Weekend Shopping Report: This and That.

I haven't bought much lately but I have a few things to report from last weekend:

I recently went looking online for a pair of magical shorts for my upcoming vacation to northern California. I wanted something packable and cute that I could also wear for a hike or kayaking. Also, I wanted a 4" (or longer) inseam. This seemed like a tall order but I figured Athleta would have something and I found these:

They are the Camden Printed Short. I went to try them on in store and loved them so much I just bought them. They have a nice wide waistband, cute zipper pockets and are light as a feather. Sold. I wore them out yesterday for running errands and they didn't ride up or otherwise piss me off, so they're definitely good to go for vacation.

Now, here is a lesson in how not to sell things on Poshmark:

1. Find a great pair of Madewell jeans at the thrift store

2. Wash and carefully press the jeans

3. Photograph jeans and take measurements

4. Try jeans on for blog science

5. Add a top and shoes and wear your new jeans to work

6. Oops

Erm, so sometimes the things I thrift to sell end up being for me and hey, nothing wrong with that! I didn't have a pair of plain black skinny jeans and now I do. I am regularly amazed at the things I find at the thrift store.

One other thing I bought that I wanted to mention - this summer-weight "quilt" from Target. We desperately needed something that wasn't a cat-destroyed knit blanket so I bought this quilt and it's SO nice. Attractive and weighty but still light enough for summer. I haven't washed it yet but so far it's great and of course the cats love it.

Finally, are their any short haired ladies around? I got a new haircut and It's been too many years since I've needed products for anything but super-straightness. Y'all got any recs for a texturizing/volume type product? I don't generally like salt sprays but I'm open to suggestions for any kind of volumizer or paste or balm-type product. Help me be piece-y!

Weekend Window Shopping: All the Anthro Dresses.

Anthropologie is having quite the sale on dresses and there are A LOT of them. I've narrowed it down to eight that I'd love to have in my closet:

Stuff I Like: What Do I Even Like, Y'all?

First order of business, goddamn Anthro put my Maeve dress on sale because OF COURSE THEY DID. If you bought it this week, get a price adjustment! If you were tempted, you should go for it.

Now, this was supposed to be a Stuff I Like post but I have talked about basically everything I like already. Oh, wait, have you watched Lizzo's Tiny Desk Concert? (Probably NSFW but whatev.)

Y'all, Marianne introduced me to Lizzo and Cuz I Love You is TRULY my summer soundtrack. Just so freaking great and you should all check it out if you haven't already (which you probably have because I am always 6 months behind on this stuff.)

Oh, one more thing. Madewell totally has my number because they're all, "Heeey. You like snakeskin, right? How about these?"

AND THEN they are like, how about 20% off some cool shoes? Get out of here, Madewell. Damn.

Now, tell me what you like lately because I am out of stuff.

We Discuss: Garbage Tees and Sack dresses.

A: I was home yesterday with a migraine and when I was feeling a little better I did a half-hearted closet edit. Why do I hold onto things I haven’t worn in ages? Am I really going to be sad I didn’t keep that garbage dress from Marshall's that doesn’t fit me anymore?

M: Aw man I am sorry about your migraine!

A: I’m still coming out of it.

M: Yeah I feel like I am constantly purging and constantly finding more stuff to toss

A: It’s just so dumb. Like, I finally got rid of that cute Old Navy dress you gave me that no longer fits me and looks all sad and droopy

M: And then I do stupid stuff like get rid of ALL of my t-shirts except for my new Madewell ones
and then guess what happens when I need to do yard work? I ruin them

A: I always keep a pile of garbage tees to wear around the house and stuff

M: Yes it was a mistake

A: I don’t really have pajamas, I have a sad collection of old t-shirts and at-home pants

M: I need to find a happy medium

A: Plus, those Everlane tees get real soft after a year

M: I love those pajama shorts from Screw Factory

M: JCREW

A: Hahaha

M: Ha

A: JSCREW

M: truth

M: I am wearing my black kaftan dress at work today and I’ve gotten so many complements! I am really tempted by the leopard print but I am verging on Too Many animal print dresses

A: Yay! I am just so into a floaty sack dress and that dress looks great on you

M: Ugh it’s SO CUTE I should just get it

A: Just get it

A: It’s $35

M: The blue batik pattern is also real cute but I need to rein it in maybe

A: It is, but I like the leopard better

M: Ah sold out in my size

A: Aw, fuck

M: The leopard it says is in stock in a 10 but won’t let me add it 😟

A: Booooo

A: It says sold out on my end

M: womp

M: Well that answers that. It may come back though, the black one did

A: Keep an eye on it

M: always

Outfit of the Day: My New Favorite Dress.

