Adrien: Banged.

A little while ago I asked you guys if you thought I could pull off blunt bangs and the encouragement was positive, so I just went and did it. (Or rather, my stylist did it. Otherwise things would be Real Bad.) I was more worried about changing my part than I was about the bangs, but my hair seems mostly okay with it:

not at all filtered.

That photo makes my hair look pretty flat but hey, BANGS. This is what it looked like this morning:

tooootally not filtered.

I'm still (obviously) learning how to dry it and make things lay correctly, but overall I'm happy with the cut. I needed a CHANGE, y'all. I needed something different. If you have that urge, I highly recommend just going with it.

Now, do you straight-hairs have any good product recommendations for me? I'm currently using Aveda Phomollient (eh, no longer love it) and will probably buy the Bumble & bumble Straight Blow Dry (why did I stop using this?) or a tube of the Repair Blow Dry. What else do I need?

What I Bought At Sephora.

I added a bunch more stuff to the blog shop yesterday! Frye, BCBG, Anthro, J.Crew! Whee!

Last week was Sephora's big VIB sale, which was 20% off for VIB-status folks. I had just gotten a load of makeup from Marianne so I wasn't feeling super wanty, but I did buy a few things:

Mushroomy

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil Mushroom
I have been eyeing this one for a while because it reminds me of a (now discontinued) MAC eye kohl pencil that I used to love. A taupey-grey-purple color. It's a good one.

Good stuff.

Benefit Cosmetics Dandelion
This is probably the fourth time I've re-purchased this. I always go through this quiet struggle where I'm sure I can find a dupe, it's just pale pink blush, right? But nothing is quite as good, so I keep buying it. Also, I really like the packaging and the little brush that comes with it.

The bossy English lady likes it.

CLINIQUE Mild Clarifying Lotion
This was highly recommended by Caroline Hirons as a great, non-drying acid toner. You get a lot of product for your money and it's really quite nice, though I haven't been using it long enough to give a fair assessment. Time will tell.

Also, has anyone tried the CLINIQUE Beyond Perfecting Foundation + Concealer? I got a sample with my order but it was about eight shades too dark. The concept seems interesting, though.

Adrien: Drapey Is My Friend.

Winter was long and my favorite jeans... don't really fit right now. The button on this pair is currently being held together with a hair elastic if that tells you anything. Ugh. But, I'm working on it and in the meantime I'm very much a fan of all my drapey hidey layers:

My top is Banana Republic, though it's apparently already sold out. This BR top appears to be the same color? My cardigan I bought at TJ Maxx when I was visiting Marianne. It's GOOD, you guys. Thin but with a good drape and the back has an interesting split detail that's pretty:

I found it online here for $20 but I think I paid $17 for mine. (I also bought it in grey because that's how I do.) My jeans are by a local company that doesn't make women's jeans anymore, which is probably for the best. Too tempting. Also, the pair I have doesn't currently fit anyway. Did I mention that?

Moving on to my favorite part! I'm wearing my Lotta From Stockholm clog sandals and carrying my new precious MBMJ Too Hot To Handle Hobo. I clearly love this purchase and it doesn't require hair accessories to fit properly. Hmph.

One of my tassel necklaces, this one is Lulu Frost for J.Crew from last year and it's a lovely beast. J.Crew is always good for a cute tassel necklace even if the stones fall out.

The Seinfeld Effect.

A: We're going to need to talk about this.

L: Oh, honey. You're wearing penis pants!

A: I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

L: I think once you're Seinfeld-level wealthy people stop telling you when things are a bad idea. This is just a guess.

A: I'm sure Jerry was like, "Hey, honey? Um...nothing. Never mind."

L: "What's the deal with diaper pants?" Could you imagine if Elaine wore those?

A: There would be an entire episode about the penis pants!

L: These are definitely Puffy Shirt level funny.

A: But I don't wanna be a pirate!

L: I have to say I'd like to see these on Kramer.

A: No. No. Stop that.

L: Ankles on display. Maybe with an urban sombrero?

A: LALALALAICAN'THEARYOU

L: OWN IT:

A: You know what I realized? Those penis pants are probably Rachel Comey. WHAT IS WRONG WITH HER.

L: She's evil. Clearly.

A: !!!!!

L: I quit.

Weekend Window Shopping: Clog Sandals.

I'm still completely obsessed with my Lotta From Stockholm peep toe sandals and really wanted a second pair in red, but they've sold out of my size. (SAD FACE.)  I started poking around to see what else is available from other brands and was pleasantly surprised:

Cute Boy Friday!

