In Search Of: Pretty Slips.

I recently picked up a couple of lovely silk Tucker wrap dresses on eBay, and while I love them and think they will be perfect for hot weather, they are flimsy little things. So, I need some new full slips. Thanks to the way they are cut, there's a very good chance the slip will peek out occasionally, so Adrien's go-to slip is out. I need pretty, y'all. And NOT TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS, WTF. Here's what I'm eying.

More than I want to spend, but by far my favorite.

Again, too expensive (what is happening), but this is what I had in mind as well.

Anthropologie has a bunch of pretty slips. I like that this one is a floral. And the second is under $30.

Perfect color and price, I just wish there was some lace at the bottom.

Maybe I could wear a slip dress as a slip?

Why are all of Victoria's Secret slips so SHORT? I like these but they would barely cover my rear end.

WHY SO MUCH MONIES? I GIVE UP.

Help me, you guys. I'd like a pretty slip with colorful lace that would look cute if it peeked out of a wrap dress. HELP.

  1. Look in the vintage section on etsy--there are often over-dyed pretty vintage lace slips for under $30.

    2. Seconded! All of my slips are vintage and so pretty - lacy yellow, mint green, silver (!!!), black, and a beloved coral one that I wore until it fell apart. They have such lovely details and suit my curvy figure better to boot.

  2. Lace on the bottom is pretty, but it can reduce the "slippiness" of the slip (the dress fabric can catch on it) or show through as bumpiness. Basically there are dress/skirt slips like the genius Gap ones and lacy, boudoir slips.

    Great roundup of pretty options!

    1. Hm, a very good point. I just want something non-beige, I guess, so if it shows at the bottom it looks like I did it on purpose. Does that even make sense?

  3. Now I want to ask the manufacturer/designer what makes a slip worth $2k. And who's buying it. Other than Gwenyth, obvs.

  4. BTW, Kohls and JC Pennys for whatever reason have great basic full and half slips for good prices. They are not usually silk, but wear well. I wear slips under all dresses and skirts if unlined. Makes a world of difference!

  5. Grace and Lace makes these super cute dress extenders. I've ordered a few items from them, and they're super cute and well-made, especially for the price: https://www.graceandlace.com/clothing-wholesale/lace-dress-extenders-1/ Also, check out A Slip Shop on etsy for fun options: http://www.etsy.com/shop/aSlipShop
