We Discuss: Need. What Is This Word?

M: When I say Loft is giving away clothes I mean Loft is GIVING AWAY CLOTHES

A: Aw crap. Did you buy anything?

M: I wasn’t going to and then I did because I found a hole in one of my favorite sweaters

A: Show meee

M: K hang on

M: This for $14

A: Oh, that’s so cute!

M: This for $16

A: That is very up my alley

M: This for $8

A: You found some good stuff

M: This for $11

A: Ugh, stop making me want stuff

M: This for $16 to try and replace my holey one

M: This for $16 because it will be good on zoom

A: That is VERY you

M: And this for $22 because I don’t have many things I can wear with leggings and cover my butt

M: 7 things for $100 but did I NEED THEM? No

A: What is “need”

M: Exactly

M: I’m bummed about this sweater though. I’m wearing it here. Just a cheap H&M v-neck but it fit perfectly

A: Aww, that sucks. And look how cute you are in that hotel

M: 😭😭😭

A: I remember hotels

A: Last night I had to talk myself down from an AllSaints leather jacket that wasn’t even really my size but they're having a great sale.

M: Hahahaha

M: Link obviously

A: I think it’s sold out, hang on

M: I bought that faux leather jacket (which is honestly great), wore several times in Seattle, and it’s hung in my closet ever since because of covid

A: Here, this one:

A: Please note, I HAVE a grey leather moto jacket

A: I also have a black one

A: But I was still like…maybe

M: I am saying nothing

A: It’s gone. The moment has passed.

M: 😂

A: Honestly, my favorite things that I already own right now are my new Quince sweaters and my reflective leopard leggings.

A: Not necessarily worn together (though I might, who knows)

M: Heheh

A: The Quarantimes have completely changed how I dress

M: Other than almost never wearing real shoes I feel like I wear the same old shit

A: Here's to a Happy New Year in which we can, like, wear real shoes again!

We Discuss: Our Draws.

M: Tell me about those Aerie draws—did you not like how high waisted they were? I have really got to find some new underwear

A: Yeah, too much rise for me. They were crazy.  I bought a bunch of different styles when they had a big sale.

M: I was looking at the Boybriefs.

A:  I tried a few different versions of the Boybriefs -some good, some too low.

M: Also intrigued by these:

A: I do have a pair of those. They're fine.

M: Just fine?

A: Comfy, not amaaaaazing because they slide down.

M: Hm

A: But they are comfortable

A: I have a couple pairs of the lace waistband bikini style and like those

M: Kk

M: Maybe I’ll just try a bunch

A: Yep, that's what I did - got a bunch of different styles

M: For 3.50 apiece and hopefully find my one true underwear

A: It was a while ago so I can't remember exactly what I got.

M: I hate that

M: Please let me find something that works because you would scold my underwear drawer like I scold your old makeup.

A: Haaaa. Underwear is hard!
…

M: The Aerie underwear, for the most part, is GREAT

A: Oh, good!!

M: I may place another order with my faves and just have a drawer of underwear I like, how novel.

A: I need to do another clean out because I have some SUPER sad shit in that drawer.

A: Which styles did you like?

M: I think we probably have different underwear styles but these were my #1:

M: I like all the boybriefs though but these the most

A: Those are cute! I’m not sure I tried that version.

M: But I also liked the real me ones that you weren’t sold on

A: I like those, I just find they don’t stay up on me. I got a medium and they’re REALLY stretchy.

A: Wait, I did get a pair of the lace boybrief and they’re pretty low.

M: Some boy briefs were a bit lower than others for sure.

A: The ones i like best are the bikini:

A: Though the ones I got were higher waisted.

M: High legs go up my butt because my hips are big.

A: I ordered mine last fall so everything has changed. I paid less than $4 a pair, though, and I’m pretty happy about what I got except for the high-rise stuff.

M: Yes I got one of those and they are kind of hilarious but it’s okay

A: The next time they have a crazy sale I’ll probably order up a bunch more. For the money they’re quite good

M: I agree

M: They are 5 for $25 right now but I got 10 for $35 and free shipping.

A: Dang!

M: But still, a good deal and I like them a lot more than the Target ones I’ve tried.

A: Ugh, I just filled an Aerie shopping cart full of underwear and fled.

