Weekend Shopping Report: Knoxville Trip.

Hi hi hi! I am back from visiting Marianne in Knoxville and, no surprise, we did a little bit of shopping together. I also coveted some of her things and ended up making an online purchase while I was there which always seems to happen.

First, we made a short trip out of town to visit Greater Goods, a by-the-pound thrift store that had come highly recommended. Digging in bins of clothing is not everyone's idea of a good time but we were into it and found some great stuff! I found Marianne this cute leopard cardigan that I'm pretty sure is made out of 100% static and water bottles:

Here I am afterwards with my loot:

We also made a trip to Ulta so Marianne could stock up on a bunch of staples. I bought more of The Ordinary's Buffet and also, on her recommendation, the Real Techniques makeup sponge which is WAY cheaper than the Beauty Blender and also bigger and comes with a travel case. What? WHAT. I tried it this morning and it's great. (Also, now I feel like a sucker.)

We also hit up TJ Maxx because it's a long-standing tradition of ours. It was pretty picked over but we both ended up buying the same Tahari olive green linen t-shirt that I can't find it online anywhere but it's super great and we're both scared to wash it, because linen.

Finally, I made Marianne go to Madewell to try on skinny jeans and she bought this pair which looks AMAZING on her:

Never mind that what she needed was plain dark denim skinny jeans, the heart wants what it wants and Marianne's wanted distressed black skinny jeans.

We also spent a lot of time trying on stuff for each other and I marveled at her amazing closet and tried on a bunch of her stuff without asking. (Just kidding, I asked.) Marianne recently took advantage of the Sorel boot sale and bought some really nice, lightweight and warm boots to wear to her daughter's riding lessons, because muddy, cold riding rings are not sneaker-friendly. Her boots arrived right before I did and they're great:

They are the Sorel Explorer 1964. Super light, very warm and cute as hell. (They run half a size small, btw.) I tried on her boots because that's the kind of asshole I am and immediately decided I needed a pair for my upcoming trip to Scotland. (My Docs are great but they are HEAVY and not water-proof.) They'd sold out of most of the colors in my size but I found them on another site and ordered a pair in Quarry. Fingers crossed!

And then I drove all the way home and now it's Monday and I'm sad. Boo.

Knoxville Shopping: It Was Fun and Now I'm Sad.

Oh, y'all. I went to visit Marianne this past weekend and it was SO MUCH FUN and now I'm home and it's raining ice and it's going to SNOW tomorrow and I am VERY SAD.

😭😭😭😭😭😭

I mean, this pretty much sums up the weekend:

And this:

Of course we did some shopping because when do we ever not? We went to, um, three different TJ Maxx Stores and also Target AND Anthro and it was glorious. Wanna know what we bought? I'm going to tell you:

Marianne loves her Julian backpack but it's starting to get a bit worn so when she found this Aimee Kestenberg backpack for $39(!) in the clearance section she immediately claimed it:

Such a bargain considering it's still on the brand's site for full price! I liked it a lot but didn't want to be a copycat. (I can't find it on the TJ Maxx site but there were several in each store we went to.) I tried on a bunch of clothing and bought a couple of inexpensive short sleeved tops by Pleione. I can't find the exact one online but it was a cross between this one and this one. I got it in bright cobalt blue and in emerald green for $16.99 each. They're simple and flowy and have nice details. Perfect.

We also bought candles after sniffing pretty much all of them. It's weird how we both went from hating scented candles to being obsessed with them. I also bought a pair of Luna Norte earrings which, spoiler, I can't find online. THIS IS SO HELPFUL. Then we went to another TJ Maxx and I found this:

Yes! The same backpack in blush pink leather. You're probably thinking, "that really looks like Marianne's color" and you'd be right. I bought it and we traded because of course we did. This backpack is really nice quality and the perfect size for everyday. For $39 it is a STEAL. Go find one!

We moved on to Target because Marianne had these earrings on from the SUGARFIX by BaubleBar line:

I wanted to explore the other options because they are SO CUTE on her. I bought this pair:

I don't know if they work with my haircut though, so we'll see. I also contemplated this labradorite necklace but I didn't buy it because you can't get everything:

Marianne also got another pair of these earrings since she lost one from her last pair and loves them:

I think I mentioned we went to Anthropologie too but we didn't find a thing we couldn't live without. The end!

Knoxville Trip - Caftans, Cocktails and Shopping.

I'm on my way back as you're reading this and very likely sad about it. I've had a great time hanging out with Marianne and her family and was delighted to be able to celebrate a milestone birthday with her. The theme of her birthday celebration was Cocktails & Caftans and the ladies who attended VERY MUCH embraced this theme:

We all kind of decided that maybe we should just be wearing caftans every day from now on. So floaty and unencumbered! So glamorous! Here I am modeling my caftan, which is available on Amazon:

Marianne, who understands how to bring it to the camera (clearly, I do not) is wearing a beautiful actual real caftan from Emerson Fry:

I'm pretty sure hers, while organic and hand-printed, doesn't have glued-on rhinestones though, so just keep that in mind.

We did a little shopping, which you may have noticed if you follow the blog on IG. First we went to a very weird store called Bargain Hunt which seems to sell mostly Target overstock. Price tags are dated and every week the price drops, which is how we both scored this awesome little Target rattan bar cart for $36 each!

Unfortunately it’s long gone from Target, but I think this Threshold cart is really sleek and it’s on sale, plus an extra 10% off with code SPRING. Ooh, and this one at Macy's is a good deal too!

We then went to TJ Maxx where I took pictures of aggressively whimsical Kate Spade bags and tried on a bunch of stuff. I ended up buying a Junk Food tee that made me laugh ($7) and the CUTEST Chelsea and Theodore dress that convinced me I don’t need this dress at Everlane which I’d been considering. Seriously, $20 for the most flattering, simple t-shirt dress you’ve ever seen:

It also comes in the color of beige sadness but, really, just get the black one. (And while you’re at it maybe get this bag too because it’s hurting my soul and would look SO GOOD with that black dress. You’re welcome.)

Marianne tried on all the Vince but ended up buying none of it. She did, however, buy the best pair of blue suede (!) espadrilles that I can’t find for sale online anywhere:

The brand is Picón and you’ll just have to go dig around at your local TJ Maxx. (Let me know!) They are ridiculously cute and I think she paid $30ish for them! If you’re dying for something similar, this Botkier pair is the closest I could find. I also like this blue suede slip-on option at ASOS.

That's it for the shopping, I think. (Marianne, did I miss anything obvious?) Mostly we just talked and ate and ate and talked and there were many cocktails and tiny cans of rosé and a few episodes of TGBBS just for old times sake. I miss her already. 😭

M&A: How We Spent Our Weekend.

Whee! I drove to Knoxville last weekend so that Marianne and I could watch Pitch Perfect together and eat snacks. Also, shopping. (I mean, come on. There was shopping.) We had a really great time and also managed to take some outfit shots.

Marianne is wearing pretty much the exact same thing as her last outfit post (she's consistent) and I am apparently waiting to be inducted into the Red Hat Society. But, I think we both look pretty fucking cute, so whatever. Here you go:
