We Discuss: Smells Like One Direction Spirit.

A: So, I bought that Volcano candle dupe at Target that you recommended and also got another one and this is one of the reviews online:

"this is supposed to smell louis william tomlinson and i don’t think i wanna burn it. i knew he would smell amazing i use this to cry bc ik i’ll never meet him. but stream defenseless and also stream walls :) tpwk- all the love a"

M: Oh my GOD

M: One Direction is SOMETHING

A: I KNOW. They really are

M: Wowowow

A: Like, how did this happen? Do you think Target has been planting people to say that certain candles smell like 1D?

M: I bought two of the little yuzu candles so I could have them for my office

M: Office candle is a nice upgrade but I don’t need a big one in here

A: I bought one of the little Sparkling Yuzu and one Cozy Nights aka 1D

M: lolololollll

A: I DIDN’T KNOW

A: But honestly, Louis smells pretty nice

A: Here's another review:

"Did I buy this because a random person on the Internet said it smelled like Louis Tomlinson? Why yes, yes I did. Does it smell like Louis Tomlinson? Why yes, yes it does. Absolute heaven and sun in one"

M: I literally typed in “candle that smells like” and it autofilled Harry Styles

A: random person on the Internet = Target’s marketing department

M: A Candle That Allegedly Smells Like Harry Styles Is Out of Stock

A: Well, we already knew what Harry smells like because we’re creepy

M: Target seems to be on a roll with these dudes

A: Big Target is raking it in:

"I love Louis, I love this candle. You kill my mind. I love this candle Never been so defenseless. I love this candle. Only for the brave. I love this candle. I got this candle for the first time in October I’ve gotten 4 ever since then. Louis Tomlinson world domination. Stream walls. Thank you Tommy for No control."

M: Wowowowow

A: It just keeps going

M: Can you imagine having that directed at you? overwhelming

A: Ha:

M: Saw that too

M: Pandering!

A: Totally

+++

M: Louis DOES smell good!

A: It’s nice, right?

M: I haven’t lit it yet but it’s in my stash

A: I found it very cozy without being too wood burny

M: I like to smell it and cry

A: Louuuuuissssss

M: Imagine picking him over Harry, I mean really

A: Kids today, I swear

A: The Harry candle appears to be available at Target again, just FYI

M: Oh dang

A: I know

M: Oh look how cute!

A: So cute! And it smells like Harry Styles? Sold.

We Discuss: Want vs Need

M: I just got a $100 Zappos gift card. This is the universe telling me to buy the furry Arizonas, yes?

A: Yessssss

M: I ordered them immediately

A: Excellent. There’s nothing like a free money purchase

M: I mean I still had to pay $50

A: Shhh

A: I’m getting a state tax rebate check in the mail today so I ordered another Helly Hansen to try

M: Ha! You are hilarious with this raincoat journey

A: I must know all. For blog science.

M: Ordered at 5pm and they will be here tomorrow. Damn

______

M:

A: Love! Did Zappos walk in and put them on your feet for you?

M: Basically

M: I am Team Birkenstock obvi but can’t decide if these are for outside of the house

A: Oh, I would

M: I will

M: Chris made a face

A: Haaaa

A: Boys don’t know

M: So true

A: I still want shearling clogs

M: They are so good

A: I also want Everlane The Day Glove flats

A: I also want burgundy Madewell boots

M: Heh

M: I have bought the two pairs of shoes I wanted for fall and feel pretty good

A: Please note: I don’t NEED ANYTHING.

M: I still want my perfect turtleneck and a solid black pair of skinny jeans with no holes. Maybe coated

A: Madewell has the coated jeans again! Also, these:

M: Cute!

A: Love. Do not need.

M: You don’t but they are cute

M: I mean I don’t need jeans except I truly have like one pair of non distressed denim

A: Black jeans are my work trousers these days.

_____

M: I definitely painted my toenails in the Target parking lot this morning so I could wear my new shoes

A: That seems risky

M: Quick dry polish

A: I would have gotten polish all up in that shearling and there would be crying and scissors involved

M: Oh I took them off to paint!

A: I meant when I put them back on

M: Yeah I drove with the air blasting on my bare feet and they were dry when I got to work 😂

A: Living dangerously! But your feet look real cute.

A: I love that you were like, “I don’t know if I’m wearing them out.”

