Outfit of the Day: Wear Your Favorite Things!

This is one of those outfit that wasn't really planned, I just put on some of my favorite things and thought it looked cute, so I took some photos. No new items, just some goods stuff from this summer and last summer:

This is the Manzilla top by Apiece Apart which I rented last summer (unsurprisingly similar outfit here) and absolutely loved it. At the time RTR was asking too much to buy it so I searched Poshmark with no luck. Eventually Marianne took over and found it for me on Alys Grace. It's basically the perfect floaty summer top and I wear it a lot, so sometimes it's worth hunting down something you love and buying it even if it's more than you usually spend. It's impossible to find anything really similar (well, there's this beauty in XS), but this pretty top has a similar shape and this one at Nordstrom also looks like it would be fun and floaty to wear. Also from Apiece Apart, how beautiful is this top?

I've tried tucking this top in but I honestly think it looks better untucked - it's meant to be free! I'm wearing it with an old pair of Madewell Cali Demi Boot jeans that I love because the raw hem looks so cute with sandals. I'd say this pair is probably the closest in style to mine, though this pair by DL1961 is awfully good too.

I meant it about having a red bag! It's just what works best with this kind of outfit. Mine is Rebecca Minkoff and it was another rental that I eventually purchased. Here's a similar Minkoff bag at a great price and here's a REALLY cute option under $50! On to details:

I'm keeping the jewelry minimal with this kind of detailed neckline and just wearing my little beaded Gorjana necklace. It's sold out, but how cute is this new little charm necklace

And finally, my summer 2022 Birks - the Arizona Split. I will admit that the vegan footbed on these is not as comfortable as the leather version but they're still Birks so still more comfortable than most shoes. I get a ton of compliments on these! They're my "fancy" Birkenstocks. Yep. I'm tempted by this leather version which is on sale (more sizes here), but maybe for next year?

My All-Time Favorites from Athleta.

I know I talk about it a lot, but a good chunk of my wardrobe is from Athleta. They make great options for workout and work-from-home (there's a lot of cross-over tbh) as well as the absolute best pants for travel. Here is a short list of my very favorite pieces, including one new purchase:

I've talked about (and worn) my Brooklyn Ankle Pants a ton. They're just a great, comfortable and lightweight option that are totally bullet-proof. They're washable, dry lightning fast and never need an iron. The Brooklyn are my #1 travel pants in warm months! I posted about them most recently here

The Athleta Triumph Hoodie is a bit of an investment but it is WORTH IT. I have two and they are so well-made and comfortable and come in all kinds of good colors and patterns. Plus, you get sizable pockets, a warm collar, thumbholes, and a nice deep hood. I reviewed my leopard version here

Ah, the Rainier tight. If you spend any time outside in the colder months, you should consider a pair. They're brushed inside for coziness and have secure zip pockets. I have a pair of the reflective version and they are super bright when light hits them! (Outdoor walkers/runnings, these are what you need.) I reviewed my pair here

My favorite cozy around-the-house sweatshirt isn't on the site anymore but this Balance Pullover looks to be it's replacement. They do such a nice job with the elevated sweatshirt and I love the blue camo version. I reviewed mine here

This is the Ultimate Train Tank and it's as close to perfection as you can get. It's high-necked, which is crucial, and just the right amount of loose-and-breezy without flapping around and getting in the way. I am mad because I missed it in the bright blue! Dang it.

I own and love the regular Chelsea Cargo pants (reviewed here but not currently available) and was super delighted when I realized there was a new lined version! I ordered a pair and they are PERFECT. Warm and cozy without being bulky and lots of good pockets. I'm going on a trip soon that involves a really long flight, so these will be ideal since they look cute but feel like pajamas. I'll post an outfit this week!

Finally, even though this is stupid and boring, I still think Athleta makes the best everyday cloth mask. I have two sets of the color set above and they wash really well and still look like new. I love that they're adjustable and aren't overly large. I bought my first set early in the pandemic and they're still going strong though if I'm being honest, I can't wait to burn them on a ceremonial bonfire.

Outfit of the Day: Old Summer Favorites.

Sometimes pulling out your summer clothes is depressing (Hi, stack of clothes that don't fit anymore) but sometimes you find a favorite thing you totally forgot about:

Oh my god, this t-shirt you guys. I bought this slub cotton Wilt tee off the sale rack at Saks back in the Before Times sort of by accident. I'd grabbed it to have something neutral to try on under the cardigan I really wanted and was like, "Damn, maybe there's something to this expensive t-shirt thing." I had no idea it would soon become my favorite summer tee of all time.