M: Haha

A: I have TWO pairs of the style that doesn’t work for me in there. Like, what is wrong with my brain.

M: Adrien

M: No

M: Don’t do that

A: Oh, I’m not. I just added stuff I thought was cute and then was like, DUH.

A: I didn’t buy anything. Yet.

M: Haha

M: Update: I just went to Aerie and bought five more pairs of underwear and tossed almost all of my old ones

A: You're making me think hard about my underwear drawer.

M: It is refreshing to open it and not have to pick through pairs I don’t like as much.

A: I just threw away five pairs of sad old Hanky Panky underwear.

M: Yessss

A: I'd stopped wearing them but instead of tossing I just pushed them aside repeatedly.

M: It feels wrong to just throw them away! But so good.

M: When I packed I literally just grabbed 8 pairs of underwear without really looking. So freeing!

A: That is amazing. 🙌

We Discuss: Universal Thread at Target. Dammit.

M: Me: I only want investment pieces in my closet. I'm at an age where I should be building a forever wardrobe of well-made things that I love.

Also Me: HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW UNIVERSAL THREAD LINE AT TARGET I'LL TAKE ONE OF EVERYTHING.

M: But seriously, they are out-Madewelling Madewell. I already bought this dress AND jacket and I think I need the shoes too. Dammit, Target.

A: Ahhhhh. Cute! DAMMIT, TARGET. Also, I'm always looking for a denim jacket, report back!

M: I have bought and sold or returned or given away at least 6 denim jackets in my life but that one is CUTE.

A: Why so hard, denim jacket?

M: They are damn near impossible for me. Smaller shoulders, long arms, short waist, big ass. IMPOSSIBLE. But this one, I like it. I think. I'm going to try it on with a bunch of stuff when I get home.

A: I kindly request pictures when you do

M: They only had a medium and extra large in store though...the extra large was definitely too big but if I can find a large I'd like to compare it. But it's good. It's not stiff, not cropped, the arms are lean but not tight, it's not too stretchy, it's not too light wash.

A: Remember how I was all, "I'm going to do a no-buy until I see you in March."

M: That was cute. We were so cute!

A: Adorable.

A: Also adorable:

M: I am telling you, there is some GOOD STUFF there. The quality looked good too. TONS of interesting looking jeans. Dangerous.

A: Ugh, how cute are these:

A: And these are a straight up Madewell high rise skinny dupe:

A: AND THESE:

M: The jeans looked REALLY good. Definitely need further investigation.

A: I will be seeing you, Target.

M: YUP.

M: But seriously, what color do I want in the shoes??

A: I like the ivory for spring.

M: That's what I'm thinking. I should probably order those before they sell out. They are a straight up dupe of these by Free People:

A: Welp, those are great.

M: I used to have the open-toe version but sold them because they were too wide on me, so I wasn't about to spend $200 on them again. But I'll spend $30!

A: Target loves you and wants you to be happy.

A: PS. Even the jewelry and accessories look really good! And this looks like you:

A: I'll stop now. Dammit, Target.

We Discuss: Things We Did NOT Buy Last Week.

M: Week one! Things I wanted to buy, but didn't:

- Meow Meow Tweet deodorant
- New sheets (Target chambray to be exact)
- Those open-toed Lotta clogs
- These dumb Birks I can’t even wear yet:

- This stupid dress that I will totally buy if it ever stays in stock long enough:

A: Oh man, I love that dress! And Meow Meow Tweet...deodorant?

M: Everyone keeps telling me antiperspirant is going to kill me but I just can’t pull the trigger.

A: I just keep slathering it on. No curr.

A: Okay, me. I have not bought:

-A bunch of stupid things on Poshmark including a bag I ALREADY OWNED AND SOLD
-A pair of boots I, um, ordered and then immediately canceled:

- That doesn't count, right? Seriously, what is wrong with me
- That pointy Hourglass lipstick I still want and look at and put in carts and then flee
- One of those electric pedi foot file thingies

M: I did get two new shirts this week but it was for a shoot and I had to.

A: I mean, you didn’t buy anything so?

M: Full disclosure. Not stuff I would have bought for myself but I’m wearing the sweatshirt today:

A: Cute!