A: *immediately wears them out*

M: Heh

A: Birkenstocks have completely ruined me

M: Same honestly

A: I’m okay with it, I just wish their boots were cuter

M: Me toooo

A: They sorta look cute but when you see the overhead shot, it's a hard no:

M: Yeaaaah no

A: A line has to be drawn somewhere!

We Discuss: Our Fall Shoe Obsessions.

A: You own Vince high top sneaker boot things before, yes?

M: Yes.

A: Do they run big? I am seeing all kinds of conflicting info on the Internets.

M: The ones I have definitely ran big.

A: These:

M: Those are the ones I have an in my experience they ran big.

A: Thanks! I might find a really inexpensive used pair and see if I like them.

A: WAIT. Goddammit, Madewell just sent me an Insider $25 off a $100 purchase.

M: gah

A: Fuckers. They know I want those snakeskin slides:

M: That’s so rude.

A: So incredibly rude.

M: Ugh I just got one TOO

A: THEY ARE SO MEAN WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN, MADEWELL

M: IT’S RUDE

M: THEY ONLY HAVE THESE LEFT IN MY SIZE

A: GIRL IT IS A SIGN

M: ðŸ˜

A: They are so mean, I’m sorry.

M: I feel all panicky.

A: That’s what they want.

M: DAMMIT

A: But those shoes are really cute.

M: I really love them and I checked and I have been talking about animal print mules since LAST fall.

A: Girl!

M: I mean I feel like it’s not an impulse purchase, right.

M: A year!

A: Just gooooo

M: I did.

A: Now I am like, DO I NEED THE SNAKESKIN MULES

M: Maybe???

A: They are not close to sold out but $25 off…

M: Dude I literally got the last pair of mine.

M: Now they say sold out.

A: SEE??? A SIGN.

M: This is my reward for going to the doctor this week.

A: Of course.

M: And not being told I’m dying.

A: Which you’re obviously not.

M: Tell that to my brain.

A: settle down, brain.

M: I am excited about my mules. Those and furry Arizonas are the two shoes on my fall wish list.

A: Yay! Good focus.

A: I still have my mules sitting in my shopping cart.

A: And... I just bought a pair of Vince Newlyn boots on eBay! Fall can start now.

M: Bite your tongue it’s still summer!

A: ILU SUMMER

M: I already feel like it’s going too fast.

We Discuss: Birthday Shopping!

A: Oh man, Madewell just sent me a $25 off Insider code

M: Nice!

A: I am very short on summer dresses, so this is timely

M: Oh I got one too!

A: YAY

M: And it’s 15% cash back on eBates!!

A: FUN TIMES

M: Let’s each share our 5 dress picks from Madewell

A: OK

A: This is what I’ll probably get:

A: This looks really easy and cute:

M: This is not something I would normally gravitate towards but I’ve been wearing some bright, patterned dresses this spring and it feels fresh:

M: Also really cute in a top:

A: Yes!

A: Hm, I'm starting to think Madewell summer dresses are not my style

M: Yeah I can’t find five haha

A: I keep only finding t-shirt dresses I like

M: Speaking of tee dresses:

A: I love that one but it’s $75

A: I love this in theory but white is not happening:

M: I actually LOVE this crazy one but not for $500 American dollars sheesh:

A: That is so youuuuu

A: But fuck that price

A: right in the butt

M: I actually quite like this:

That is also very you!

A: This is also cute:

M: It does not exactly look “swingy” to me MADEWELL

A: I agree with that

M: Oh these are cute!

A: I LOVE the red

M: I like the camel only because I already have red clog sandals

A: Of course

M: I also reallllly like these:

A: Hm. Read the reviews

M: They are really positive--what are you seeing?

A: That they’re wide

M: Hm

A: the reviews aren’t always right!

M: That’s a bummer, mules are hard

A: Most of the reviews are really good

M: They are! My feet are so narrow tho

A: I just bought the dark blue striped t-shirt dress and a grey Whisper Tee for $31 total

M: I want more t-shirts

M: Like a junky

A: I only have the one, so now I will have two

M: Can you use the ENJOY20 code with the $25 off code?

A: I did!

M: wowww

M: I ordered those mules because I’m a glutton for punishment

A: Hopefully they’ll work!

M: I am sure they will be too wide but they were almost sold out so I panicked

A: Well, fingers crossed

M: I’m also trying the Whisper tee in a crewneck stripe! And then I found French Girl lip balm on sale for like $7 so I threw that in too

A: Hooray!

