Two Good Sales (and what I bought.)

I am absolutely not shopping! I am not buying things, nope no way. And then came the Really Good Sales:

First: BlueMercury is having an anniversary event - 20% off a purchase of $150 for BlueRewards members. This is the promotion for you if you're a fan of SkinCeuticals, Augustinus Bader, R+Co, diptyque and LAFCO. Now is the time to stock up on that expensive shit that you feel guilty buying but don't want to live without. I mean, listen. I really like a Target candle but I freaking LOVE a Lafco candle. I gave into this promotion because they had my favorite fall/winter candle in stock:

It's warm, spicy but not sharp at all. It's just winter-y and comforting without being outright seasonal. I just love it. I'm curious about the Spiced Pomander candle as well, but I think I'll wait until closer to the holidays for that one. I also bought my usual SkinCeuticals Phyto serum and an R+Co travel sized tube of the blow-out balm, which I've been wanting to try.

Just a note: the discount code doesn't work on the Dyson Airwrap but it DOES work on the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer which I have and love and use every single day. (I, um, traded my Airwrap for the Supersonic hairdryer because I'm far too lazy to bother curling my hair. It was a solid decision.)

Next up, Madewell! They're offering 25% off everything for Insiders (this is the time to buy a leather jacket, just FYI. Usually they're excluded.) I'd just been texting with Marianne about how I don't feel like Madewell's denim this fall is very interesting or tempting but half an hour later I was ordering this pair of Perfect Vintage jeans

While they aren't the bootcut or barrel jeans of my fall vision, they are: mid-rise, a dark wash, and straight leg. I mean, these are the jeans I will be wearing every single day if they work for me. We shall see! I was also quite tempted by these boots and this shirt-jacket and oh my god this leather jacket, but I resisted. For now. We'll see.

Monday Mood: PNW Weekend Shopping Report.

Somehow it's already Monday and I don't understand. I hope you all had a good weekend and did something fun. It was mostly a rainy, blustery weekend here so instead of riding my bike, we did some shopping. Here's what I got:

Danner Women's Jack III Boots
Danner is a Portland, OR based boot company known for amazing hiking boots but they also make lifestyle boots. Last weekend my boyfriend and I went to the Danner store so he could get some new boots and you can probably guess what happened. I was just along for the ride until I saw the Jack III boots (Amazon link - limited sizing here) and made the mistake of trying them on. Y'all. Y'ALL. These are some beautiful boots and once I put them on my feet I was sunk. I mean:

Lumberjack chic, amirite? And now they are mine! My boyfriend saw how much I loved them and bought them for me. True love. I will post an outfit this week!

Mountain Hardwear Kor Cirrus Hybrid
I still do not feel fully prepared for the PNW fall weather so yesterday took a trip to the Columbia outlet. I bought a Columbia fleece (very cozy but pretty basic) and also found this Mountain Hardwear hybrid hoodie on the clearance rack. It's SO GOOD -  basically a very lightweight jacket that wears like a hoodie. It weighs nothing but is somehow warm, has an excellent hood, deep zip pockets, thin enough to wear as an extra layer under a coat, and best of all, packs down into one of the pockets so it's great for travel. I wore it yesterday on a chilly, windy, long walk and was completely comfortable. Highly recommend. It's not fashion but it is just a great layer for in-between weather. (I bought a medium - it's generously sized, so keep that in mind.)

Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Mushroom
I've written about my love for the UD 24/7 eyeliner before and I was convinced that my favorite color had been discontinued. Well, it turns out it's just that Sephora doesn't seem to carry it anymore. It's still on the UD website and also on the Target website! I just ordered a new one so I can throw away the sad nub of my old one. This is a really unusual color - it's a silvery taupe that's not too dark and it looks amazing on brown eyes. Yay!

And, a future purchase...