M: I know we are NOT shopping but this would be pretty on you:

A: LE SIGH

M: 🙈

A: It’s on sale and everything

M: I know

M: I shouldn’t have shown you

M: I am bad

M: But!

A: Mean lady

M: It’s short sleeved. It will be there in February.

A: Hmph

We Discuss: Party Looks and IRL Shopping.

M: I like this:

M: It makes me want velvet tuxedo pants and a Christmas party.

A: Staaaaars! I love it.

A: I want one really pretty blouse I can wear with my coated black jeans and boots and maybe my tuxedo jacket and that will be my holiday party outfit. Only, I cannot find a blouse. Stores are dumb.

M: Try the JCrew one! It sounds perfect for that.

A: You won’t be mad if I order it?

M: Nah. If that doesn’t work I like a lace top for the holidays. Like this:

A: Oh, pretty!

M: I've had good luck with lace tops there in the past.

A: It was such a crowded nightmare in the Loft store last weekend that I don't feel like I actually saw anything.

M: Yeah we have entered into the time when I Do Not Go To Stores.

A: I thought I was still within the safe zone, but nope. I got all snow-blind and panicky.

M: NOPE. And it’s always hot and there’s NO AIR.

A: It was SO hot. The sale racks were JAM PACKED and you couldn't actually see what you were browsing. I finally hit the ground and stomach-crawled out of there.

A: Ooh, check out this one from Anthro:

M: That’s pretty. I might like that one even more (for me)

A: It’s more dollars, but super pretty.

M: I really do have a couple of holiday parties to go to and I LOVE the idea of this over simple black but I feel like we are supposed to hate Zara?

A: Wait, why do we hate Zara*?

M: I can’t remember.

M: And I don’t feel like googling because I’m watching Japanese game shows.

A: That is quality television.

M: I also love this:

M: I hope your turkey is dry as shit, Susan

A: *whispers* Pocahontas was kidnapped...

*This is why.

We Discuss Everlane Stockholm Syndrome.

A: Everlane's new cotton sweaters look like something from Old Navy that I accidentally put in the dryer.

M: Cotton sweaters are kind of bullshit. Those cotton sweaters are extra bullshit.

A: Right? They make me sad.

M: But kudos to Everlane for convincing people that already faded and shrunk sweaters are something they want.

A: Boxy, faded and shrunk is the new chic.

M: I mean, bravo. That said I really am going to have to try the wide leg crops so I can know that they are awful for sure. What is my problem.

A: I want to believe. Do it for science.

M: I 100% promise you they will be godawful on me but apparently I can't rest until I see for myself.

A: Now I want them too. I'm so suggestible.

M: Even better--I kind of want the ochre/baby poop color.

A: Marianne.

M: You don't know mah life.

M: But seriously, color aside, reading the reviews and seeing so many people that wear my size loving them just makes me want them more. All the pictures only show size twos so I was suspect.

A: Hey, I have Everlane Stockholm Syndrome because I still want these boots even though I know better:

M: I am a Wearer of Weird Shoes and those bum me out.

A: Ugh, thank you. I don't know why I can't quit them.

M: They would be a big departure for you! Maybe we both need to try and review. This is how a no buy works right?

A: Oh. Huh. Yeah, we're doing that right?

M: Riiiiight.

A: I mean, we talked about it.

M: Talking counts, right? Also effff yoouuuuuu:

Nice pants but too big

I like these pants but I wish they had a smaller size. The 00 is a 26' waist. Usually 00 is a 24' waist. Also, I'd prefer them without the stretch, but maybe that's just me.

A: FAKE NEWS.

M: Like, I am all for body positivity and whatever but WAH MY 00 PANTS ARE TOO BIG just stfu.

A: WON'T SOMEONE THINK OF THE SUPER DUPER TINY LADIES?

A: And because I have the attention span of a gnat, I've already moved on to wanting these:

M: No judgement.

A: I love both pairs of Madewell boots that I own. I rarely love anything Everlane sends me except for the v-neck tees. I am trying to learn from mistakes, here.

M: Ah those are pretty. I never consider olive shoes because I wear olive jackets so much and that seems too matchy? I'm complicated.

A: That's a good point, but wouldn't stop me.  I also want a leather jacket but le sigh.

M: All this talking about fall is making me sad.

A: It's inevitable. We should just eat our cilantro corn salad and try not to cry.