A: Birthday shopping for youuuu!

M: Yas

We Discuss: Going Rogue

M: I went rogue and bought something with NO DISCUSSION and I love it.

A: OH BOY

A: What did you get??

M: Backstory, I have been wanting some kind of drapey trench, not structured, and not in khaki.

M: Kind of an 80’s trench coat I guess, and obviously something I can only wear a few times a year but the heart wants what it wants.

A: I love a good trench coat! I think they’re more versatile than a few times a year.

M: I’ve had my eye on this one for a while and a few days ago it went to 50% and I bought it in the Cedar color, which I have now discovered is very much one of “my” colors, I love it.

A: I can’t even believe you’re wasting energy justifying this purchase! It’s beautiful and the price is amazing.

M: haha

M: I mean it feels a little Golden Girls but I love it and love my outfit today.

A: That seems like a perfectly reasonable thing to buy and you’ll be able to wear it for at least two seasons out of the year.

M: Also that marigold yellow Mango cheetah print dress came and it’s great. Mango might be my new favorite place for dresses.

A: Dammit

M: I shamelessly based my outfit today on this pic:

A: Well, that is just perfect.

M:  I’m wearing lighter wash distressed jeans (the ones I bought on super sale at the empty JCrew with you) Madewell white tee, and my Toms sandals from last year with my new jacket and feel very cute.

A: It sounds perfect and why am I not looking at a picture of you in this outfit.

M: I'll get a pic later, I promise.

A: I will put it on IG when you do.

We Discuss: Overpriced Cotton Dresses

M: It’s still so chilly that I can’t get excited about anything

A: This weather, man.

M: And to top it all off when I do see something that I maybe like it is inevitably $300

M: Like, is this just how it is now?

A: It is when you aren’t buying things from H&M and Target, yeah. I guess.

M: Kind of a bummer

A: It is, but the idea is to have less things, just better things

A: But $300 is no bueno

M: Oh I know, and that’s the goal, but yeah I cannot bring myself to drop that much on one dress

A: No way

M: Especially when they are just floaty cotton summer dresses

A: we should probably have done this “no fast fashion” thing in the winter

M: Oh wait it’s $200 not $300 but still:

M: Yeah summer will be a challenge. But I guess that’s the point

A: It kinda looks like a nightgown

M: Yeah that’s kind of my jam. With clogs

A: Why is that cotton nightgown $200?

M: right??

M: rude

A: It’s pretty but the lightest color is VERY nightgown

M: Oh yes that one def is

M: I think it comes down to the styling

A: Like, don’t wear it with slippers

M: right

M: But THIS is what it should cost:

A: Ooh, I like that

M: ðŸ˜ž

***

M: GODDAMMIT again whyyyyyy are all these floaty cotton dresses $200

A: Oh hell no

M: I mean you know those people in India making them are not getting that money

A: Totally not

M: Their stuff is really pretty tho:

M: But also “free size” on that first one. Come on

A: Oh, fuck off with that

M: ðŸ™„

***

M: I have like 7 dresses from Mango open on my browser right now

A: Heh

M: I could really just GO IN on being that animal print lady:

A: Oh my god I love that print! I wish it was three feet shorter

M: It would be worth hemming but again $130 for a polyester dress

M: hmph

M: But I freaking love the print

M: This is also festive and quite pretty:

A: Nice!

A: I really dig this:

M: And this yellow is My Color and it’s actually freaking COTTON:

A: Oooh

M: Also cotton, and also very Elio’s Mom. Elio’s Mom Season is approaching:

A: That is very nice

M: Another obsessed animal print in my color:

A: That’s cool, just ignore my dress

M: And lastly another Elio’s Mom dress just waiting for huaraches:

M: I had to get that all out of my system!

A: Just bury it up there

M: I saw that dress and it is also cute! I like the sleeve. I personally probably need a little more of a waist because my boobs and ass are so big

A: It was for me, dude

A: That last one is so good

M: It’s also a challenging neckline I think with that high kind of v-neck?

A: NEVER MIND OMG

M: I’m sorry!

A: No, you killed it for me

M: You never know unless you try it though

We Discuss: Springtime Wishful Shopping.

M: I have decided this is cut just like my favorite windowpane plaid Vince shirt that I wear every week and I want all of the colors:

A: Well, thanks a lot. NOW I WANT IT TOO.  Also, that Insider discount...

M: UGH.

