Outfit of the Day: New and Old Favorites.

Hello! Go vote. I'll wait. Now that's done, here's the Lucky Brand Bowie tee that is my new favorite thing in my closet:

Obviously my closet is not getting any more work-appropriate any time soon, but I really love this tee! It's got a great broken-in feel and is really fun to layer under jackets because it gives you a little bit of shine and interest without being too blingy. Plus, Bowie. 

My jeans are my usual pair of Madewell Perfect Vintage and I love the higher rise for tucking in a fun t-shirt. I was pretty excited to see that Madewell now has a Perfect Vintage flair jean and will definitely be trying those on the next time I'm in the store. I also have my eye on this pair of boyjeans. I'm also wearing my M.Gemi shearling clogs because now is the time! They're currently sold out of my exact style but this pair at Madewell also look quite cozy. Quick detail shot of my Bowie tee: 

The little studs on it aren't too shiny, just a little bit. I think it's really a cool effect and I hope it holds up after washing. (For delicate stuff: lingerie bag, always cool water, never in the dryer! Be nice to your things.) Now, it's time for a jacket: 

I impulse-bought this Vuori military jacket last fall because once I tried it on I couldn't not have it. It's the perfect lightweight layer: it has a hood, the fit is structured but comfortable, and I love the color. It's still available and on sale to boot! I'm wearing a medium and would say it's true-to-size. Also, in exploring the Vuori site I found this excellent raincoat and I want it so badly it's hurting my feelings. Sigh. Anyway, here's a closer look: 

 Such a good jacket! My bag is of course my quilted Rebecca Minkoff love bag which I'm still enjoying. The updated chevron version is on sale at Zappos. That's all I've got for today but my next outfit will feature my Quince batwing sweater which is quite a thing. Stay tuned.

Outfit of the Day: Also, There's This.

The great thing about working fully remote is that I can wear jeans and a band tee all day. The bad thing about working fully remote is that I wear jeans and a band tee all day. But it feels pretty "me" don't you think? 

I bought this amazing metallic Bowie tee on Poshmark not realizing it was slightly cropped, but it works great with my high-rise jeans! It's by Chaser, who I love for fun tees, and I've been wearing it A LOT BECAUSE I AM A CHILD AND I WORK FRoM hOmE. I have a lot of Bowie tees, but this is my current favorite. It's basically sold out online, but there are a bunch on eBay and Posh. I also LOVE this Bowie tee by Lucky and there's no end to fun band tees and sweatshirts. 

My jeans are Madewell Perfect Vintage which are a great non-skinny cut. This is probably the most similar current style (with some excellent distressing) but I love this blue wash. ALSO, they come in a mid-rise style! Be still my heart. I'm obviously wearing my silver Birkenstocks because they go with my t-shirt. Duh. And oh, hey, there's this: 

Listen, I know. I have been on a bag tear lately but I stalked this secondhand forEVER and was finally made an offer I couldn't refuse. This is the Hammitt VIP bag in large. I had been eyeing the gold hardware version in medium for a long time  but in the end I got the large with gunmetal hardware and I adore it. The size is perfect for an everyday crossbody and the leather! It's mooshy and luxe and the bag is lined in the softest red suede! My only quibble is that the strap feels pretty thin. It's not a big deal, but I'll probably replace it with wider version at some point.

Final detail, I'm wearing my Gorjana Parker necklace with a labradorite charm and I love how it looks worn a little off-center. I mean, of course I do. 

Outfit of the Day: Trader Joe's Fun-Casual.

As we've discussed, sometimes I dress up to go to the grocery store because where else am I going to go? And for me, sometimes dressing up actually means dressing down but in a fun way. It's like an invite to a wedding with a really confusing dress code: Trader Joe's Fun-Casual! 

Anyway, it's been too cold and rainy lately to wear anything fun but we finally got a few warm days and I went for it:

Yay! I finally got the buckle replaced on my Veda Jayne leather jacket and couldn't wait to wear it. Definitely an improvement. I bought my jacket on eBay but for something similar, you cannot go wrong with the AllSaints Balfern and I also found this lovely number by SOIA & KYO. For a faux leather option, this one is cute! 