M: I'm just not ready.

A: Summer forever.

M: I'm 30 pages into the Everlane Pants reviews and ready to buy two pairs in two different sizes and colors.

A: Which two colors?

M: The black and the ochre shut up.

A: The ochre is growing on me.

M: Okay, two pair of pants, two colors, two sizes, ordered for science.

A: Yay for science! PLEASE REPORTS BACK.

We Discuss Summer Uniform Goals And Mango.

A: We just got this email:

If one of your models has a big head, we have them covered. If you need to model baseball caps, bucket hats, etc let me know and we can send some.
Have a good day!
Thank you,
Mike

M: Oh my god. I love this so much.

A: BIG HEADED MODEL.

M: Mike, you sure know how to talk to a girl.

A: He has them covered!

M: Damn this entire post to hell UGH.

A: DAMMIT. That is so good. (Wait. Not these shorts, tho.)

M: Oh I would 100% wear those if I had the upper legs for them. 100%.

A: I am being very Old Lady about them because I am still working up to step hems.

A: I do love those last two sets A LOT.

M: I just want a life with t-shirts and cutoffs and cute shoes and fun earrings ALL OF THE TIMES.

A: It’s the dream, right? This is the best summer uniform.

A: Related: I really need to work on my Fun Earring wardrobe.

M: ME TOO. I want those straw ones for starters.

A: JCREW POM POMS, PLS.

M: I know, those are my next favorite.

A: Hey, what color sunglasses did you pick for the Zoe Box?

M: I got tortoise but I'm conflicted still.

M: Also, I have a lotta questions about this LEWK:

A: Is that The Shirt with some kind of terrible overall jumper thing? I am NOT ON BOARD.

A: Also, I can't say LEWK.

M: It's just Look but with attitude.

A: Oh, I know. I just cannot.

M: It's okay, I'll say it for you. LEWK.

A: Stoooooppppp.

A: And WAIT. Mango wants me to wear two dresses? The Shirt in dress form with another ugly dress over it?

M: Right? it made me mad.

A: Does Mango hate women?

M: Oh Mango is a treasure trove of WTF. I still want those earrings tho.

A: The earrings are great but the rest of that site is a ruffletastrophe and WTF times A MILLION:

M: AhahahahaHAAAAA.

A: I need a nap.

We Discuss Boobs and Birkenstocks.

A: They're heeeerrre

M: 😍

M: Want

M: I am actually thinking about painting the buckles of my blue ones gold now.

A: I LOVE THEM SO HARD. Soft footbed is rull nice.

M: Yesss

A: I maybe could’ve gone with narrow, but I think they fit the way they're supposed to.

M: They look like they fit.

M: Mine are a touch wide too but it works.

A: They fit, it's just a lot ‘o sandal.

M: Aggressive German comfort.

A: Exactly!

M: 🇩🇪

A: Thank you, Germany.

A: Also, everything I ordered from Old Navy is total garbage and it’s all getting returned.

M: Yeah a friend of mine just got a bunch of Old Navy stuff and said not one thing was good.

A: Just thin and flimsy and ill-fitting.  I don't know why I'm even remotely surprised.

M: It's an off year for them. And weirdly an on year for Gap.

A: I'm wearing my blue Gap blouse today. Pretty sure everyone can see my boobs.

M: Eh, it's Friday. Have some boobs.

A: They ain't bad, really.

M: Boobs!

A: HERE THEY ARE! AND TASSELS.

M: I wish Madewell did birthday discounts.

A: Madewell does do a birthday thing. Are you an Insider? They sent me a $25 GC.

M: Aha I AM an insider! I want that! My birthday is in 10 days, give it up Madewell.

A: Whatchoo want from Madewell?

M: I want a nice straw hat. All of mine are made of paper?

M: I also need new denim shorts because mine are disintegrating:

M: And well this, because you know:

A: Those shorts! So perfect. And the dress. So striped.

M: My favorite Pilcro shorts are seriously going to dissolve or something. It's precarious. Those look distressed but a little more sturdy.

A: I wore my favorite Old Navy shorts over the weekend and they are disintegrating rapidly. They're also shorter than I remember them being last summer.

M: Dammit, clothes.

A: I know. Always clothes.

