Adrien: Unfettered.

Some days I'm very into looking pulled together and tailored, but I'm also perfectly happy wearing a sack, as long as it's a pretty, interesting sack. I think Jess over at Consume or Consumed said it well and I totally agree with her - sometimes a dress looks better when it's loose and easy. I've tried belting this one ten different ways and I really just like it best on it's own:

I don't think it necessarily does great things for my shape, but I also don't think it's unflattering. I especially love taking a fun, floaty silk dress and pairing it with my favorite pair of stompy boots. I'm not sure I 100% love the brown tights, but I'm not sure what other color would work. (Suggestions? I need fun tights.)

And just for you lot, I decided to spaz out a little:

Okay, a lot.

  1. All you need is a beret and Mary Tyler Moore- WATCH OUT!

  2. you got air! I like the dress unbelted too. I think grey tights would work, maybe some mustard yellow ones if you had a cream or brown cardigan on top?

  3. We need a closeup on that bling.

I agree, sometimes it's really nice to have a dress that just flows over you.

  4. I like the brown tights but also vote for grey, mustard or even a pair the same color as the cardigan you're wearing (switching out another cardigan, of course).

You make me really want those boots.

  5. I LOVE the way the necklace is all airborne in your action shot, and sincerely hope you didn't break a tooth.

I was going to say "lighter shade of brown," but I think I like the "mustard" idea even better.

And I, with my new love of boots, also need ideas for places to buy cool-yet-work-appropriate tights.

  6. I would have to agree with other commenters! I think the dress looks great loose and un-belted. As for tights, maybe a cranberry pair? Like the colour of your cardigan? I wear a lot of grey tights and purple tights, and am convinced they go with everything ;)

  7. I think the brown tights work well. If you have a bright red color, you'd draw the eye to that little bit of leg. Right now I like that it blends with the boots and creates a better line.

  8. You look great, Adrien! I adore the jumping photo and really appreciate the blog shoutout! I love an easy loose fit dress. Fashion rules be damned!

I really like the brown tights here but think you could also pull off navy, charcoal, or a heathered brown in addition to the cranberry color suggested above.

  9. Thanks for the tights-colors ideas, everyone! I'm liking your suggestions a lot.

Mary, as for where to buy, it's pretty hit-or-miss. I like Spanx tights for their lasting awesomeness, but they're expensive. For regular tights I've had varying luck with Marshalls.