My jeans are an older pair of my favorite Madewell Slim Boyjean! I prefer the mid rise version over the high rise, but both are good! It's just a personal preference. You can't really see my most excellent t-shirt so here you go:

Yes! This was a fantastic gift from Marianne and it's by Letluv who also made my thermal lightning bolt tee. They are expensive, but I have been really happy with the quality of both. I have my eye on this sweatshirt and also love this Stones tee. And, if you're looking for a Bowie tee, Chaser does a nice job as well. 

More details! I added a very soft plaid scarf I got for my birthday and I'm wearing my red Everlane Day Glove flats, which I like more than I want to admit. Madewell also has a similar pair!  And, finally, I'm  carrying my old faithful Marc Jacobs hobo (similar style.) I've had this bag for five years! It's such a reliable friend. Aww. 

Outfit of the Day: I Wish I Had Better News.

Honestly, I would love to give y'all an outfit that's innovative and fresh and doesn't involve t-shirts and shorts. I would love that! But today's post is...not that. I wish I had better news:

Hey, look! T-shirt and shorts. Now, the shorts are Athleta (via Poshmark) and they're last year's version of the Tribeca 9" Bermuda shorts. They aren't quite my usual thing but I really love them. They're super light weight, have lots of pockets and are definitely a step up from my usual distressed denim cut-offs. They have a 9" inseam but the leg is tapers which somehow saves them from looking too frumpy. My t-shirt is a Madewell whisper tee and I have it in several colors. It's currently my favorite everyday tee. 

My Tribeca shorts have a sleek tuxedo stripe down the side which basically makes them formal wear. Right? Totally. Details:  

I'm sorry, did you not want a closeup of my rumpled t-shirt? TOO BAD. I am wearing my tiny compass necklace (very similar to this one by Gorjana) and my favorite Dean Davidson labradorite tassel (which is sold out but oooh, these earrings.) Now, wanna see another good thing I bought recently? 

Oh yeah! Aladdin Sane Bowie tee. Now, I know I have a Bowie tee PROBLEM. But this one is totally different from the others and it is just so good, I couldn't help myself. It's a men's cut and I'm wearing a medium if you're tempted. (It looks really cute if you roll the sleeves which I forgot to do because who wants to look cute on a personal style blog? Apparently not me.) Anyway, let's get real. This is how I'm actually wearing this:

What, you thought you wouldn't be seeing my favorite pair of Joe's denim cutoffs this week? Ha! 

You would be wrong! I am a mess. These shorts are still my #1 favorite and will be until they die, which might be soon, judging from how often I'm wearing them. They're nearly gone but there's also this pair of Joe's that just showed up on NR and look quite similarly wrecked. Anyway, I'm also wearing my metallic Birkenstock Gizeh sandals so that's something fancy I guess. Until next week!

WFH Outfit of the Day: About What You'd Expect.

Okay, before I start can I just say how great y'all are? The comments yesterday completely made my day. Every single one of you is my favorite right now, so THANK YOU. We shall continue on with a focus on where we are right now. For example: here's what I'm wearing at home:

Yeaahhhh. I didn't promise it would be exciting so this is what it is. I am wearing my sad old David Bowie sweatshirt that I will wear until it falls off me. It's by Daydreamer who makes lots of cool (and overpriced) band tees. This Bowie tee by Lucky Brand has a very similar vibe (oops, bought it) and this amazing Athleta sweatshirt is not Daydreamer or Bowie but I own it and it's SO soft and is 25% off. I wore it in a Zoom meeting yesterday so it's also totally work-appropriate. Heh. Now, my pants:

These are the Headland Hybrid Moto Tights from Athleta (25% off everything right now!) and I've been switching back and forth between these and the cargo version pretty much every day. They have more substantial material on the front and the back is stretchy yoga-tights action. I LOVE THEM. So comfy but also cute and look like real pants, kinda? Highly recommend for a WFH situation in which you want to feel like you're wearing real clothes but also want to be comfortable. My sneakers are by York Athletics and they're pretty cool but I still look like a dork in sneakers. I don't know how people do it. 