M: Do I need that striped Madewell dress? Probably not right? It's probably going to be an unflattering sack.

M: They sent me my $25 off.

A: I just looked at all the pics - def a sack.

M: Shorts and hat ordered!

A: I'm super invested in the Madewell shorts.

M: I hope they are good.

A: I feel like a SWF jerk wanting to buy everything you like but I neeeeeed cutoff shorts.

M: Haha it's okay!

A: At least we don't live in the same town, I guess.

M: It's really fine.

A: Kate and I often end up dressed alike. She just bought black Gizehs at my urging.

M: I totally want your Arizonas.

A: SO OBSESSED with them. It's contrary and makes no sense.

M: I’m a hoarder who shops too much.

A: Heeee, dang.

M: I love your girls and want some!

A: They are the best. Still breaking them in.

M: Girls = Birks

A: You can't have my boobs.

M: Boobs!

We Discuss A Signature Look.

M: So, this.

A: Topshop is punking us.

M: Right? Right.

A: I mean, at this point they're just sitting around getting high and making shit up.

M: Honestly, it sounds pretty fun. "Let's sew a SHEER SKIRT INTO THE WAIST! KNEE WINDOWS! CHIMPS AND DIMP!"

A: O CRAMP YOO GUYS. WE GOTTA DO NEW DESIGNS!

M: Quick, somebody make a Drunk Topshop tumblr.

A: It exists. It's called the Topshop tumblr.

M: Uh oh, don't check Kim France's phone case post.

A: Too late. The all-caps comment is mine.

M: Haha I didn't get to the bottom yet.

A: That case is $120!

M: I tried to stop you.

A: Where were you first thing this morning?

M: sooooorrrrry

A: Anyway, I knew several goth girls at art school that totally would've worn those jeans. Being a modern vampire was very in back in the 90s.

M: Oh sure. But they would just pull a tattered petticoat over their faded black jeans.

M: It would be AUTHENTIC modern vampire.

A: Yeah, true. The blue mom jeans are throwing me off.

A: I, um, worked in a vintage clothing shop in college and don't even want to tell you some of the things I marched around wearing.

M: Very Pretty In Pink I imagine.

A: Not quite that bad. Or maybe worse? Is Grunge Flapper a thing?

M: Well, it is now.

A: I did it best.

Monday, April 24, 2017

We Discuss Summer Shopping and Stupid Pockets.

M: thanks to you I want BOTH of these:

A: Sorry/not sorry! At least I'm making you want inexpensive things?

M: Oh definitely. It's funny, I couldn't think of anything I wanted to buy this weekend and now I have 6 tabs open with stuff I want.

A: Oh, do tell! I want new Birkenstocks and maybe this Gap blouse:

A: But otherwise i"m all, 💁

M: Mostly I blame I Want To Be Her for these. Well and you, for that Target dress that I should just order right now. So:

M: EXTREME PARTY MASCARA:

M: Someone said this mascara was so intense they only wear it at night which means it's perfect grocery store mascara for me:

A: Ooh, this is a great list! Did the Gap dress version of that blouse work out?

M: Yes, but it's a little big and I need to take it to get the pockets taken out. I wore it yesterday anyway.

A: Fucking pockets. Why.

M: POCKETS. Here's the thing: the blousey, belted waist means if you actually put things IN the pockets they weight down and make everything terrible. Plus they stick out and add bulk. HATECHU POCKETS.

A: HATE SO MUCH. Useless and add visual bulk to my hips. WHY.

A: So, back to these mascaras you just bought. I want extreme party lashes but I'm not sure my face does that. And I'm intrigued by this Honest Beauty stuff with the primer.

M: I haven't bought them yet!

A: Well, what are you waiting for.

M: I'm trying to resist bleeding money.

A: I'm trying to live vicariously through your mascara purchases. How can you be so selfish?

M: I ordered it! And that dress. Have you looked at the other Knox Rose stuff at Target? Not all of it is my style but there are some cute flowy summery tops.

A: Yay! I stopped buying Target clothes a few years ago but now I'm feeling like I need to check this stuff out. Really cute. I just ordered a couple of random things from Old Navy because it was so cheap it felt un-American not to.

M: Haha. Target has been getting better I think.

A: I don't really understand why I'm so into all this boho embroidered crap but I really, really am.

