So, I decided to try try again and I ordered the FairyDrops Platinum Volume & Curl Mascara from an eBay seller. The Platinum formula also has the weird "dumpling" brush and is also waterproof:
It took weeks to arrive (eBay is cheaper, but slower) but finally I had it in my grubby grabby mitts. Here are some terrible before and after close-ups:
This is what I look like with eyeliner but no mascara. Believe it or not, my lashes have been curled. I applied two coats of the FairyDrops Platinum. The first went on pretty thin and the formula seemed kind of wet but it definitely lengthened. Feeling confident, I went in for a second coat and ohhh, no. Things got bad. Lashes stuck together, mascara went everywhere, reinforcements were called in. It was everywhere! I am bad at this! I actually wondered if I'd accidentally bought one of those ridiculous spiky lash mascaras. (WHY IS THIS A THING.) I cleaned it up and started over and finally got two successful coats going on. The results were good:
But yikes, I think this is one of those formulas that needs a little age on it first. Has anyone noticed that with some mascaras? That initially it was messy and hard to work with but after it dries out a bit it's way, way better? I think this is one of those. I will report back in a few weeks. In the meantime, I've also been using L'Oreal Voluminous Superstar Mascara with decent results. I don't always have time for all the steps, but it's pretty decent.
Oh, yes, that whole proper-cellaring-of-the-mascara-until-it's-drinkable thing. I know it well. Or am I getting mascara confused with cabernet sauvignon?
ReplyDeleteAt any rate, I find it's handy to keep a tissue nearby and gently blot the wand before I start applying. Especially the tip, because that's where a lot of the trouble originates.
So this whole Fairy Drops thing. Are they Korean? Japanese? MOAR DEETS PLEZ.
It's Japanese and in generally very good stuff. I totally blotted the wand but it needs, as you say, proper cellaring either way.
DeleteOf course I want to know how you discovered it. I just popped for three new tubes of L'Oreal Telescopic because they were 3 for 2 at Ulta. Why Telescopic? Is it a miracle product? No, it is not. However, it's one of the few mascaras left on the market that doesn't feel like I'm applying eye makeup with a baseball bat. I get that people want their lashes to look fuller, but does the mascara wand have to be the size of a baked potato?
DeleteJust wanted to say that I'm an e-Bay seller and not all e-Bay sellers are super slow!!! I ship the day or day after someone pays and they usually have the item in 2 days. I'm faster than most on-line stores. Check the feedback when you order. All my feedback says super fast shipping. So. There.
ReplyDeleteOh, it was slow because it came from Japan not because the seller wasn't any good. But I've bought stuff from overseas on Amazon and gotten them much faster, so who knows what happened. (I've been selling on eBay since the 90s so I don't really blame the seller, just the shipping method.)
DeleteSorry, Hong Kong, not Japan!
