Outfit of the Day: Everlane The Cashmere V-Neck.

As a follow-up to this entry, I did indeed buy the Everlane cashmere sweater in loden! And it arrived and I was like, oh...it looks pretty grey and very similar to my charcoal sweater:

Eep. I took this at night, so just bad lighting? I wasn't sure so I decided to do a blog outfit and see:

Okay! It actually looks pretty green in the photos. Also, it's lovely - slouchy and soft and has the perfect not-too-deep v-neck. I am a big fan of Everlane cashmere in general and this sweater did not disappoint. I bought this in a size medium, just for reference. 

So good and slouchy! Look at me doing the blogger half-tuck. I am wearing my Very Favorite Madewell jeans which never disappoint me. If my black pair ever ships I fully intend on loving those just as much. Also, holy shit, Madewell has leather jeans (!!) and I might cry right this second. STOP IT, MADEWELL.

*Deep breathing*  Back to the sweater. It falls just right, doesn't it? Now I want another one in black and maybe also this cashmere shrunken sweatshirt even though I know better. (But with high-waisted jeans? Maybe?) I also love the cashmere crew sweater in indigo. So many sweaters, so few dollars. 

Here I am holding my charcoal grey Everlane cashmere sweater. THEY ARE TOTALLY TOTALLY DIFFERENT, RIGHT? That's what I thought. Now, details: 

Ooh! I'm wearing a pair of really great earrings I bought at a great locally-owned gift shop in Sacramento. They're made by Amano Studio and I have been wearing them a lot. Not heavy, very jingly and pretty. I'm also wearing my little Argento Vivo labradorite pendant which is sold out but this one is really pretty. Oh! And the lipstick I'm wearing is new! It's by MAC and I can't remember the color because I'm the worst. I'll review it next week. 

Still carrying my Miu Miu bag a lot! Mine is long gone but this Vince Camuto bag has a similar feel and this black leather Frye bag also seems like a sure thing. Also still digging my Vince Newlyn sneakers though lately it's been too hot to wear them. (I swear I'm not complaining! It's nice to have something to look forward to when the weather turns cold and gross.)

Blog Science: I Review Everlane's Linen Scoop-Neck Tee.

Marianne and I were both super curious about the Everlane Linen Scoop-Neck Tee especially since we both really like their basic cotton v-neck. I went ahead and ordered one for blog science and it arrived quickly. At first glance, I really liked it: 

I ordered a medium and it fit perfectly with a loose, but not oversized, drape. I was delighted at it's lack of boxiness! The material is a super lightweight slub and felt really nice. The fit is ideal: 

But then I looked in the mirror and, y'all. This shirt is completely transparent. Now, I like a sheer-ish slub tee but this one is REALLY sheer: 

I'm wearing a nude bra, of course, and was like, oh, cool cool maybe it's fine and then I saw this: 

That is the little gold coin decoration on my Natori bra shining through. You guys. If I can see my bra decoration through the shirt? IT IS TOO SHEER. I mean, I guess I could wear a cami under it but who wants to wear two shirts in the summer? Not me. It totally negates the purpose of the summer-weight linen. Ugh, Everlane. Why? I will say, there are lots and lots of glowing reviews for this tee on their website so maybe I'm just the only one who doesn't dig this level of sheer. Anyway, I guess will be returning it because nope. 

We Discuss: Our Underwear. Yes, Again.

Adrien: Those Weird Boots aka Everlane Street Ankle Boot Review.

Well, Marianne said it: Sometimes you just have to try the weird thing. I had some credits at Everlane* and decided to finally use them towards the weird thing I'd had my eye on forever - the Everlane Street Ankle Boots. Here they are: 

So, I should say upfront that I fully expected to return these boots. They're Advanced. Definitely a type of street style that I admire but don't actually have. I mean, I love them in theory but wasn't sure I could pull them off. Then they arrived and I was like, Yep. Not returning. I love them. 

The boots are amazing but they're also bonafide man repellers. They are not dainty or feminine but they ARE sleek as all fuck. I'm wearing them with my Everlane heavyweight tee which is also not dainty but it holds it's shape and is great to wear over tight skinny jeans. When I bought this tee a few years ago I wasn't sure about it but since then it's become a much-loved staple. Everlane also has the similar Breton Cotton Tee which has fun zipper detail and a more traditional neckline. 

My jeans are slightly distressed black skinnies from Banana Republic and are pretty similar to this pair (which are actually way nicer and now I want them. Oops.) I'm also a big fan of Fidelity denim and this pair also tempts me though I'll also admit that these Old Navy Rockstars ain't half bad. Now, a few details and then we'll get back to the boots:

Pointy pendant from BR but I recently found this more delicate version on super-sale! This Gorjana version is also super pretty. I'm also wearing a Lisa Freede bracelet which is sort of similar to this Kenneth Cole NY cuff (or if you want to get fancy, this one is nearly identical.) Okay! back to the boots: 

They are very sleek and lightweight but they do fit pretty narrow. I went with my normal size and, while I could probably squeeze my feet into a half size down (which they recommend), I think they'd have been too tight in the toe box. I am struggling a bit with sock options (my normal Bombas options don't really work with these) because I can't bear to go sockless like Marianne. Can't do it. 

