Friday Night Leathers.

M: I am reading this and it's fascinating.

A: I read that! So crazy.

M: Half a million dollars. DOLLARS. On crazy leather clothes mostly.

A: Well, this pretty much kills any desire I had for Rag & Bone boots:

M: I just laughed SO HARD.

A: I mean, I don't know what this is all doing for your love of Friday Night Lights, but I'm sorry.

M: He just wrote the book and is in no way responsible for the fictional Coach and Tim Riggins, so I'm cool.

A: I'm glad to hear it. I worry.

M: Haaaa. It takes more than a shopaholic weirdo to make me hate this:

A: Oh, hi!

And that's good, because there is this.

M: Or this:

But especially this:

A: I...don't even remember what we were talking about.

M: I am just so AMUSED by Buzz.

M: Except the underwear shot OMGGGGGGG.

A: UNNECESSARY.

M: I found him so weirdly endearing until that and now I am blind.

A: My favorite part of that article is the part where he thought, "You just don't give a fuck" was a compliment. No.

M: I know.

A: "You look like Bon Jovi!" is also not a compliment.

M: Haaaaaa.

A: But, what do I know? I've never spent more than half a MILLION DOLLARS on designer clothes.

M: Mostly leather.

A: And women's boots.

M: At least they are nice boots?

Adrien: It's the Sweater.

One of the annoying things that happens when you photograph your outfits is that you realize that items that you like, really like, often look crappy in photos even if they look okay (OR SO YOU THOUGHT) in real life. This sweater, which I wore all winter, looks like baggy unflattering badness in every single photo. Remember when I wore it here? Not great. But it's comfortable and a fun color and soon I will get to burn it while I dance around in a sleeveless dress and sandals, so there.

sad face.

Adrien: Hair Aspirations.

So, you guys may not have noticed, but I'm trying to grow my hair out again. I know. I have this thing where I try to grow it out, get frustrated, and chop it right back off. Right now my hair is "long" (for me) and I've spent a lot of brain space trying to figure out where I'm going with it. That's why when BlogHer asked us to share a BlogHerTV hair tutorial video I was happy to do it. It's topical! In my brain! But, here's the thing, most video tutorials are for people with long hair, which I clearly don't have. But I have aspirations so I picked How To Make a Sexy Ponytail because I want to have one of these one day:

It's cute, right? If I keep growing, it can be mine. I mean, check it:

Crap, those photos make me want to cut it again. Anyway! Make sure you watch to the end so you can enter the Hair Sweepstakes for a chance at two prizes of $100 or a grand prize of $250!

Marianne: Getting Large.

Oh y'all. I am 28+ weeks pregnant and starting to get pretty big. Pretty. Big.

Spring is never coming but I AM NOT WEARING MATERNITY TIGHTS ANY MORE. NO MORE. I'M DONE Y'ALL. I'm wearing boots and wool socks and a scarf and that will just have to DO.

With that out of the way, how freaking cute is this dress? Good to know my striped dress obsession has followed me into pregnancy. I have been waiting not-so-patiently for it to warm up enough to wear this and clearly I've given up. One of these days I'll pair it with gold flat sandals and my new vest and won't that be darling? SIGH.
LARGE!

Gap Sunkissed Pullover Review

Often my shopping mania is fueled by the pursuit of one perfect, simple thing. I love fun prints and quirky shoes but I also crave simplicity and perfection and often that hoped-for item only exists in my mind (or at a price point beyond all reasonable hope.) I've yet to find my Perfect Black Boots or my Perfect Mid-Rise Jeans, but this sweatshirt trend? This I have managed to nail and I've done it at a reasonable price. Hell yeah, girl found a SWEATSHIRT. CALL EVERYONE.

I talked about my sweatshirt desires in this post and what I ended up buying is the Gap Sunkissed Pullover in both grey and navy. Here it is in grey:

Gap Sunkissed Pullover

Now to be sure, it's...a sweatshirt, but this one is slightly more interesting because the edges and side panels are a slightly darker shade of grey which gives it a bit of style. (I know my photos are crap, but Gap's photo shows the color differences more clearly.)