M: Anyway, this was meant to be a check in on the fast fashion ban, but so far it hasn't been an issue? I think if spring ever comes it's going to get a lot harder.

A: Madewell isn't fast fashion! I never said anything about not shopping at Madewell.

M: Oh I know! I meant I was going to check in on it but then got distracted. And yeah I have 15% off but it's also 22 degrees today and I'm cranky.

M: I think I want it in black AND in the lilac color. I also want the yellow but it's sold out.

A: Ha, I was like, WHOA WHOA WHOA. I will admit I walk a little faster in Target when I pass by the clothing section.

A: Also, oops. Just bought the dark pink color that's on sale. But I also want it in black.

M: I thought about that color! But I don't know if I'll wear it. I may pull the trigger on the black and lilac.

A: It's 29 degrees out and I literally bought it out of spite. I think the lilac would be SO pretty on you!

A: Also, goddammit, Target:

A: I'm not buying it but it looks so freaking cute.

M: NO NO NO TO THAT DRESS. Here, if it makes you feel better, I recently got rid of two chambray things from Target that got weirdly shiny.

M: I ordered both. I will wear the hell out of those shirts--I already wear my chambray central shirt and I've always wished it was cut a little longer and flowier. Win!

A: Hooray! We'll have to post reviews when they arrive. And no, I know better than to get that dress but now I'm sad I never bought these earrings:

M: I will support you not getting them but will admit I didn't really count jewelry in the fast fashion thing.

M: How pretty is THIS:

A: MARIANNE STOP THAT.

A: …does jewelry count?

M: I don't know! Does it???

A: Technically we make the rules.

M: It seems like a slippery slope but also jewelry is expensive, yo. Having a cheap and cheerful option is nice.

A: I don't buy a ton of jewelry but I do like a pair of fun earrings under $10.

M: I really freaking love that dress.

A: It is SO pretty. If I hadn't just tracked down the leopard version of the Juno dress I'd probably have already bought it!

M: Not sure why a 22 degree day in March has triggered my spring shopping but here we are.

A: Spring will come eventually, right?

We Discuss: Justin Bieber and Scent Memories.

A: I can’t swear to it but I think the Sunday Riley Vitamin C serum is actually working.

M: I’ve heard good things about The Ordinary vitamin C stuff too and it’s so cheap.

M: But the owner is going to destroy that company.

A: Yeaaaah. Down in flames.

A: Most vitamin C serums break me out but the Sunday Riley stuff doesn’t.

M: That’s good!

A: I have a few face oils from the Ordinary and they’re fine.

A: Cheap if nothing else.

M: Yeah

A: I was all excited to buy the RMS Beauty coconut cream and then I was like…wait. Is it really just an overpriced jar of coconut oil?

M: Yes, yes it is.

A: Thank you

A: She claims it’s like, super duper special organic artisan coconut oil but still. It’s just oil that I’m gonna wash right off my face.

M: IT”S COCONUT OIL.

A: Right, I know.

M: There is only so much you can do to it.

A: But Marianne, it’s special *raw* coconut oil.

M: riiiight

M: If anyone believes that, I have a bridge to sell them.

A: I am actually in the market.

M: It’s got great views.

A: Will it give me a glowing complexion?

M: duh

A: Anyway, I am actually almost 100% positive that this Sunday Riley stuff is making my face look better. Just smoother and more…something. Brighter?

M: That’s awesome.

A: Has the Ordinary guy done anything stupid lately?

M: I haven’t been keeping up tbh.

M: There was some crazy letter after the royal wedding.

A: He’s a peach.

A: Ooh, my Le Labo Santal 33 sample has shipped.

M: Yay!

A: I don’t want to copy you and everyone but I HAVE TO KNOW

M: Hahaha

A: I love that all the articles about it are like, “That perfume you’re smelling everywhere!” And I’m like, do you understand I live in Virginia?

A: But I HAVE TO KNOW.

M: Well even here in Knoxville I’ve had a few people ID it immediately.

M: Which is a bit of a drag but I love it so whatever I guess.

A: Interesting! I am usually up on this stuff but had somehow never heard of it.

M: It is literally all over Brooklyn.

A: Some things are popular for a reason.

M: Like every single man and woman wearing it.

A: That’s so funny. WE ARE ALL INDIVIDUAL TOGETHER.

M: And I’m like how are all these children affording $200 perfume.

A: That was a question I had as well.