Bombas  Performance Running Calf Sock
I love the Performance Ankle sock so much that I get mad when both pairs I own are in the wash. They are the best - they don't slide around or bunch up ever and they are super comfortable. Looking ahead to colder weather, I thought the calf height version might be perfect for outdoor activities but also, they'd be ideal to wear with boots! I just want a boot sock that fits well, has no toe seam and stays put. I have a few pairs waiting in my shopping cart, so I'll report back after I get them. If you've never tried Bombas, now is the time! Use my link to get 25% off your first order! (Full disclosure: I also get a credit.)

That's it for my weekend purchases - now please tell me if you bought anything good!

Monday Mood: Weekend Shopping Report.

I haven't been out to try things on in actual stores in a while, so over the weekend I ventured out to see what I could find. Madewell was mobbed so I didn't stay long enough to try things on. Anthro was basically empty but nothing really caught my eye. I did buy my favorite seasonal candle, though. My final stop was the danger zone: EVEREVE. I tried on a bunch of things including a couple of pairs of jeans:

The jeans on the left are Agolde Riley (I think?) and they were not for me - too rigid and too high rise. I forgot to take a photo of me wearing them because I'm the worst blogger. The jeans on the right, which I'm wearing in all the photos, are Kut From The Kloth High Rise Reese Ankle Straight and I really liked them:

They do run a whole size big, though. I'm wearing my usual size and they were definitely too big on me and they didn't have the next size down in-store. I might order a pair because they were comfy and had a nice mid-rise. The Reese cut comes in a bunch of colors and fabrics and they're under $100, which is refreshing. Now, on to the rest:

This is the Chaser hoodie I posted not long ago and I LOVED IT. I didn't buy it because I don't really need another striped top but it's soft and cozy and very, very cute on. I'm going to keep an eye on this one.

I loved the snakey print of this Allison Joy Harper blouse but it was very blouse-y with a lot of sleeve. Like, a LOT of sleeve. Very cute and I should've tucked it in because it requires tucking, but it wasn't really for me.

I immediately grabbed this John And Jenn Wes Camo Pullover because it looks like me, you know? I really liked it in theory but it was oversized and kind of boxy, so I couldn't decide if it was good on me. I have narrow shoulders so sometimes this cut just doesn't work. I probably should've tried a size down but it might not have mattered.

See? Such a good print. Camopard! Leocamo? I don't know. I dig it.

This one by Roan + Ryan I shouldn't even show you because for some reason it's not on the website. I'm guessing it's out of stock. I'm hoping they'll restock because it was SO pretty. I love the two prints but it also had major sleeves which I wasn't sure about. (This one was being held for someone but they let me try it on.)

This top isn't in the photo above but it was a nice surprise - it's the Cleon Sweat by Varley, an athleisure brand I'd never tried before. This is technically a sweatshirt but it's got size zippers and a really sophisticated cut that doesn't feel sweatshirt-casual. I also never usually try on white/cream so it was a bit of a surprise that it looked nice on me:

My crappy pics aren't really doing this top justice but I can't stop thinking about it! It's unlike anything I own, so I might end up buying it. It comes in some interesting colors too and also comes in a tunic-length version, which looked cozy.

That's it for me! Did you find anything great this weekend?

Monday Mood: Evereve Shopping Report.

Because I'm an excellent host and enabler, I dragged my friend Kate to Evereve because I will basically use any excuse to get myself in that danger zone of a store. I managed to not buy anything but I do have a pretty long wishlist for fall and most of it is pretty blouses because they have SO MANY. Here's the list:

I loved this top so much (I mean, leopard print) but the colorway wasn't great on me.

I didn't dare try this on because it's basically perfect and I DO NOT NEED IT.

I did try this on and it's so cute! Even better IRL and great with jeans.

Specifically these jeans which were so flattering. I resisted this time but we'll see.

Okay, this cardigan is so cool and the pics aren't doing it justice at all. Kate bought it!

I love a paperclip chain necklace and this one is an easy way to layer without tangles.

I probably would've bought this but they didn't have my size in-store which is FINE.

I did try this on and it was really cute but not...quite my style.

I love my black Think Royln bag but I REALLY love this bronze/gold version.

This tank didn't look very interesting until Kate put it on. It's got a beautiful swing shape!