This is exactly the kind of simple I like - a casual style tweaked slightly to be more interesting without being in your face. And hey, anytime something super-comfortable is in style I try to embrace it. I mean, I get that this is how UGGs happen, but can you blame people? Shit is comfy.

I'm comfy! Except my jeans are falling down.

I'm wearing a size small in this photo but when they go on sale (and they will) I will probably buy a medium just to have a looser, less flattering, version because I'm a total hoarder. Also, since I have your attention I want to tell you about a couple great tops from Target. One of them is this shirt:

Mossimo long sleeved top

I have two (grey and black) and I'm mad that I didn't buy more colors before they pulled them. If you find them in your store, buy. They are the greatest: thin, soft, comfortable, cute. Also, this top is wicked cute:

Merona Raglan Pullover Top
It runs a bit small, so if you order, size up. I liked it a lot but didn't buy it because, seriously, I have enough damn grey tops. Heather grey is my new stripes, you guys.

Goop! She's Just Like Us!

M: The Gooper is telling us to be punk. And also wear pastels. And OMG THE SATIN SHORTS AND BELLY SHIRT CAN WE DISCUSS?

A: Shall I give you a rundown of my emotional state for each outfit?

M: Please do, I'll pop popcorn.

A: #1 Okay. Okay, I'm okay. I'm okay.

M: #1 What's the opposite of punk? Gwyneth Paltrow.

A: #2 I am definitely not okay. I like the bag?

M: #2 I think that bag is stupidly tiny and also she is dressed as an Easter egg.

A: #3 I am confused. I like all the parts, not on her. My head hurts.

M: #3 Confession: this is probably the only outfit I would wear out of all of these.

M: I'm so excited for #4.

A: #4 WHAT IS HAPPENING.

...mommy?

M: #4 WHERE ARE YOU GOING IN THIS OUTFIT? I MEAN IT, WHERE?

A: NOTHING MAKES SENSE.

M: I WANT EVIDENCE THAT SHE WORE THIS OUT. FOR A FANCY OCCASION. LIAR!

A: WHAT KIND OF "NIGHTTIME OCCASION" PALTROW?

M: CRACK SMOKING?

A: YES. CLEARLY.

M: SHALL WE MOVE ON TO #5 BECAUSE I COULD GO ALL DAY.

A: #5 Makes me feel normal and sane comparatively.

M: #5 Except for the part where you wear a skirt that makes you look naked for a casual evening at home. Otherwise toooootally normal.

A: I feel queasy again.

M: There there. Let's keep moving.

A: #6 Positively cheering! I might go out for a walk.

M: #6 It's fine. The color of a dirty bandaid, but fine.

A: #7 WEEPING. LAUGHING. WEEPING. LAUGHING.

M: #7 Gwyneth Paltrow you just stop it this instant. You would never wear this IN YOUR LIFE YOU LYING LIAR.

M: P.S. I'll take the bag.

A: SHE THINKS SHE'S A FASHION BLOGGER.

A: #8 Please commit me. That sweatshirt she linked costs $675. SIX HUNDRED. SEVENTY FIVE. DOLLARS.

M: #8 The top says "trust fund baby slumming it". The bottom says "unwashed Phish concertgoer".

A: I just can't. I can't. I can't. I CANNOT.

M: Oh, but the sweatshirt is grosgrain-trimmed! Surely that makes it worth it.

A: It's COTTON. NOT EVEN CASHMERE.

M: Tooooootally worth it.

A: Padded room, please.

M: Stars, they're just like us!

Adrien: Cardigan Help.

Alright kids, you all were really helpful with the recommendations on our recent sneaker post, so I'm going to ask for help again. My most recent assesment of last year's herd of cotton cardigans has proven dire. They are a faded, pilled, stretched out pile of sadness and need replacing. My absolute favorite cardigan (which I  own in three colors) came from Ann Taylor two years ago, but this spring they haven't stocked anything I like nearly as much. I prefer v-neck, cotton or a blend, but no wool or other itchy animal hair. This is what I'm considering:

This one looks nearly perfect, but the cotton cardigan I bought from the Gap last spring is a pilled, unwearable mess. I'm suspicious but it looks so good:

I always consider J Crew, but then I wuss out and don't buy anything. It just seems slightly too much money and I'm never sure about the fit. I do like this one though (in grey):

I like the color and detail of this one from Banana Republic, but it's crewneck, which I don't wear as much. Too preppy?

