Adrien: An Unfortunate Outfit and Lulu Frost for J.Crew Review.

I had this Ann Taylor sweater hanging in my closet for a while and finally decided to start wearing it. I think it works pretty well with skinny jeans but I wanted to do something a bit more work-appropriate so I tried it with my trouser jeans. I thought it looked okay until I saw the photographs and... yeah, maybe too much volume overall?

I'm hoping this is the kind of thing that just doesn't photograph well, or maybe I should've looked in the mirror first. Something. I really like a long, asymmetrical sweater in theory, though maybe something more weighty like this one or a little more fitted like this.

And just because I love you, I want to show you one of the more horrifying shots. I am not sure what's happening here but it is ALL BAD:

Not a good look right there. But, I'm wearing my awesome DVF coat (we all need a cute purple coat, yes?) and carrying my raspberry MBMJ Hillier Hobo which I kind of love together.

My boots are hard to see but they're Vince Camuto "Hadley", my answer to the Rag & Bone boots I can't afford.

And here's the Lulu Frost for J.Crew necklace. My first impression was great - it's beautiful, interesting and HUGE. Exactly the kind of statement necklace I like - something you can throw on with a really simple outfit and have it be the focus. But this necklace, which retailed for $138, is basically crap. It was a little hard to photograph but if you look closely you can see that the prongs in the middle are missing stones. I've worn it twice and it's already missing three stones! I should probably try to return it (I got it deeply discounted and it was a final sale) but it's completely sold out and other than it being defective, I really dig it. I shake my fist at you both, Lulu Frost and J.Crew.

Did anyone else buy this? Did your stones all fall out too?

  1. With longer sweaters and tops, I think it helps to have a little cleavage going on. I think the neckline with the kinda bulky look isn't doing you any favors. It's taking away your lovely curves!

  2. Yeah, it's a little too saggy-baggy. I know you love your necklace but it is clearly bunching up the excess fabric of the top (both are perfectly attractive items on their own). If you put your hair up and wore some statement earrings instead, that would counter the overall bedraggled effect.

  3. I think maybe it's too big on you? I don't know...but you are right it's just not quite working on you. You look one million times better than I would if I attempted it, though.

  4. BELT.

(As in, you have a lovely, thin, tapered waist. The above is not a physical threat.)