Okay, I already own this but I wanted to let you know it's on sale now. Soft and cute. Get it!

How many tiger tees are too many? Asking for me.

BUY THIS (So We Don't Have To): Sweater Weather.

Marianne and I both have decided that this year we're going to stop being bummed out about autumn and instead we're going to embrace it. We've both always been Summer 4EVR! people but this whole year has been such a downer that instead of being sad about the end of summer, we're going to be happy af about a fresh new season. TOTALLY SO HAPPY. Anyway, in the spirit of this new effort, I went searching for some good sweaters to get us all in the mood:

This turtleneck sweater is actually a fleece top from Alo Yoga so it's basically fawncy loungewear.

My friend Kate just ordered this and I LOVE IT. Looks good from the back!

I'm still contemplating a cozy gin cardigan from Barefoot Dreams. So soft.

This crazy fun zebra sweater is Banana Republic! I was also surprised.

Okay, technically this is a hoodie but it's also a knit so it totally counts as a sweater. Plus, HOW CUTE.

My favorite J.Crew Sophie cardigan now comes in a delightful plum color. I'm taking it personally.

I love this Sanctuary camo/leopard print long cardigan and it comes in straight and plus sizes

This one is just plain mean to include, but it's the cashmere gin cardigan of my dreams.

And finally, this cheap n' cheerful oversized sweater from Old Navy just looks easy to wear.

We Discuss: Fall Things I Guess.

A: I want this for fall reasons:

A: But, I’m mad because it was part of the Nordstrom Anniversary sale and “sold out” really quickly.

A: Surprise! It’s back. Full price.

M: Goddammit Nordstrom.

M: While we are goddamning Nordstrom, this blazer has been following me across the internet and it’s maybe the only thing I actually Want and it’s only available in small sizes:

A: Ugh, that is really cute.

M: It’s my color and a perfect Zoom outfit.

A: I mostly just want all the comfy athleisure.

A: Or maybe a roomy potato sack made from fleece.

M: I mostly want things that no longer exist like this stupid sweater blazer:

A: How many times have you attempted to order that?

M: I have ordered it 6 times.

M: Oh JCrew you ASSHOLES look what literally just showed up on Nordstrom Rack:

A: OH MY GOD

M: I am seeing red.

A: That’s why they kept cancelling on you - they sent them all to the Rack.

M: I’m probably going to buy it but I’m NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT.

A: I’d want to burn my store down if it hadn’t already closed, which I’m sad about because everything is confusing.

M: I am salty about it because it was $36 on JCrew.com and $70 on NR (which is still a good deal but SALTY.)

M: Other than that stupid blazer, the only thing I actively want are these pants, which I am 90% certain will not work on me, but apparently I have to learn this lesson in person:

A: Those pants follow me around the internet. Do it for science!

M: I am tall and curvy and there is NO WAY they will look good on me. And yet!

A: It says “loved and worn by all.”

A: (as long as you aren’t bigger than XL!)

M: 👎🏻

A: I am wearing my new joggers and they’re everything I want in an at-home pant.

A: It helps with the shopping malaise.

A: IT IS SEPTEMBER FIRST I SHOULD WANT THINGS.

M: Fall is a LIE.

A: I hate it. I hate pumpkin spice things.

M: I do love a candle.

A: I suppose, yes. That bougie fireplace candle might be my favorite.

M: Fall: good for candles and that’s it.

M: Anyway I feel like I should really have my eye on more than random blazers and Pants for Science.

A: Fall is also good for boots. Seriously contemplating if this is the year I go for a pair of Birkenstock boots. I just want them to be cute.

DO you? Or do you really want THIS:

A:  I do not. I do not want that.

M: But, cats.

A: I do not not not.

M: It's kind of cracking me up. Like I think it was designed BY CATS.

A: All the cats: YOU LIKE CAtS BUY THIS SHIRT IDIOT

M: I should buy the stupid leopard sweater blazer right.

A: Just buy it.

M: The NR product shot reminds me that I want a good faded perfectly fitting denim shirt.

