Banana Republic Fall Collection: What I Ended up Buying.

I know I've already done a bunch of posts about BR's fall line but I bought A LOT of it and ended up returning about half which is pretty much how I roll. Sometimes you don't know if something will work with your wardrobe until you bring it home and make introductions.

What I kept:

I tried on the small in-store and it looked way too big on me so I ordered the extra-small and the petite small online. I ended up keeping the petite small (it fit best in the shoulders) and have already worn it a few times. Super cozy with cool faux leather details and zippers on the sleeves.

Faux-Leather Trim Open Cardigan
I I have a thing about grey sweaters. This is cropped but not obnoxiously so and I like the triangle detailing. I think it'll be great with jeans and boots when the weather gets cool.

Cropped Rib-Knit Crew
These have already become a staple in my wardrobe. I've worn them a bunch of times (and in an outfit) and they're just so easy. The fit is good, the details are interesting and they're the perfect length to wear with flats.
Sloan-Fit Black Moto Pant
Mini-Stripe Long-Sleeve Tee
Hey, look! I bought a striped tee. It's a tee with stripes, y'all. I like it. I wear it. I want MORE.

What I returned:

I knoooow. Here's what happened: When I bought the petite cardigan I then went and put this in my cart forgetting I was still in the petite section of the website. So, yeah. I accidentally bought the petite version and couldn't understand why it didn't fit the same until I looked at the tag. By the time I realized my mistake the regular one was sold out. So stupid, so sad.

Perforated Faux-Leather Pencil Skirt
Sloan-Fit Zip-Pocket Pencil Skirt
I liked this skirt with it's funky zipper details but the material is so stretchy that it would immediately begin to creep and shift and I just CANNOT WITH THAT. I think maybe I just have a hard time with skirts. Anyway, it wasn't true love so back it went.

Sloan-Fit Zip-Pocket Pencil Skirt
This is a belt. I thought it would look good with the pants but it was both too thin and too long and even with the discount code it was not quite a bargain. Eh. Bye belt.

Have you bought anything from the fall line at Banana Republic? What are your thoughts?

  1. Wow, you looked so good in that Banana Republic dressing room that I thought you'd buy half the store! I know I would... but I seriously admire you following through on that "don't buy something you don't love" philosophy that I just can't wrap my head around. You probably look good on a majority of items so you've learned to discriminate. When an outfit doesn't show muffin top I immediately cut the tags off. I still have to learn. ~Anon L.

    1. Well, I really did want that faux leather skirt, so if it comes back in stock I'll definitely re-buy it.

  2. No, but I went on a spree at the Gap!

Decided I needed a great quality navy coat with a big collar I could pop up this fall/winter. This one is amazingly well made... great wool blend, thin but warm quilted lining, two sets of pockets (angled are a must for a good warm slouch), great button placement (you can button up the top to make a snug funnel neck) and structure. Still has the tags on it cause I'm not sure about the double-breasted thing... looks a bit tenty when worn unbuttoned. I'll probably keep it, though, everything else being so great...

I stalked this online in the dark grey (now sold out) for weeks until the price dropped. Love it. It'll look great with maxi dresses through the fall, and then as an extra layer under a wool jacket when it's freezing out. Sizes super small, though. Usually I get an S or an M; this has to be an XS to fit right.

This actually looks more flattering in person than on the model (I think the shoes in the photo kill the look). I look forward to wearing it with a major statement necklace / black opaque tights / tall black boots... not necessarily all at the same time. I will mention one major caveat about the dress; I wish the lines didn't curve downward in the back. Makes kind of a sad face on the behind? Still like it despite this flaw, though.

  3. I have the perforated pleather skirt, which I wore today with a navy satin blouse and my "official business" pumps bc I needed to kill it at a meeting with a director. BOOM.

  4. My winter wardrobe is almost all BR.

    I bought:

The pleated black leather skirt for $18 thanks to their Embark program. (Do you use that? IT IS AMAZING): http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=17051&vid=1&pid=128876002

    Quilted faux leather skirt: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=35288&vid=1&pid=128851002

Faux leather trim stripped tee: http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=5043&vid=1&pid=970580002

Faux leather moto sweater (again, embark! It was so cheap thanks to that program): http://bananarepublic.gap.com/browse/category.do?cid=5032&departmentRedirect=true#department=136

And, um, a bunch more stuff. They have been running crazy sales lately and I couldn't resist.

    1. Nice! And sadly Embark is only available in a few cities so far and mine isn't one of them.

    2. Oh man, I've earned about $300 in embark credit. They make it so easy to use too. I log into my account and it automatically shows me how much credit I have. I'm totally sold on the program.