M: Because nothing says summer like some boho hippie crap and also they are better outfit-makers than t-shirts! Welcome to my world. It's floaty here.

A: Yes! Floaty cute tops! They make cut-offs and Birkenstocks look casual and breezy rather than schlubby and half-dressed. Or something.

A: Oops, I just panic-ordered my Birkenstocks. It was the last pair in my size with the gold buckles that I could find.

M: A solid choice.

A:
       image:: http://blog.footwearetc.com

M: I love them! I love summer!

M: YAY SUMMER! Summer shopping is so much fun.

Monday, April 17, 2017

We Discuss Important Pants Journalism.

M: This is important journalism.

A: OH MY GOD YES.

M: I have tried. I TRIED. I LOVE FASHION AND I LIKE TRYING NEW THINGS. And I am TALL with LONG LEGS and this style is a travesty.

A: You are SO MUCH MORE TRY-Y THAN ME. I just look at that and go nope.

A: SEE ALSO: cold shoulder tops.

M: I'll try them! Just don't make me wear the bad pants!

A: I would never make you wear the bad pants! I would really love it if bootcut jeans came back.

M: Aren't they?

A: Are they?

M: I think they've been coming back for a while. I wear my Pilcro Stet Slim Bootcut jeans all the time.

A: Oh yay! Thank God I don't write a style blog or anything.

A: PS. NOPE.

M: Okay those are a definite no, but at the same time when I was in New York last I picked these up and put them back down at least 17 times and I haven't stopped thinking about them. I don't even know.

A: OH MY GOD I LOVE THOSE.

M: AREN'T THEY PRETTY.

A: I SERIOUSLY LOVE THEM. FEATHERRRZZZ.

M: I fear Zara will not be cut for me, but they are are pretty to look at.

A: I currently hate all my clothes and apparently all the clothes in the stores, so I feel you.

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

We Discuss Birkenstocks. A Lot.

M: I just found myself pining for these:

M: So, duh, I went ahead and ordered those leather Gap espadrilles. Stay tuned.

A: Yay! I really like that Gap pair - let me know if they're good. I am currently pining for the coppery metallic Birkenstocks because I made the mistake of trying them on. I just don't know if they're versatile enough.

M: Hmmm. They are fun but I like my Birks a little less attention-grabbing.

A: Yeah, I suspect they are the kind of trendy I'd grow tired of.

M: Right. Like, ugh stop being so SHINY and then I would wear my navy blue waxed leather Arizonas which are all I really want.

A: I really want a pair of Arizonas so badly. I love my Gizehs but sometimes I don't want crap in between my toes. Like, ugh. Stop tounching my toes.

M: YES THE TOUNCHING. My Gizehs aren't nearly as comfortable. I'm really helping your cause aren't I?

A: NO YOU ARE NOT.

M: SORRRRRRY.

A: Just for the sake of research, do you have leather or birko-flor Arizonas? There are 800 options, many of them hideous.

M: I have the leather, my Gizehs are birko-flor. I think the leather will ultimately hold up better plus you can't fake the oiled leather look. they took longer to break in but man, I love them.

A: Yeah, my Gizehs are birko-flor too but I think I want a leather pair. I just can't decide which color.

A: Maybe not these:

M: Ooh. Shiny. These are mine:

A: No, I'm NOT getting the shiny orange snakeskin.

M: It would really open up a whole new avenue for you.

A: Holy shit:

M: What the actual fuck.

A: "Persian gold textile."

A: There is also an orange pair:

A: THEY ARE SOLD OUT.

M: They look like Ramen. Or Cheetos.

A: They look like nasty 1970s rec room carpet.

M: Shiver.

A: I really like yours quite a lot. I also like this pair with the gold buckles:

M: I like the black ones too! I sometimes think I want a white pair but I talk myself out of it pretty quickly.

A: I know white is really in right now but they just always look like nurse shoes to me. If anyone could pull them off, though, it would be you.

A: Now I'm thinking about copper again. Or gold. Or silver. Ugh. Why.

M: I like the idea of the shiny ones but when I see them in person I don't love them.

A: My practical side will win out. If I'm going to shell out for leather, I want to be able to wear them forever.

M: For you I think the black. I really like them.

A: Black leather, gold buckles. They definitely appeal.

M: Yassssss