A: Well, there you go.

M: That's a literal unicorn for someone with boobs and hips.

A: I'll bet you can find one that will be cancelled six times.

A: J.Crew has just the thing.

M: That's my skill.

A: Just get the cat shirt maybe.

M: CATS CATS CATS

We Discuss: Everlane Stockholm Syndrome, Part II

M: Have you ever tried anything from Cuyana?

A: Nope, I haven’t.

M: I feel like this might be My Turtleneck:

A: That’s beautiful and is making me itch just looking at it.

M: Ah yes but you are the princess and the pea and I a mere peasant with rough skin 😂

A: I am a delicate flower.

M: Def

M: I’m going to keep looking but I do like that one.

A: It’s beautiful!

A: I still have a credit at Everlane and might get another cashmere sweater for winter. Loden green or black?

M: Ooh I love the loden but if you don’t have a black sweater that’s a classic.

A: That’s my struggle - I don’t have a black sweater but I do have two in grey - light and charcoal.

M: Hmmm

A: Like, how cute would the loden be with black jeans?

M: Very!

A: But, a black cashmere sweater is CLASSIC.

M: Also yes

M: But you have two grey sweaters which is close.

A: RIGHT

A: And black is always available. That loden color is new and will certainly sell out.

M: There you go

M: And you do wear black jeans a lot and have a black leather jacket.

M: Loden offers more contrast.

A: IT DOES

A: There, you talked me into it by evoking the leather jacket.

M: Hahahah

A:  Related: We Discuss Everlane Stockholm Syndrome.

M: Haaaaa

M: They got you.

A: Every time.

A: EVERY. TIME.

A: PS. They have a cashmere turtleneck

M: UGH

M: Oh wait I’ve looked at that and it’s way more fitted than I want.

A: I like the Cuyana one better.

M: Me too

A: Everlane Crisis Averted.

Review: Madewell Remi Mule (and Vince Newlyn sneakers!)

Spoiler alert: I don't love everything I order online. I received my Madewell Remi mules yesterday and I was pretty excited about them and positive that I would love them. Guess what? I do not love them.

Okay, they look pretty cute in the photo but I accidentally ordered a half size up from my usual size so it was already a doomed purchase. (Why the H, Madewell? Why you gotta be confusing?) Right off the bat they were too big. This is absolutely my fault, but knowing I'd have to return them either way made me really think about how I felt. I am just less in love with them in person. They appear slightly too long and pointy and the colors in the pattern aren't as vibrant as I was expecting:

Somehow the stock photo made the grey sections look a bit purple-y to me but they are definitely just grey. The positive: These mules are really well made and the snake pattern is striking. The negative: they just weren't doing it for me. Back they go.

NOW, I also got a pair of Vince Newlyn sneakers this week that I purchased secondhand. They are GREAT. So beautifully made, good thick suede and really comfortable:

On Marianne's recommendation I sized down to a 7.5 (I usually wear an 8) and they fit perfectly. They are slightly narrow, so that is something to take into consideration. I just love the idea of a high top sneaker boot for fall and these fit the bill. I can't wait to wear them for real! They are available at Off Fifth and there's a great taupe version on Last Call that are clearanced out.

For the rest of my outfit I'm wearing my new Athleta Zephyr tee and it's a just the best - so light and easy. I'm also wearing Madewell jeans which will surprise no one. Details:

Here's a dumb close-up to show you the contrast knit trim on my tee. Exciting, I know. I'm also wearing my Soko paddle pendant which is still available (but in a slightly smaller size.)

It's hard to take photos of black suede, you guys. Just trust that these Vince sneakers are super great. I'm also still very much into my Miu Miu bag! It's back up to full price, so instead of posting similar items, I'm going to suggest you check out the Lo & Sons sale because our favorite backpack is now 50% off! I have the navy camo and use it everyday - it's completely replaced my work tote. (Also, despite the Hanover claiming it only fits a 13" laptop, I am able to squeeze my 15" in it with no issues.)

That's it! Two lame reviews in one blog entry. I am just such an overachiever.