A: But I’m an idiot who paid money for a decanted sample so.

M: Ha, that’s what I did first!

A: I got the idea from you.

A: So, your fault.

M: Now I have a bottle but I honestly wish I had just gotten the balm oil rollerball because a rollerball is so much easier to carry with me.

M: I only remember to spray it on myself half the time so I decanted a bit of my own bottle into a rollerball.

A: Smart! If I love it I’ll probably start with a rollerball. I have commitment issues with fragrance.

M: I get that. I mean I just spent like a year trying to find a signature scent and it’s apparently everyones signature scent.

A: Justin Bieber wears it.

A: I am sorry.

M: Haha that’s okay.

M: I bet he smells great!

A: Bieber has notes of tattoo ink, privilege, crisp Canadian dollars and Santal 33.

M: My boss texted me from Atlanta where she was seeing Hamilton and was like someone here smells like you!!

A: Ha!

M: Honestly I don’t care.

M: I love the way it smells and I love being told literally every day that I smell amazing.

A: That is a LIFE GOAL.

A: I’m sure millions of people wear my favorite Jo Malone perfume - it’s not a secret.

M: Exactly! So I will wear it forever and there will be other trends and eventually it will be Mine.

A: You just need to wait it out.

M: And my kids will be like my mom always smelled amazing when I am very old and die.

M: It’s good to have long term plans.

A: I really like that you’re planning your scent memories now.

M: Better to focus on that rather than the world going down in flames.

A: So true.

We Discuss: Pants Based Facts.

Disclosure: I get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.

M: The Everlane wide leg crop pants came! I don't hate them. As predicted, I don't think I know what tops to wear with them. They are Advanced but very comfortable. They would be 100% more flattering with the pockets sewn shut but I also liked putting my hands in there. Hmmm. I do like that they are a totally new silhouette for me.

A: I require photos!

M: SIGH PANTS ARE HARD. YOU READY?

A: LET'S DO THISSSSS TBH

Note: while we acknowledge that the pictures aren't great, we felt it was Important Fashion Journalism and we should still use them because Pants Based Facts should be known.

M: First. They are SUPER comfortable and I want them to be awesome because I feel like I'm being Fashion.

M: Untucked looks sloppy. So I tried styling how I saw somewhere with a denim shirt over a tucked tee:

M: Which is better! Breaks up the lines. But like, is the only way it looks half decent.

A: I feel like pants shouldn't be this hard. That looks cute, tho.

M: This is the ochre pair which is a size smaller and pulls at the pockets, has a muffin top:

M: Also cuter with top and is maybe a half inch shorter which is better:

A: Hmm. Those don't fit.

M: But see this is how everyone says they need to fit because of stretching.

A: Nothing pisses me off more than pants that stretch out but...

M: BUT then I needed to pull together a casual creative professional outfit for a shoot tomorrow and I'm like why am I bothering with wide pants:

A: Oh! Nice!

M: Those are the Everlane ponte pants btw which I forgot I bought and have never worn and they are nice.

A: That is 800 times more flattering.

M: I knooooooow

A: And oooh, now I want them pants.

M: I'm also like remember when we first got skinny jeans?

A: I know, I know.

M: I could barely look at myself in them and now!

A: I like the idea of wide pants but they seem so hard to wear. Like, it's the opposite of how I dress.

M: I know. And my lower legs are literally the thinnest part of me besides my wrists.

A: You have great legs.

A: Tell me more about the ponte pants, pls.

M: The pants are nice! Heavy, they don't show every little lump, nicely cut.

A: I need new black pants. The muffin top with my BR pair is making me mad.

M: The top of these could be slightly more flattering but I'd never wear them with anything but a flowy-ish top.

A: Yeah, I won't be doing any tucking.

M: But I put them on and was like oh hey these aren't half bad! These are the ones:

A: I want those pls.

M: Unrelated, this is cute:

A: Yaassss

M: Too bad I'm only going to be able to fit in sacks this fall.

A: Me too. Thankfully, Everlane has that covered.

M: Lol

A: Exhibit A:

M: Now you're talking.

A: Exhibit B:

M: That's just a big ole shirt.

A: Yup, a big ole sack shirt dress. I do enjoy a sack.

M: Embrace it.

A: Caftans are the best.

M: Ugh so good.

A: We should just go Full Caftan.

M: Golden Girls that shit.

A: So, new life plan.

M: See?
