Adrien: Low End Awesome.

Yesterday the amazing Kim France posted about five great drugstore beauty finds and it made Marianne and I want to buy these things immediately. IMMEDIATELY. Stop it, Kim France! You are a mean lady. You are also the reason I subscribed to Lucky for years. Anyway, I decided that I should, um, borrow this idea for a blog entry because I keep having to get up extra early to do stuff (this morning I had to drop my car off for it's tri-annual bloodletting) so outfit photos aren't happening. Sorry.

Anyway! This is the shit I buy at the drugstore because it works for me and I don't need everything I put on my face and body to be fancy. Most things, yes. But not all things. Do not read into this.

 Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion
I pretty much use this exclusively. It's thick and unscented (though I think it smells very faintly of almonds) and my skin loves it. I even put it on my face sometimes. Whatever you do, do NOT buy the generic drugstore version of this - it smells vaguely like gasoline.

 CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser
I've talked about this before. It's like Cetaphil, but better, thicker, less...viscous. I don't know, I like it. Again, unscented and basic and works with my Clarisonic. The moisturizing cream is really good too! I am pretty big on using simple, unscented skincare products. Boring, but I can buy some fancy eye shadow if I need excitement in my life.

Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express Mascara
I've posted about this before - Marianne made me buy it in February and I've abandoned all other mascara. My favorite thing about it is how black it stays. No fading! It's also nicely thickening and lengthening but does require de-gooping a bit at the end before you apply.

Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer
Wow, Maybelline, you have been stepping it up lately. This is just one of those concealer/highlighter things but it really does help me look less haggard. My undereye circles are epic but I am just not willing to shell out $40+ for the Touche Eclat. Just can't do it. This does a nice job of illuminating without making me look like a startled raccoon.

ChapStick Classic
Wait! Come back. I am not trying to insult your intelligence here, I just can't leave this out because I am an ADDICT. I should buy stock or something because no matter what kind of fancy lipbalm I try, I always come back to this. I like the plain black label variety and I hoard them like there is a worldwide shortage. Check it:

That was just the first grab. I'm sure there are eight more in my bag somewhere. So, now that I've shared my low-end favorites, what are yours? What is the drugstore product you swear by?

  1. I love me some aveeno mostly as it seems to be just the right thickness and unscented (too many scented products give me a headache). Cetaphil cleanser to use with my faux clairisonic ($25 from CVS) and Blistex medicated mint balm with SPF.

I'm single so thought for the longest time CostCo wouldn't make sense for me. For whatever reason I gave in and uh, the cost saving on gas alone covers the cost of the membership. Granted mine is directly on my way home from work so there is that. Anyway, my local CostCo carries Aveeno lotion and Cetaphil cleanser. I bought 40 oz (two 20-oz bottles) of both recently and the CostCo price was about $7 less than Target. I hate buying toiletries at the last minute so hooray for a billion-month supply of lotion and cleanser.

  2. L'Oreal Caresse lipsticks are bomb - they are like halfway between a lip stain and lipstick. I also love Rimmel nail polish - the wand is wider so you can do your whole nail in two strokes.

  3. I recently discovered Burt's Bees Tinted Lipbalm in Rose -- a sheer wash of pinky-red with the consistency of a balm. It looks similar to Fresh Sugar Rose (another favorite of mine) but at a fraction of the price. Love!

  4. Cherry chapstick for me - it's the best!
Also like Johnson + Johnson's Baby Bedtime Lotion.

  5. I likes my Cetaphil, and I have always been L'Oreal's bitch. I like their moisturizers, eye creams, eye makeup remover, mascaras, True Match foundations and powders, and a couple of their shampoos. Mitchum deodorant. Dr. Pepper Lipsmackers. Revlon ColorStay eyeliner pens. That's all I can think of for right now.

  6. One more. I am graying and not taking it lying down, I look too washed out. I lurve the drugstore mouse colors. Great job of grey coverage, a little tonality and I don't need help doing the back of my head. I started with L'oreal but after trying the John Freida this past weekend, I'm bowing to the John Freida mouse color temple.

  7. I am a drugstore/Target addict. I get all my body care and face care (except for night cream which I splurge on twice a year because low self esteem usually).

    Cleansers:
Simple facial wipes. Takes off everything and at night sometimes I just can't manage running water.
Aveeno positively radiant cleanser for mornings in the shower
Aveeno spf 30 facial mositurizer--I bounce between smart essentials and positively radiant
For body lotion I get sucked into what ever looks/smells good/is on sale. Currently I am really liking Jergen's shea butter lotion. Hint of cocoa butter scent, thick but absorbs easily. Awesome stuff.
Cover girl lash exact is my jam. I love the brush. I should try a more dramatic mascara though but I love having no clumps.
I am a lipbalm junkie, so that is too long a list.
Milani blushes are very pigmented (loved mango tango but I think they discontinued it?)

  8. Neutrogena Triple Moisture Hair Recovery Mask (the tub) is THE BEST conditioner on the planet.

Clean and Clear Oil blotting sheets - the blue plastic kind - so great, and the generic is just as good... instead of packing on more powder, especially in the summer.

Milani Infinite liquid eyeliner - from my cold dead hands will you take this away from me.

Tree Hut sugar scrubs (can only find it at Ulta now, used to be everywhere) is serious business.

  9. I love the Aveeno Daily Brightening Scrub - gentle, smooth scrubbers that exfoliate without tearing your face off. I also really, really like Covergirl LipStains. They're not really the color it says on the tube - I wore my favorite color, flirty nude, at my wedding, and it was a fairly vibrant red - but they don't rub off, and I hate the feel of sticky lipgloss (usually), and I can actually eat and drink with it on!

Now I want to go to CVS and find all of the items everyone's drugstore favorites! Thanks for the post!