I am sitting here with a blank brain and a slack jaw trying to think of a cute boy for Friday. I am failing, so I would like your suggestions. Who am I overlooking? In the meantime, I will give you some Cute Man in the form of Idris Elba because why not:

Woof. I hope the James Bond thing actually happens. I can't imagine anyone more awesome to follow in Daniel Craig's footsteps. I just passed out.

Stuff Marianne Gave Me That I Love.

So, one of the things Marianne and I did while I was visiting was to sort through all her makeup. She asked me hesitantly, as if I might say no. Um, YES? YES. I live for this shit! Let me at it! In the course of this activity we threw out a LOT of stuff, but I also became the happy owner of a bunch of new makeup. Yay! Here's what I'm currently loving:

Pretty Princess

Dior Addict Lip Glow
Okay, this stuff is kind of ridiculous. I mean, really. $33 for a barely-tinted lip balm? Really? But oh my God you guys, I LOVE THIS STUFF. It has an oddly appealing scent, leaves a nice sheer glossy pink tint on my lips and the packaging is pure luxury. It's so pretty! I am embarassed by how happy the packaging makes me, but not so embarassed that I won't admit it to you all. Prettiest lip product I own.

That Gal There

Benefit Cosmetics 'That Gal' Brightening Face Primer
Marianne gave me a deluxe sample tube of this and it's one of those confusing Benefit products that you're not really sure what it's for, exactly. Okay, a primer, sure. But it's pink. And smells vaguely of raspberry and the applicator looks like weird deodorant. But, I tried it under my foundation and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it made my face look. Just a bit brighter and slightly glowy but not obvious or shimmery. I dig it.

BB 'n Beyond
Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer
I was dumb and didn't read the (tiny sample tube) packaging, so I slapped this on thinking it was tinted primer, when in fact it's BB cream. The color I have is a bit too light for me but if I use a little of this as primer and then my regular foundation over it the results are super nice (though probably because I'm wearing a metric ton of makeup at that point.) I would like to get a sample in the right color to try as a summer foundation. Good stuff and SPF 30!

Stretchy
CANMAKE Cover & Stretch Concealer
Marianne reviewed this a while back and liked it but thought it was too dry for her under eyes. I disagree and find it's quite good for the under eye area, though I always put eye cream on first. It's a bit sheer but layers well and has great staying power. And it's waterproof! And not expensive! Bonus. It's not my first tier concealer but it's a great makeup bag option.

That's all for now! Y'all know I took advantage of the Sephora VIB sale so I'll talk about that next week.

Adrien: Well, This Happened.

So, I'll just start by saying that April is not going to be a good month for the budget. In fact, I think I'm just going to pull a mulligan for spring and start up the budgeting again in June. In my defense, I have been going through all my stuff and took a bunch of clothes to the consignment store and I've been listing items (mine and Marianne's) in the blog shop daily, so keep checking back!

Now, on to the show. I am wearing an outfit. Also, this:

Too Hot To Handle Hobo

YEAH. A MBMJ Too Hot To Handle Hobo. I finally got a 30% off coupon for Piperlime and they'd put it on sale already and...yeah. It was nearly half off retail, so I am happy with the price and completely blotto insane over this bag. I LOVE IT. I think I love it more than the classic Hillier. Yes, I said that. The Too Hot is slightly bigger and wider and the lining is more subtle, which is a nice touch. Also, the magnet closure is leather-covered like the old Hilliers, a feature I'm really glad they brought back. Okay, now my outfit:

I'm wearing my new coated denim jacket from Banana Republic (apparently sold out but this one is rull cute) and an Old Navy dress Marianne gave me. It's from a few seasons back I think, but they have lots of fun print dresses right now! I need to go check them out.  This is what happens when I get busted by a pedestrian:

derp.

Embarassing. I'm wearing my super favorite red Chie Mihara mary janes, long since discontinued. Might I recommend this pair by Miz Mooz instead? This fancy pair is also very tempting. And again, I want to show you this:

The color is "cement" and it's the perfect neutral. Not quite grey, not quite taupe, not quite tan, but works in all those capacities. It's so good, you guys. It's not marked down anywhere right now but Saks has it and it's eligible for the F&F discount. (You're welcome!)

BUY THIS (So We Don't Have To): Saks Friends & Family

It's Saks Friends & Family time: use code FRNFAM for 30% off plus 8.0% cash back with eBates! There is a ridiculously long list of exclusions but still lots of good stuff available. Now would be a great time to pick up a fun little luxury for summer:

We Have Thoughts About Coachella.