Yeah, sorry, I couldn't take it and tried this outfit with my Cole Haan Chelsea boots and OMG IT IS SO MUCH BETTER. I'm also fake-carrying my new Madewell camera bag which barely got to see the light of day before the lockdown. Poor little bag, maybe I'll use it to carry around my secret work snacks*.  Details: 

Look how sad this sweatshirt is! Poor thing. My little wings necklace is by My Precious Studio and my long pendant is from Pyrrha Jewelry. I'm also wearing thin silver wire earrings that are hard to see, but they're similar to this pair. 

Look at that snack-holder! So cute. I am hoping it'll become my best summer bag. One day.

Outfit Of The Day: Never Look Back, Walk Tall, Act Fine.

If you've been reading this blog for any amount of time you know about my thing for David Bowie and you also know that I have quite a collection of Bowie tees and also a sweatshirt. (Whenever I wear that sweatshirt out in the world I get wistful, sad smiles from other women. It's lovely and a little off-putting.) 

ANYWAY, I am a super fan and I'm always looking for my next t-shirt fix. When I saw this one at Anthro I was immediately all, OUTTA MY WAY LET'S DO THIS. (I get that this isn't precisely a Bowie shirt but y'all. It is totally a Bowie shirt.) Then I looked at the price tag and was like, NOPE. Fuck you, Anthro. I decided I'd wait for a sale. 

Then my birthday came along with a discount and a gift card and I bought the lightning bolt tee so fast it was silly that I even thought I wouldn't. It's SO GOOD. A nice heavyweight waffle tee with an oversized fit (I'm wearing a small) and, bonus, it's keeping me from wanting this ridiculous thing. The brand is Letluv and they also make an over-priced Ramones tee that I want but I'm not sure how I feel about buying a Ramones tee from Anthro, you know? The Blondie sweatshirt is also cute, though? I am conflicted. 

Here it is tucked in like a GD adult. I'm wearing my awesome tee with my very, very old Target moto jeggings because I saw Marianne wearing them the other day and was like, oh, right. I have those too. I was pretty sure they wouldn't fit but they're 90% stretch so I just went with it. I definitely would like an upgrade on these, though. I've got my eye on this pair from Athleta or maybe these jeans from Sanctuary?  On to details:

The lightning bolt is quite the star of this show so I kept things simple with my little Pyrrha Jewelry pendant. I'm also wearing my Madewell Perfect belt which is not. 

My Longchamp le pliage bag has been getting a lot of use lately! I love that it's lightweight and holds a surprising amount. The nicer nylon version is available here in red and there's a different red available here in leather. My sneaker boots are Vince and they're on sale over at Off 5th! A nice change from my usual Chelsea boots. That's all I got for today but be certain you will see this shirt on the blog quite a lot in the future. Sorry/not sorry.

Review: Madewell High-Rise Denim Shorts.

Hi all! I don't really have any good shopping to report but I did get my Madewell High-Rise Denim Shorts in Glenoaks wash and took some pics. I have...feelings. I like so much about them but I'm not 100%. I think I just had really high expectations and, as Marianne texted, "I don't think they are magical but also don't know if that exists." EXACTLY. I was putting a lot of weight on a pair of damn denim shorts. Anyway, here you go:

The shorts arrived with the hem rolled which makes them just a little bit shorter than I prefer. It's a lot of rise and not quite enough inseam. But! They are quite nice in general - good denim and an excellent wash. I rolled them down and even though they aren't quite as cute that way, I'm much more comfortable: 

I will admit I was wrong about avoiding the higher rise shorts. The rise looks super current and the magic pockets really do pull everything in, which I very much appreciate. They're also quite booty flattering: 

Most denim cut-offs don't do much for the rear view, but these are pretty good! Unfortunately these particular shorts are not on sale right this second so I'd wait until they're marked down again. In the meantime, this pair is on sale (and an extra 20% off) and so is this cute embroidered pair. And my favorite jeans as well! 

So, I think I'm keeping them. They're a solid, if not terribly exciting, summer staple and I'm sure I'll be wearing them for quite a few summers. 

