Marianne: I'm trying.

I have been saying for a while now that I wanted to wear more skirts, and so when I went shopping last week I had a rule: I was only allowed to buy work appropriate skirts and dresses. And with those strictures in place, I walked away with 4 skirts and 2 dresses. The dresses were a cinch to wear, but I'm already faltering with the skirts. This one is my favorite, a really gorgeous tie-dye/ombre Theory skirt. After trying on three previous options I landed on this beige stripe tee, but I'm not convinced this was the way to go. It's a little loose (I bought it to wear with skinny jeans), and maybe the stripes are too much? Help me learn how to wear skirts, people. I am special.

P.S. It's hot as heck, so why not head over to the shop and pick up some new shorts and skirts?

  1. That skirt is a tough one for an experienced skirt-wearer! I'd go with a simple lavender, white or cream (it's looks like either might work)and a bit more fitted top. I think it would look awesome with a scarf. That might be a way to pull in another print with a purply, lavender or creamy and white scarf!

  2. I have SO much trouble with skirts, too! I just never know what to wear with them, and usually settle on a simple tank top with a cardigan, or just a plain, fitted tee.

  3. OMG I am in love with that skirt! I like your top pairing but also think an ivory or lavender tank would be pretty.

  4. Ooooh, I love everything about this! The top was a perfect choice to go with that lovely skirt.

  5. Beautiful skirt! I think you'd also look good in a skirt that is a bit longer and lands just below your knees.

  6. I love the skirt, but would wear a form fitting solid shirt, pale pink, cream or matching dark purple. I love the scarf idea, but the beige makes me want to make snarky comments.

  7. A more fitted white top.

I have a few basic white & black tees that are a bit snug and terribly unflattering on the tummy but I only wear them tucked into fuller skirts so no one is the wiser!

  8. I would wear it with a little white t-shirt with cap sleeves, or a sleeveless top, or a top in the same colour as the bow. It is beautiful! I want it!!!

  9. I agree it's such a beautiful skirt. I recently changed my way of dressing. From wearing jeans and yoga pants to skirts at dresses! Guaranteed compliments each morning.

The skirt is busy, and bold by itself and you'd want that to be the main attraction. I'm amazed how skirts can hide my tummy! I'd tuck in a plain solid slightly fitted shirt under the shirt.

Use the colorwheel to match complimentary colors and this would look cute with a solid black shirt! And black flats/heels to match with a cute long pearl (ivory) necklace. I want that skirt!
