guys are FREAKING HILARIOUS! I don't even care what you're wearing, I just want to read your conversations, all day. Thank you!

  20. I love the Old Navy panties too! I email them every once in a while to bring them back but they just respond that they have been discontinued. I have looked for years to find a replacement but nothing so far . . .maybe if more people ask them to bring them back they will.