I love Boden's quality but I'm not sure if this cardigan is streamlined enough. Good colors, though. (That red!)

And what about this one from Uniglo? I am so curious and have heard some good things about this brand but I've never ordered from them.

Okay, your turn! Have you purchased any of these? What did you think? Also, please tell me about your favorite cardigan so I have more options to obsess over.

Adrien: OMG MF SPRING.

Here's what you can't tell from these pictures: I'm freezing my ass off. But you guys! It's spring and I am NOT LETTING WINTER WIN. I decided to wear something I'd been saving for warmer days, a melon pink silk blouse I found languishing among the wool sweaters on the sale rack. I love it a lot and I know I'll be wearing it a ton, but it showed me immediately how much I need a couple of spring cardigans. I had absolutely nothing to layer over it but pilled winter sadness, so I went without. So cold. So sad. Don't care:

Yes, another eBay rescue. Will discuss later.

Not Sneaker Girls.

A: I'm not a sneaker girl, but you know what I want? Grey Chucks:

Chuck Taylor All Star Converse

A: I feel like if I buy a cool, casual pair of sneakers I might actually wear them. Like, out.

M: Those are cute. I used to wear Converse all the time and still have three pairs. I never, ever wear them.

A: I don't have any sneakers that aren't strictly for the gym. I want a cute pair! I can do this!

M: Do it! They are cheap! My thing with Converse is I don't like how they look with socks, but don't like how they feel without them. And yes, I can see those "invisible" footie socks.

A: It's a problem. There are also the Bensimon sneakers that all the Euro girls are crazy for:

Bensimon Tennis Laced Sneakers

A: But I don't know. I think they look like old lady Keds.

M: If they weren't French no one would care.

A: Hey, remember the Spice Girls?

Superga Platform Net Sneakers

A: Superga does too.

M: No no no no NON. No!

A: Zig ah zig ah. Okay, these are Prada:

Prada Suede Lace Up Sneakers

A: They cost three hundred and seventy American dollars.

M: Oh just shut up Prada. That said, I swear I saw those knocked off somewhere. The espadrille trim.

A: Hmm. I am slightly tempted by the fancier slip-on Jack Purcell version of Chucks:

Jack Purcell Slip On Sneaker

A: But $70 seems like way, way too much for a pair of shoes I'm not actually going to wear.

M: Yeah, I'd road test the idea with something cheaper:

Converse One Star Slip On Sneaker

A: We share a brain! I just found a pair of the Converse Slip-on Oxfords on Amazon:
:

A: I had some gift card credit and got them for $22. Which I think is reasonable for shoes I probably won't wear.

M: Those are even better!

A: Yay! They will look so cute on the floor of my closet. And nowhere else.

M: And I just saw some flax colored slip on Bensimons that I now like, so thanks for that.

Bensimon Tennis Elastic Sneakers

A: Sorry! I can enable anything. And those aren't bad!

M: But let's face it, I'd never wear them.

A: They would be very cute in the bottom of your closet.

M: Yes, for $55.

A: Girl.

M: Not happening.

A: I think you should just take $55 in cash and throw it on your closet floor. Done!

M: Well spent!

A: Hooray!

Marianne: The Usual Stripes

Let me start with a warning: I'm afraid you're going to be seeing a lot of this dress in the coming weeks. It's just so comfortable and easy to wear, and also stripes. Yeah.

Also, my hair. It looked better in person? I hope? Maybe? And yes, still wearing The Shoes, which I will apparently wear until they actually fall apart, instead of just looking like they are on the verge. I have decided to just hold out for another pair of Sloops, FYI.

We've reached the point in this godforsaken "spring" where I cannot even bear to look at my boots, much less try and bend my unwieldy body over to put them on. I just can't. So my feet are cold, but I don't even care.

Hasn't this been a helpful post?
