Marianne: L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Review

This is just a quickie for those of you out there who are always looking for a new mascara (like meeee!). I will admit that I initially picked up L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly mascara because I found the name to be ridiculous, like if Mariah Carey had her own makeup line (but of course there is this). But then I tried it and huh. It's pretty damn good.
Left: no mascara; Right: L'Oreal Voluminous Butterfly Mascara
Ah, nothing like close ups of your eyes to make you feel like a hot mess. Anyway, I will say, if you go look at the brush, it is what Adrien would classify as "advanced". The first time I used it I got mascara all over the left side of my face, because you have to turn the brush around to apply it properly. But once I got the hang of it I really, really liked the brush and formula. It does not clump, at all, and it's very buildable. The winged brush really does help you get every lash at the corners of your eyes. And honestly, for $8 (it's a buck cheaper at Target), what do you have to lose?

Adrien: Want Now. (Like, NOW.)

Hey! So Shopstyle asked me to create a collage of things I want now and I came up with a couple of outfits I wish I could be wearing right this second. That jacket? I want. And the earrings! Oh, sweet wanty things.

Adrien: Tippi Sweater Outfit.

So! I bought the J.Crew Tippi sweater I mentioned wanting in my fall wishlist and I have to say, it's kind of great. Keeps it's shape, no pilling, and I love the wide boatneck on it. I bought a couple of these Old Navy t-shirts to wear underneath because they work perfectly with the 3/4 sleeves. I've worn this sweater a ton, mostly with jeans, but I thought it's slightly prim cuteness would pair well with skirts so I tried that:

And yeah, I don't know. Something about the proportions seems off? Never fear! Because I am a TOTAL FASHION GENIUS I tried scrunching it up a little:

That looks better. Not quite the image I had in my head but at least I look more proportionate. (And before y'all are like, "PUT A BELT ON IT!" I just can't do the belt-over-sweater thing. It drives me insane.) The skirt I'm wearing is Ann Taylor from a few years back, but this one is good. They do nice animal print over there. Also, sometimes terrible animal print

My shoes are Chie Mihara (old, but this pair is a good similar) and my bag is the same old damn Marc by Marc Hillier Hobo that I will carry forever and ever because it's the best. The end.

Weekend Window Shopping: I'm Cold.

I basically spend the entire winter feeling like a shivery pound poodle. That's not an attractive image, is it? No, nobody wants that. Here are a few cute things I like that have the added benefit of staving off frostbite:

I am a fan of Smartwool socks and I think this Cuffed Beanie is cute enough:

I laughed at this UGG Australia Ambria Cloche but I'll bet you it's warm as hell:

And again, seriously, Stella McCartney?

I hate wearing winter gloves, but how great is this cashmere Coach Honeycomb pair?

And I basically want to marry these Kate Spade Pyramid Bow Leather Gloves. Ugh, so cool.

Have you discovered fleece-lined tights yet? I would love this Plush pair but I've also seen them popping up for a lot less at Target and Marshalls.

Scarves are one of the few things I like about winter. I love everything about this Missoni Zigzag wool scarf:

And it wouldn't be me without a discounted leopard scarf like this one from Neiman Marcus Last Call:

I need new boot socks for sure. This striped Hunter pair would look cute peeking out of my Fryes:

And who doesn't secretly dig argyle socks a little bit? This Eddie Bauer pair is kind of cute in a nerdy-argyle way:

And finally, I like this Roxy pair because they look like the sun and the sun is warm:

Happy weekend shopping!

It's Better Than Cats!

M: Should we talk about handsome men?

A: YARS.

M: OKAY. This is a bit outside of the norm but are you watching Sleepy Hollow?

A: I am not watching Sleepy Hollow. Should I be?

M: I think you should! It's great fun and the guy who plays Ichabod is fantastic. He's not bad to look at either.

A: Honey, he looks like Jesus. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

M: Well he's in period drag. Here:

M: Better?

A: Better! Nice! Hello pretty man!

M: He manages to play a guy who wakes up 200 years in the future and make him funny. Plus, cheekbones.

But OMG why did THIS come up in my search?!

A: I used to love that show. LOVE.

M: Stop.

A: It was the 80's. We didn't have much to pick from back then.

M: Okay, I've never seen it, but are we supposed to believe that Sarah Connor had the hots for Mr. Mistoffelees there?

A: They had an emotional bond! See, there was this secret Utopian society of outcasts and...never mind.

M: Yeah, I'm going to ask you to stop now.

A: Oh, I'm so sorry Future Ichabod Crane.

M: You'd love it! And now I'm reminded of another Ichabod Crane:

A: Oh, hello there.

M: Exactly.

Adrien: Superlatives.

So, with the change back to standard time comes a change in location since my usual place is now too full of eye-searing direct stupid sun. I shake my fist at the sky and marvel at how much my photos look like high school senior "casual" portraits. (Go ahead and Google that. I'll wait. It's worth it.)

Voted:  Most Likely To Stand in a Field

I'm pretty happy with all this, though. I'm wearing my J.Crew Downtown Field Jacket with a Calvin Klein scarf I recently found at Ross. (It's not online, but I love this one.)  My boots are Frye Melissa Back Zip in cognac and my jeans are 7 For All Mankind slim cigarette. (These will get their own review soon.)

The sweater I'm wearing is one I picked up at the J.Crew warehouse sale a few years ago.I think it's the Boyfriend Sweater?  It's my absolute favorite even though it pills like crazy. Soft, thick, pilled-to-hell cashmere is how I roll these days. I also want this one even though I know better.

And, oh! My necklace. It is c/o of a lovely reader Mima who has an Etsy shop called InfinEight. Here's a closeup:

I'm wearing the Vertex - Long Geometric Necklace and I love it. Right now Mima is offering free shipping in her shop with code LOOKSGOOD just for you guys! Thanks, Mima! Yay for handmade things.