L: As my husband astutely pointed out this weekend, I wasn't into what "the kids were doing" even when I was a kid, so maybe I was just born old, BUT: what the hell are the kids wearing at Coachella??

A: I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS. SO MANY. Perhaps a list.

L: 1. If you're not a hippie in your non-festival life, you don't get to
be a hippie at a festival.

A: 2. High waisted jeans look good on exactly nobody.

L: 3. John Lennon sunglasses looked bad in the 60s. John Lennon sunglasses looked bad in the 90s. John Lennon sunglasses look bad now.

A: 4. Which reminds me: Sean Lennon. Can he be stopped? Please?

L: 5. Your butt is popping out of your short-shorts.

A: 6. Nepotism! It’s always in style.

L: 7. You are wearing too many accessories.

A: 8. How is Alexa Chung always SO G-D FLAWLESS.

L: 9. Zoe Kravitz: 100% cool gene inheritance complete.

A: 10. Katy Perry looks cute.

L: 11. You jack Jimi Hendrix's style, you're bound to look cool.

A: 12. Don’t hassle The Hoff! (What?)

L: 13. If you're a bro, you're gonna have a hard time looking "wacky."

A: 14.  Justin Bieber continues to fill me with nameless rage.

L: 15. You chill with Chris Brown, you're bound to make people have nameless rage about you.

A: 16. NO. I just got ragey all over again.

L: 17. All of you at Coachella are trying too hard. Stop making us mad.

A: 18. I need to go lie down.

Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz.

***New stuff from me and Marianne in the shop! MBMJ, Anthro, Loeffler Randall!***

For years and years and years I didn't bother to fill my brows. I got them shaped and kept them tidy but I never filled them in. Then I got older and something happened - they started to look sad and patchy. (GETTING OLD IS THE WORST.)

So, I started filling them in, first with some ancient Club Monaco brow powder that grossed out Marianne, then with Benefit Gimme Brow (eh), then with the Urban Decay Brow Box (good.) I also have an NYX brow pencil stashed in my bag  just in case. If you're like, "Eh, I don't get the big deal" here's what I'm talking about:

no brows

all the brows

Right? Your brows frame your face and give you expression. You don't have to go crazy, but if you're not one of those hateful people with perfect, dark brows, go ahead and fill them in. Take before and after photos and see what you think. In the picture above I'm using the Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil in caramel because Marianne told me to buy it. It's expensive for the amount of product you get but DAMN DO I LOVE IT. One end is a super-skinny mechanical pencil and the other end is a brow spoolie. It stays all day and looks very sharp. Brow Wiz gives a more "done" look than brow powder but I have pretty much given up on natural. Here's a super creepy close-up with my hair pulled back:

BROWZZ
What do you guys like for your brows, or do you leave them alone? Also! It looks like NYX has knockoff versions of both Gimme Brow and Brow Wiz. Has anyone tried them?

PS. I am totally using one of those teenager filtering selfie apps because I got tired of how horrifying my skin looks under florescent lighting. It's best for everyone involved. trust me.

Weekend Window Shopping: Liberty Prints.

I'm not really a girly-girl and as a general rule I don't do floral prints but man do I love a Liberty print. Like, really, really love. They're just so cheerful and English and groovy, you know?  I am occasionally reminded of this abiding love by Kim France who posts things that make me cry. You guys. I want that. I want it badly enough to search out what else might be available in a Liberty print. Stuff like this:

Cute Boy Friday!

So! I am always Team Hugo and will never stop wanting to #GoHugo everything but going forward it makes more sense to save it for Hugo updates/scans, so please know that we'll keep you all posted and the Canada family is so appreciative of all the love and support y'all have given. You guys are the best.

In the meantime, Friday is back to regular old cute boys day. And by old, I mean hey...remember how smoking hot Harrison Ford was? I feel like Han Solo was totally lost on me as a kid. He seemed old! Like, in his thirties! Ha. Hahaha. *weeping*

But truly, the peak of his hotness was definitely as Indiana Jones:

Also, I found this:

You're welcome.

Boden Milano Dress: You Need This.

Okay, I know I've been talking about this Boden dress for a million years but it's $59.40 right now and YOU GUYS. It's so good. Mine arrived last week and wore it to a work event and it's SO GOOD. Less than $60 is A STEAL. I want another color. I want all the colors, even the ones that aren't on sale.

Totally worth $60.

I'll post an outfit next week and then I swear I'll stop talking about it. Seriously. I will. (It's good.)

We Are Not Fashion People.

source: The Sartorialist
A: Is there a more extreme word for scrolldown? Scrollnope? Scrollhorror? Scrollnoooooo?

L: She looks so lovely until you get to the hems.

A: She's even layering chunky knits like a boss! And then...womp.

L: OK, on the plus side? She is upcycling! (God I hope so, and simultaneously desperately hope she did not pay retail for those.)

A: Um.

L: Rachel Comey, WHY DO YOU HATE US?

A: THREE HUNDRED AND FORTY FIVE AMERICAN DOLLARS.

L: No, that makes sense. In a world where a downpayment on a small two bedroom apartment in NYC is $200K, that toooooooootally makes sense.

A: I am not thinking like a Fashion Person. I am also not layering chunky knits with a jaunty knit scarf.

L: But are you topping off your look with a hair-colored beanie?

A: And I don't know what bag that is but I want it. And her eyebrows. Not her shoes.

L: She does have effortlessly lovely brows! Let's just start over with her outfit from there.

A: I can't unsee those pants, Lili.

L: Straight outta dELiA*s!

A: #NOPE

L: I'll only go back to the 90s if I get my unappreciated, high-school body back.

A: Doc Martens were the only good thing about the 90s.

L: You know? Docs would've totally made her outfit better.

A: THEY WOULD HAVE.

BUY THIS (So We Don't Have To): J.Crew Vague-Sale.

J.Crew has a pretty good deal going on right now, though it’s a vague code and I hate those. The deal: up to 75% off original prices with code THEBEST. Ugh, J.Crew, use your words! What that actually means according to the small print:

Total discount from original price includes current sale price together with redemption of 30% or 50% discount using promo code THEBEST. 25% discount valid on the purchase of items marked "25% off with code THEBEST”. 30% discount valid on the purchase of sale items in J.Crew stores and at jcrew.com. 50% discount valid on the purchase of final sale items marked "Extra 50% off with code THEBEST"

OKAY. So, depending on the item you will get you 25%, 30% or 50% off the current price. Plus, you can get a paltry 1.5% cash back with eBates. (Hey, better than nothing. Also, my referral link.) Here’s what looks promising to me:

Ruffle hem tank top in stripe
Marbella colorblock sandals
Drapey double-twill skirt
Chained orb earrings
Reid Japanese selvedge jean in emerson wash
Printed magic wallet

Review: Everlane Heavyweight Tee

After much patient waiting, my backordered Everlane striped Heavyweight Tee finally arrived right before I left for Knoxville. Convenient! I'd ordered a medium because I wanted it to be roomy and fall straight. It's definitely a bit over-sized on me but I got the fit I was hoping for. A small would've worked on me, so I would call it true-to-size. I got the light grey/white but I'm pretty tempted by the darker colorway too.

Like the terrible style blogger I am, I wore it all damn day before thinking to make Marianne take a photo, so it's pretty creased up:

I love this tee. It's a really nice heavyweight material but still very soft cotton, so it doesn't feel stiff at all. It has nice details like side vents and the stripes match up at the seams! I hate it when they don't.

Those are my new gold Lucky Brand sandals (they also come in brown) that Marianne forced me to buy. More on those soon!

The best part about photos at Marianne's house is that you always have adorable company, even if you're unaware. Heh.

Weekend Window Shopping: Marc By Marc Jacobs

The Marc by Marc Jacobs brand is closing and I am seriously bummed. While it's not all my style I appreciate the brand's sense of fun and I obviously love the bags. So much sads. Here's a selection of excellent MBMJ stuff that has the bonus of all being on sale!

Friday #GoHugo

By the time you read this I'll be on the road to Knoxville to visit Marianne and family! Unfortunately Alex Pettyfer was, like, busy or something and couldn't ride shotgun. His loss.

Adrien: ...And The Rest.

Yesterday you just got a shoe selfie (sorry!) and today you get the rest of the outfit. I'll admit that lately I've been really, really uninspired when it comes to outfits. I am just sick of all my clothes and I haven't unpacked my summer stuff yet and ugh. You know. I promise to get it together soon. Until then, you get another one of my pushing-the-dress-code looks:

I'm wearing a cheap-ass top I got at Marshalls last year (exactly like this one only I saved $680! Ha. Fine, here's a nice middle-ground version.) I'm also wearing my 7FAM cigarette skinnies, a House of Harlow locket necklace and my new BR coated denim jacket

So close-up! So texture-y! I love this jacket.

Here's an awkward close up of my metallic linen TOMS and my MBMJ Globetrotter Kirsten hobo (which is completely sold out but this one is gorgeous and perfect and will make your life better. No, really.)

Not a shoe selfie.
