Marianne: Many Drugstore Makeups

Oh my god, I know! More makeup talk. What can I say, we are obsessed. ANYWAY, thanks to Kim France, who it is no secret Adrien and I have borderline inappropriate love for, I bought L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes. Y'all. This stuff is gooood. So good that I took a creepy comparison picture for you, putting it up against my standby as of late, Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Black Drama (and yes, specifically the Black Drama, which is superior to the other versions).BEHOLD:
Top: L'Oreal False Fiber; Bottom: Maybelline The Falsies Black Drama
Okay, that picture would be a lot better if the bottom one was in focus, and if I didn't look like I wanted to murder you, but I think you get the idea. The False Fiber Lashes mascara is great stuff, and you can layer it to make it even more dramatic. It lasts all day with no smudging or fading, and it removes as easy as most any other mascara. True love, you guys.

I also continued the stalking of Kim France by ordering an old favorite, Labello lip balm. This stuff was my absolute favorite in college. I would load up (seriously, I'd buy upwards of 20 tubes) in Europe when I went in the summer (I know, I hate me too), and then I would wear it religiously all year. Now you can buy it in the States, which makes it far less insufferable and still the best lip balm ever.

While on the subject of lip stuff, I mentioned here that I picked up a new Lip Butter. I'm generally a fan of the Revlon Lip Butters, they feel nice on and aren't a huge color commitment. For fall, I bought the Fig Jam and my first instinct was to cringe. It looked SO brown. Like, Monica and Rachel on Friends in the 90's brown. You know:

But surprise, it's very nice! Warm and glossy and fall perfection. Totally worth the $5 or whatever I spent on it. I'm wearing it in my past couple of outfit photos, if you want to see it on me.
So, those are my new favorite drugstore standbys. Have you guys tried the Lip Butters? What about that amazing mascara? And can one of you start a support group for Adrien and I? Kim France makes us want to Buy All The Things and it's getting embarrassing.

  3. I love the lip butter. I use Pink Truffle and Sugar Plum. Both are good neutral colors. I wear Pink Truffle almost daily.

  4. Another drugstore product that I really like is the Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer.

  5. I've been on the lookout for a good mascara, so I'm definitely going to try out that L'Oreal one!

I love the lip butter, too! I have three colors whose names I can't remember, but they're basically red, Barbie pink, and coral.

  6. The Lip Butters are awesome! I have Candy Apple and...something kind of orange and tropical and delicious. And a mauve that should look disgusting, but instead looks like "lips but better."

Great to know about the mascara. I am a big fan of the Falsies but I might have to switch!

  7. Wowee--that top mascara is amazing! So helpful to have these kinds of reviews! I thought you had gotten eyelash extensions when I first glanced at the photo! And I just bought that same Lip Butter in Fig! It so totally works on me and I love the feel and color. Both you and Temptalia (a makeup blog I frequent) recommended Revlon's lip butters, so when I was in the drug store waiting for some prescriptions to be filled, I picked up the Fig LB too! Thanks for the recs.

    1. I long for eyelash extensions, so you just made my day!

  8. Fig jam is my jam! I too was worried about the brownness cause I tend to always gravitate to dated brown hues of lip color but it is sheer enough to be not 90s.

Also, I love the eye photo comparisons! I now believe I need the top mascara.

  9. I have the lip butters in Tutti Frutti and Raspberry Pie. They're very pretty, but I'm ambivalent about Raspberry Pie in particular--it's too opaque to be a sheer lipstick, but too smeary to be an opaque lipstick. You get this intense dark fuchsia color that wears off completely in an hour...it's weird. But too pretty to stop wearing.

  10. Hmm, think I'll have to buy this L'Oreal mascara. The Revlon Lip Butter is Sugar Plum is my everyday lip color. Great for those with pale skin and dark hair and eyes. The Lip Butter in Cherry Tart over a red lipliner is the perfect red lip color that won't bleed.

  11. Okay, I have Important Questions about the mascara. First, mascaras tend to flake and smudge on me over a full day of my eyelashes hitting below my eye. Does this one stay put? And then, secondly, does it come off without major work? My current standard is the Beauty Tubes stuff, that comes off with water and stays in lace quite well until then, but I might be up for a change, given how good that looks!

    1. I find that it stays put well, and comes off as easily as most any makeup. I couldn't ever get on board with the tubey mascara, I felt like I was pulling my eyelashes out trying to take it off!

  12. I love this lip color - thank you for prompting me to try it. It is basically everything I want for my lips in one tube. On me it winds up being a very flattering brown-berry color. I'm a die-hard NARS girl, but you've brought me back to the drugstore aisles!