And, because I can't not tell you about everything, my Bowie tee is by Lucky Brand and appears to be sold out. This one is very similar and REAL CUTE. (How many Bowie tees is too many? Asking for a friend.) Lucky Brand always has good vintage-inspired band tees that aren't too expensive or too OOT. Finally, I'm wearing my white Birkenstock Arizonas because they go with all the things. The end! 

Outfit of the Day: Lazy Summer.

It's that wonderful time again when everything falls apart and I start dressing like a teenager. I love summer, you guys. I think I've posted a similar outfit every year but this one is pretty dirtbag and I'm not even sorry:

Yay summer! I have a fairly extensive collection of Bowie tees and this is the most recent which I picked up at the exhibit in Brooklyn. It appears to be sold out but this one by Chaser (which I also have) is on sale and there are always a few at Nordstrom Rack, for some reason. My current wishlist Bowie tee is this one from Lucky Brand who always has a great selection of vintage-y band tees and if you want a non-band graphic tee, I think J.Crew does a great job. Mostly I just like a cool graphic tee! 

I still haven't gotten around to buying a new pair of cut-off shorts so I'm wearing last year's pair from Old Navy. I'd say this pair is this year's version. They're still good though I do wish they had a bit more length. I recently saw this pair at Loft and they looked perfect but they didn't have my size in stock. Boo. I am mostly just waiting for Madewell to put these on sale so I can buy them before summer is actually over. Details:

I'm wearing my little Miansai hook necklace which I'm sure y'all are sick of hearing about. It's really petite and perfect when you want just a little something interesting around your neck. I think it looks best when layered which I should demonstrate or something. Bad blogger. I am also wearing that Felina lace bralette thing I told y'all about and it's great! Definitely a bralette for those who can't usually wear them. (You can also get them in a 2-pack at Amazon or Costco, just FYI.)

Bag and sandals! My bag is a MBMJ Percy which I got for a steal on Poshmark. It's tiny but I can fit a surprising amount in it and it doesn't get in my way. NR currently has a bunch of MJ crossbody bags at decent prices in case you're looking.

I've pretty much only been wearing Birkenstocks this summer. These are my Gizehs in copper which I loved best until I got my silver Arizonas. I really can't recommend a fun metallic Birkenstock enough. The best of both worlds.

Adrien: Bowie Night Outfit.

Last Saturday night I went to a Bowie night with the symphony event with my sister, who'd bought tickets for my birthday. (Thanks, girl!) Since I already have the awesome gold boots, I thought I'd put together a Bowie-appropriate outfit. I had a really good time with this: 

I bought this Bowie tee a few years ago but I don't think I've ever worn it on the blog, which surprises me. I can't even remember what brand it is, but there are tons of cute Bowie tees available right now. This one at Zulily is very cool (and very inexpensive) and this one by MadeWorn is very cool (and very expensive.) I also like this Junk Food tank a whole lot and this one by Chaser! And I love this slightly odd and very literal tee by Daydreamer. I want all the Bowie tees, really. And ha, American Eagle has a Ramones shirt. Okay. That is a thing. 

Here's a better look. Awesome. I'm wearing my beloved and ancient Gap tuxedo jacket over it and I am forever looking for a decent replacement because it's on it's last legs. This BCBG Generation blazer comes close, but I want lapels. That's why I'm keeping an eye on this J.Crew version even though I worry it might be too cropped. Still, it fits the bill. So does this one by Veronica Beard (sans dickey.) My jeans are Madewell coated skinny skinny which I hope they bring back because I love them. 

I didn't get a decent photo of it but y'all have seen my MBMJ hobo eleventy million times, so I figured I'd skip it. But, if you're looking for one, this eBay auction is not a bad price for NWT. This blue version is also a good deal*! (If you have a Nordstrom Rack nearby, a reader recently pointed out that the deals on MBMJ are really good right now.) On to details:

When you have a giant picture of David Bowie on your chest, you don't need much else. I did wear my Alexis Bittar cocktail ring which falls somewhere between this one and this one for similarities. My little enamel Aladdin Sane lightning bolt pin is from DRPD Pin but is totally sold out. This Etsy shop has a nice looking version and oooh, a silver version. (I will make Bowie fans of you yet! Try to resist.) My silver wire earrings, which you can barely see in the second picture, are a pair I've had for years, a gift from Kate. They are basically identical to this pair. 