I did it again - I broke my rule about not paying full price for something but the heart wants what it wants and the heart wanted the Tania Tiered Tunic Dress. The heart was also worried it would sell out, so...

Y'all, this dress is a SACK and I totally love it. It's just one of those good floaty dresses that barely touches you and that's what I want in August, you know? Just FYI - it runs a bit big - I am wear a size small. (Not to enable but it's a good dress and you should consider it.) Maeve does a good job with the floaty dresses. This one also looks promising and this adorable swing dress is actually on sale!

I realized while writing this that most of my Anthro purchases from the last year, including the tunic top I posted about recently, are Maeve. Most of the clothes at Anthro are too fussy for me, so I'm happy to have a go-to brand (even if it's over-priced.) Currently, however, I don't want a single thing from Maeve. Except maybe this dumb sweatshirt top. And maybe these pants that are All The Things. Ugh. Anyway, on to details:

Here's my secret to a no-makeup look: Put on a shit-ton of makeup and then shine a bright light on your face. Voila! Ha. I am wearing my Panacea labradorite earrings (this pair is VERY similar) and my favorite sold-out Soko pendant (smaller version still available!) I'm also wearing a teeny Madewell star necklace because why not.

I gave my Miu Miu bag a rest and threw all my crap back in my old standby MJ Too Hot To Handle hobo. This style is probably the most similar but you can also find it on Poshmark and the like. My sandals are Lotta from Stockholm Peep Toe clogs and they're available in a bunch of colors including red like my pair.

PS. Of course I tried on my leather jacket with my new dress! I can't wait to wear it with boots and this jacket. (I mean, I can wait because I love summer, but I'll admit I'm looking forward to changing up the wardrobe.)

BUY THIS (So We Don't Have To): Sale Doldrums.

August is kind of the worst shopping month, isn't it? We're all super tired of summer clothes but not yet on board with buying for fall because it's still a million degrees outside. It's a good month to lay low or to scoop up weird one-off bargains from the outlet websites. (Guess which option I chose?)

FIRST, I want to let y'all know that the $80 Frye tote seems to be available for sale again at TJ Maxx:

GO GET IT. I WILL WAIT. I checked over the other clearance items at TJ Maxx and didn't find anything compelling. That tote is definitely the best of the lot. I then checked out Off Fifth to see what I could find. Here's what I found:

This adorable Rebecca Minkoff leopard print backpack is $45 with code FALLSTYLE. $45! If leopard isn't your thing, never fear, it comes in a bunch of solid colors as well. (But the leopard is the best, isn't it?)

Next I checked out Last Call. When I clicked on the site they gave me a limited time extra 10% off coupon! I am not very impressed with the clearance offerings but I do have my eye on this Lulu Frost charm necklace:

I am waiting for it to be cheaper but it's still a good price for Lulu Frost. I also found these cute grey 7FAMK jeans that are under $50 and would transition well into fall:

Ooh, and these Lisa Freede climber earrings are so pretty and a very good price with the extra 10% off:

Finally I went to Nordstrom Rack which is looking kind of sad right now BUT I did find these quite perfect looking Madewell jeans:

Dark wash, high rise (but not crazy high), no fuss. Basically perfect. Full disclosure: they're also on the Madwell site for the same price but Nordstrom Rack has a LOT more sizes.

Beauty: Stuff I'm Dying To Try.

This week has been kind of a disaster - travel, migraine headache, you name it. I do not have my shit together enough to post an outfit this week so instead I'm going to talk about what's hanging out in my perpetual beauty shopping cart:

Does anyone know about this Kosas Tinted Face Oil Foundation? It's a face oil and a foundation! How on earth does that work? I read about it on one of my very favorite old-school blogs (which I've been reading since back in the Diaryland days) and I am SO INTRIGUED. I need to get a sample of this magic it because picking color via internet never works for me and also I am unable to wrap my mind around a face oil foundation. I will report back!

I am also going to admit right now that I am FULLY wanting basically anything from Gucci Westman's line after listening to her episode on Fat Mascara. It's very expensive and very beautiful and mostly I want one of the makeup brushes and also maybe the highlighter, the foundation stick and the blush. All of it, really. I know better but that doesn't mean I don't covet the whole line.

I'm also still on a The Ordinary kick and The Buffet serum is next on the list. My friend Kate gave me a small sample and my face didn't seem to mind it, so it's definitely included in my next order. It's great because it's full of peptides and will hopefully help to stave off decay but it's even greater because it's freaking $15. I'm still getting good results with the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% and I want MORE. FIX MY FACE, DECIEM.
