Marianne: Too Cold For Flats

**added a couple more things to the shop! check out this Tibi tunic sweater and Clare Vivier clutch!**

You know what gives me fits? Flats in the winter. In theory they should be great, your toes are covered and you get a break from heels. But, here is the issue: I don't like the look of flats with socks. And therefore, my feet freeze. So really I have about a 3 week window every year for flat weather. This is my cross to bear.

That said, I bought a black patent version of the Best Flats Ever off eBay, and man. These are just the most comfortable shoes in the world. I will say that I went with the sizing recommendation for the French Sole Sloop and sized up a half size, and I wish I hadn't. They are a bit loose in the heel on me. But my feet are narrow, so perhaps I'm the exclusion.

A couple of people on Twitter have asked for a side view, and I don't think I'm going to go with regular "bump shots" but I'll oblige you this time. There's a real baby in there!

Lastly, you might be on the fence about investing in a maternity winter coat, but let me tell you, it's really nice to be able to button up on a cold day. I can still wear my regular coats, just not fully buttoned, but I bought this Old Navy Maternity swing coat last time I was pregnant and it's pretty great and wasn't very expensive. They always have some great options, and Target does as well (this one is under $30!).

top: Schon Maternity (similar here and adorable non-maternity version here)
jeans: Paige Union Maternity Jegging (non-maternity version on major sale here)
scarf: no label (similar color here)
flats: French Sole Sloop in black patent (similar budget version here)
bag: Marc Jacobs Mag Bag in Fool's Gold
coat: Old Navy Maternity (similar on sale for $22 here and non-maternity swing coat for $50 here)

  2. Well feck, now I want that top too. I'm a sucker for a wrap top.

  3. Those ARE the best flats ever. I bought a pair last weekend at the 6pm.com outlet in Kentucky on my way home from a girls' weekend for $40. Wore them yesterday.

  4. You look so great! I love the bump. Please reconsider your stance on showing us the progress. Is it crazy that I miss my giant belly? haha

That top looks nursing friendly too. I want one! Also very cute coat!

  5. Love the coat! I bought the L'Oreal voluminous mascara you've mentioned here a few times. Thanks for that, it is the bomb!

  7. First your lotion aversion, now your sock + flats weirdness! I think we are sharing a brain!!!

My solution to how weird I feel about wearing socks with flats is dress socks made out of hosiery-type stuff. Something about the thinner/less opaque fabric makes it ok for me? Of course, this really only works for work-wear. With jeans I just grin and bear the cold feet and/or resign myself to boots.

    1. Yeah, I think I'm just resigned to boots for the next two months. I'll survive. I don't even like how thin socks look/feel with flats. I'm a weirdo!

  8. I just got a giant box from Zappos today containing several types of flats I decided to try out. I have "stupid toes" that always get blisters, and I think the Sloops are going to be the ones I keep. I'm typically a 7.5 in dress shoes and that size fit me snugly. The billion reviews I read say they will stretch out a little too. Just wish they were a little cheaper.

    1. They are pricey, but they do hold up well and you'll wear them so much that the cost per wear ends up being low. What color did you get? I'd like to replace my worn out leopard pair.

  9. I have that Target coat, and I love it! Although I didn't get it on clearance — blurg. It's super warm and is actually lined nicer than my non-maternity Old Navy tweed coat.