These boots. The best $45 I've spent this year. They are SO MUCH FUN and they'd look really cute on you. You should get a pair. Lucky for you 6pm has them for $74.99 which is totally still a fair price for awesome gold boots. Yay! Boots for everyone.

Adrien: Not Very Scary.

Happy Halloween! This is not a Halloween outfit but I guess it's a costume in that it's my basic weekend uniform. So, sure. This is an Adrien Running Errands costume:

Im wearing my favorite super-slouchy Bowie tee by Daydreamer, maker of super-slouchy thin awesome band tees and also some weird stuff I'd never wear. This one is a pretty good Bowie tee and I also like this super-destroyed Ramones tee. (Am I too old to pull that off? Probably.) Also, since I'm talking about DB stuff, this Bowie print button down shirt is not something I would wear but I love that it exists in the world. And! Kate Moss is killing me. And, I want this bracelet even though it's mostly string. I'm a sucker. 

My jeans are my very awesome Fidelity Sola skinnies in Coronado wash. I haven't spent this much on jeans in a long time but I'm so happy I sucked it up and bought these. They're just really good quality and don't stretch out at all. This pair of Fidelity straight legs is on sale and I am REALLY tempted but I do not need jeans. I do not need jeans. I do NOT NEED JEANS.

I needed a layer so I added my much loved Downtown Field jacket. It's actually really good for grocery shopping because you can put your list in one pocket and your phone in the other and everything is right there for you! I've mentioned this before, but J.Crew Factory has a navy version that's slightly longer and has a hood. Super cute, too. And there's a quilted version! (Both an extra 31% off until 3pm!) On to details: 

I'm wearing my amazing little silver wings necklace from My Precious Studio and a leather cuff bracelet from Fisticuffs leather. Both handmade! My bag is a Cambridge Satchel Co. twist lock bag in oxblood.  It's a great little bag for running around when you want to be hands-free and not carry a lot of stuff. Plus, it looks cool. Marianne's Large Push Lock also comes in the oxblood color and it's about the same size. 

Finally, new Lucky Brand booties are getting a ton of love from me lately. So comfortable and walkable, I can't recommend them enough! Also, just FYI, 6pm has the bisque color marked down below $90, though the sizing is limited. I also kind of love the olive suede version. Hmm. Boots.

A few days before I left for Knoxville I spent a lunch break fruitlessly searching for one of my Holy Grail items. I wanted a Bowie tee, but not just any tee. Basically, I wanted this one but not so expensive and not cashmere blend (wut) and not quite so distressed. I wanted it to look worn in and the graphics had to be well done, not like this $160 crap. (How did that happen?) I also wanted it to be cut for a woman and either black or grey. DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD THIS IS. It's hard. Then two days later Marianne plucked it off a rack at TJ Maxx and handed it to me all casual-like: 

It's now my favorite t-shirt. It's really, really thin and I have to be careful because I think it's made from tissue paper, but man, I love this shirt. The brand is Daydreamer and they make all kinds of cool drapey graphic tees. I personally love this Ramones tee and, heh, I wouldn't mind having this Nope tee either. They also do a decent T. Rex. I approve. 

I get a little obsessed with making it the perfect amount of careless-slouchy which was captured here:

WTF am I doing with my face? I don't even know. I'm wearing my HG tee with distressed cut off shorts from Old Navy. My particular pair has sold out but these are pretty cute and this pair at Madewell is basically perfect. And ooh, how cute is this denim skirt?  Let us carry on to details:

My awesome little silver wings necklace was made by my friend Tere of My Precious Studio. Highly recommend. I'm also wearing my Cluse La Bohème watch and a Giles and Brother skinny railroad spike bracelet. The fancier encrusted version is on sale! 

This little snakeskin crossbody bag from Old Navy has been great this summer. It's inexpensive, lightweight and cute as hell. If snakeskin isn't for you it also comes in a few neutral colors and in silver! Damn, the silver version is really cute. My shoes are Lotta From Stockholm peep toes and I love the having a little red to echo the Bowie graphic on my t-shirt. These shoes also come in silver in case you were wondering. Aren't I helpful?