The toe is quite pointy and they definitely will not make your feet look smaller but I just don't care. I think they're so sharp with the shiny black leather and white sole! It remains to be seen if they're truly comfortable. I've only worn them out once and so far they're fine.

Review: Everlane High-Rise Skinny Denim.

I bought a pair of the new Everlane denim jeans and here's my review. Just a reminder that I paid for these myself and my review is all my own opinion.

I ordered the High-Rise Skinny and they are really quite nice!  They look and feel high-end and the Japanese denim is thick and not very stretchy. I loved the super dark wash a lot. My normal jeans size is 28, though sometimes I am more comfortable in a 29. I ordered these in a 29 because they aren't super stretchy and sometimes Everlane runs small.  I chose the high waisted style in the regular length. Here they are with flats:

They are not kidding about the high rise! I'm a bit short waisted and these were HIGH. I like a high rise but the denim was so stiff that it felt a little like I was wearing a denim corset:

They also started sliding down a bit which is what made me realize they're probably too big and I should've gone with my usual size. Oops. Here's a side view wearing flats so you can see the actual length:

The length was good for me but would be pretty short for anyone above 5'6". (I'm assuming this first rollout is a test and hopefully they'll add more sizes and lengths?) Here's the back view so you can see the pockets: 

 

Verdict:  They are really good quality jeans and I don't think they look bad but they weren't a great fit on me. I considered exchanging for a size 28 but the high rise on the 29 was already making me uncomfortable so I didn't think sizing down was going to fix that. I probably would'be been happier in the mid-rise version. Overall I wasn't so enamoured with them that I wanted to keep ordering and re-ordering to find the right fit, so I just sent them back. 

Review: Everlane Stretch Ponte Crop Pant.

I got some pants from Everlane! I totally did. I haven't gotten the jeans yet - those are supposed to arrive today and I fully expect them to disappoint me. Heh.

Today I'm going to review the Everlane Stretch Ponte Crop Pant which is completely Marianne's fault. She got the regular version and (months after buying them) actually wore them and discovered that they're really good. Of course I ordered a pair and I chose the crop version because I thought they might work better with boots. I'm not sure if this was the right move, but maybe y'all can help:

I ordered my usual size 6 and they fit fine. These are tight-fitting but the material is good and thick - they're definitely pants, not leggings. Oh! And they have a center seam/crease that's impossible to see in the photos and doesn't seem to show up in Everlane's product photos either. I was surprised by it but eventually decided it made the pants look more tailored. 

Pretty much immediately I wished I'd just ordered the regular length because the crop hit higher than I want them to and they bunch up a little on my calves (but they do that on the model too? Just the nature of tight pants I guess.) On the whole, though, I REALLY like them. They're crazy comfortable and I love the big side zipper and plain waistband. The more I wore them around the house, the more comfortable they felt. Detail shots: 

I will not be tucking anything into these but I appreciate the lack of buttons and slash pockets. Instead it's just the perfect smooth foundation for my blousy tops to float over. I also love the retro-ish detail of the big side zipper: 

This is what they look like with my favorite Madewell boots (mine are from last year) and I kinda wish they were slightly longer. Should I buy the regular length or just keep these?

My striped shirt is by Grana (this link gets you 10% off your first order) and I love it so much I have it in two colors! It looks like they still have it in stock in a few colors. I am pretty crazy for a striped shirt and it's everything I can do to not order this one from Everlane or this one from AllSaints. But oh my God can we just stop with this nonsense? PS. This breton dress! So good.

My necklace is from Banana Republic and, while they don't have anything similar in a pendant I do really love this tiered necklace made from the same kind of chain.

I carry my MBMJ Too Hot To Handle Hobo a lot but it's a real workhorse for me. There are still several colors available at Nordstrom Rack so get one while you can. My shoes are a very old pair of Chie Mihara but they still make a really cute red mary jane. I also really love this pair but oh, the price. Too many dollars, Chie. 

BLOG SCIENCE UPDATE: Everlane Denim is Live!

I don't know why I'm acting like the Everlane denim launch is in some way important but that didn't stop me from immediately buying a pair with my own money for blog science. I got these:

High rise! Plain plain plain dark denim! Various sized models! Sort of! We shall see! They're already backordered! Because what?

M: At this point I am on my second pair (they aren't kidding about sizing up, I am a small 7.5 and the 39's *just* fit), and I have to ship them back to SWEDEN to return so I'm trying. I love them I just know they are going to be a bitch.

M: I am certain they will be if I can get there. So far so good (today is my first day wearing them out of the house!).

M: The Everlane wide leg crop pants came! I don't hate them. As predicted, I don't think I know what tops to wear with them. They are Advanced but very comfortable. They would be 100% more flattering with the pockets sewn shut but I also liked putting my hands in there. Hmmm. I do like that they are a totally new silhouette for me.
