Adrien: Weekendish Outfit

Yeah, I know it's Thursday but I have the day off because of a snowstorm that, amusingly, didn't actually start until after 9am. We decided to run out for provisions before it started and I got a couple of photos of my outfit because it's pretty typical of what I've been wearing on weekends - boots, jeggings, slouchy sweater. The usual.

Note to self: wear more makeup. Damn.

shirt: Gap long-sleeved thermal
cardigan: Gap animal print (similar)
jeggings: James Jean Twiggy Five-Pocket
boots: Frye Veronica Slouch
bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs Hillier Hobo

Marianne: Better on paper.

Ever since it got cold I've been wondering if I could make this skirt work for winter, and this is my first attempt. This was for a second work holiday party, in our freezing studio, hence the layers.
I don't know, y'all. I was all excited about these mustard colored tights, but I am not sure at all.
Looking at picture after picture isn't convincing me. Though I like the general idea of this outfit. Would boots improve the proportions?
Hot shoes, though.

In Case You Were Wondering What We Talk About.

Marianne: I know Tracy Anderson is evil but GODDAMN:

She looks like a million bucks.

Adrien: Yes, but that's because she doesn't eat.

Marianne: Right. I love food. I have to remember this.

Adrien: Plus! She is paid millions of dollars to look like that.

Marianne: Right! I have no dollars. I am getting paid no dollars to have a stomach like a mound of deflated dough.

Adrien: Totally! If someone wanted to pay me MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to be in a movie I'd gladly eat nothing but sand for a few months.

Marianne: Ooh, the sand diet. I bet that one works quicklike.

Adrien: You're full all the time! Also: cotton balls.

Marianne: Cotton balls soaked in water, if you're really hungry.

Adrien: On your cheat day you can soak them in broth!

Marianne: Don't be silly, moddle.

Adrien: Fat-free vegan organic vegetable broth?

Marianne: Are there calories in that? Maybe you can boil some celery in water. Is that broth?

Adrien: Um, yes? That is what vegetable broth is. Derp.

Marianne: Okay, boiled celery broth is acceptable, but still seen as a weakness in character.

Adrien: You're right. Maybe just water with lemon? Is lemon weak?

Marianne: Oh my god, lemon is a FRUIT! I DO NOT THINK YOU ARE REALLY COMMITTING YOURSELF HERE.

Adrien: Oh shit, that means lemon is basically CANDY. I just threw it away!

Marianne: I think I have to sit down. I cannot believe you eat LEMON.

Marianne: Just for that, no liquids for you for the rest of the day.

Marianne: And I'm taking away your sand ration.

Adrien: I'm SORRY. I DIDN'T KNOW. You know so much more about nutrition than I do!

Marianne: Next time, ask yourself: does this taste good? Am I getting the slightest enjoyment out of it? THEN YOU SHOULDN'T EAT IT GOD.

The exception is champagne. Somehow moddles are always allowed to drink champagne. Cheers!

Adrien: Yay! I will soak my cotton balls in champagne! Can I have some cotton balls, please?

Marianne: FINE.

Adrien: THANK YOU.

Adrien: Stay Puffed.

Coats were never my thing until I met Nina. I was happy having one or two basic coats that I'd wear until they became unspeakable and fell apart. Then I became friends with Nina who has some of the most amazing coats I've ever seen, and my eyes were opened because a good coat can make you look sharp and pulled-together like nothing else. Seriously!

Now I am the owner of many coats, though I didn't have a super warm coat to wear for my trip to Chicago last winter. So, Nina was nice enough to lend me one of her collection, a Cole Haan down-filled number with a belt and fold-over collar. The coat was amazingly warm and also easy to stuff into the overhead bin on the airplane. It was also surprisingly attractive for a big puffy coat. (It's hard to be glamorous when you're wrapped in a sleeping bag with sleeves.) I was sad to give it back! That's why when Nina offered to sell it to me dirt cheap back in August I jumped at the chance. I secretly hoped that by purchasing it, I'd ensure that it wouldn't snow at all this year.

Ha:

And my outfit, shortly before my face froze and fell off:

Marianne: Boot Deal, Part 2

Oh my goodness, I just realized that I never updated you guys on my boot saga! I am sure you've all been on the edge of your seats. I actually got them fixed a couple of weeks ago, but our internet has been out at home and that means no blogging.

Anyway, when last I left you, I was headed to my trusty shoe repair guy:
Yes, that's really what it is called. And yes, that's a wig shop next door. Excellent. Anyway, $16 and one new heel later, my boots are fixed and they are fabulous.
I decided to go with the lower of the two heel heights, since I really need a nice flat pair of boots.
As you can see, old Roger did a great job evening them out.
And I'm a happy camper. I got some fantastic boots for $32 total. Don't you love a happy ending?

Adrien: Holiday High

Hello! Sorry to disappear, but I've had a nasty cold all week and I'm just now coming out of my NyQuil-fueled haze. But, I thought I'd share with you all the beautiful Christmas present that I bought for myself. (Thank you, me! You're welcome, you.) I hit the outlet stores recently with my friend Nina and made the mistake of wandering into the Coach outlet. I saw this and sort of fell out:

Then an employee handed me a coupon for an extra 30% off because apparently Satan owns the Coach outlet. I said a string of bad words and put the bag on hold because I DO NOT NEED IT. BUT I WANT IT.

Then we continued on to Marshalls where I found a cute short Cole Haan coat which I tried on but rejected because I really need a long warm wool coat to replace my sad Benetton-via-thrift-store jobby. Then Nina (my intrepid enabler) found this coat and made me try it on and OH MY GOD. DAMN. IT. So so soft. So warm. So ME. And! It was marked down to a ridiculously low price for a wool-cashmere coat of such nice quality.

Then I was all: Bag or coat? Bag or coat? Bag or coat? And Nina was all: BOTH. And I was all: SHUSH.

So, I bought the coat and left the bag. *sigh* But I really love this coat:

(It's not actually faded and linty, I just lightened the photos so the detail comes out)

And here's what I'm wearing today:

dress: Plenty by Tracy Reese via Anthropologie (similar)
cardigan: LOFT
coat: Cole Haan (similar)
boots: Camper (similar)
bag: Marc Jacobs (similar)
scarf: Gap (similar)

Marianne: Fancy.

I'm not going to name names, but SOMEONE won a fancy schmancy award at work and decided to get a little dressed up for the company meeting where said awards were being announced.
Here's the thing...I love this skirt. It's high waisted with a bit of a bustle, handmade in PARIS for crying out loud, and I bought it on my honeymoon. But with this particular outfit, now that I see the pictures, I wish I had worn more of a pencil skirt, and shown a bit more leg. Or maybe a higher heel?
This is the face I make when my husband teases me.
I usually find this skirt flattering, but I really think it makes me look wide here. I am now on a mission for a shorter, more fitted black skirt.
Check the fantastic patterned tights and disco-fabulous shoes. They are a little ballroom dancing/I've Had The Time Of My Life, but I love them.