I mean, mostly I think a tee is a tee but this one is special - something about the high-low cut just makes it super easy to wear and it's flattering and SO soft. It's long gone in the ombre version but you can still buy an updated version in a bunch of colors and I love this asymmetric style in grey. For a similar ombre flair, this pink ombre tank is awfully cute and this ombre tee is by one of my favorite brands for t-shirts.

My shorts are by Joe's Jeans and they're still available at Zappos but those J.Crew shorts are FINALLY on sale. Should I do eeet?

Still carrying my Lo & Sons Pearl bag more than any other. The webbing strap is from Madewell. But you guys, I'm thinking about maybe getting one of these belt bags? Or maybe something sporty like this that can also be worn crossbody? (I am not going to call it a fanny pack, please stop it.) And, obviously I'm wearing silver Birkenstocks because always.

And, as always, wearing a necklace that you can't buy anywhere (similar-ish here) but the earrings that match are very nice. Sorry, I'm the worst. Byee!

Adrien: Favorite Style Purchases of 2019.

Every year I do a round-up of favorite purchases from the previous year and I was happy to discover that I didn't buy many duds last year. I am definitely better about planning out my purchases and buying nicer things that really suit me. Almost all of my favorites from 2019 were planned purchases that I researched and bought deliberately. Here are my top favorites from 2019:

Miu Miu Bag
This bag! I stalked it for months. The price went up, the price went down. The price went back up, the price went way down. Holy shit, Barneys, what a ride. I saved my dollars and the next time they dropped the price, I pounced. It was more than I usually spend on a bag but it was WORTH IT. I carry it a lot and it still looks brand new. It's also just so satisfying - the leather is so nice and the hardware is shiny and weighty and it's comfortable to carry. I am a fan. (Review post here.)

Dean Davidson Bamboo Tassel Pendant Necklace
Y'all this is such a great piece of jewelry. It's beautiful, it's fun to play with, it gets me compliments all the time. Unfortunately it's sold out but this one is also very beautiful and definitely will not disappoint. Dean Davidson is expensive but so worth it. (Outfit post here.)

Everlane Cashmere V-Neck
I have three Everlane cashmere v-neck sweaters and I wear them ALL THE TIME. The one I bought this year in loden is the best of the bunch - the color, a grey-olive, goes with everything and it's warm and soft and always looks good. I am a big fan. (My review post is here.)

All The Birkenstocks
I bought two pairs this year: white Arizona sandals and shearling-lined Boston clogs. Both have been great - I wore my white sandals all summer long and the clogs are my cozy around-the-house shoes (as well as my "I'm just going to yoga shoes" and occasionally my, "I'm just going to Target or whatever shoes stop judging me.") My feet love them and I hope the current Birkenstock fashion moment lasts FOREVER.

Ray-Ban Wayfarer Meteor
These have been such a fun purchase. Amusingly, I posted several pairs on IG when trying to decide which style to buy and nobody picked the Meteor. And yet? They were the pair IRL that my bestie said was the bomb. I bought them, loved them, and wore them daily. And then! A waitress STOLE THEM when I accidentally left them on her table in a restaurant. I went back five minutes later and she was like, *shrug* "didn't see them." (There was nobody else there.) I was really upset and mostly blamed myself for being careless with my stuff. A week later, my sweet, sweet boyfriend surprised me with a brand new pair because he's the best. What a guy.

Maeve Juno Dresses
These dresses are great in the summer with sandals but also in the winter with tights and boots! I have two and they've been such a fun addition to my closet. They're fun and forgiving and the patterns are so cool. I wear them both all the damn time and the only thing I don't like is that they have to be dry-cleaned. Worth it. (Outfits here and here.)

Adrien: Favorite Style Purchases of 2018.

For the past few years I've been documenting my favorite purchases from the year. This can be a cringe-worthy task as it forces me to go back and look at all the stuff I've bought and face the fact that not all of it worked out. It's also interesting for me to see which items from the past few years (2016 and 2017 here) are still holding strong. I'm doing better! I still have/wear many of my favorites.

For 2018, here are my favorites, which I defined as items that got consistent use and brought me maximum joy:

Madewell jeans
When you find a brand of jeans that works for you it's basically holy grail stuff. I don't mind paying more because Madewell so rarely lets me down with the denim. My top three favorites are the High Rise Skinny in Tencel, the Slim Boyjean, and the High Rise Skinny in the coated edition (not currently available, but try Poshmark.) These three styles are the jeans that I wear constantly and my other pairs collect dust.

Liberty of London Tote
This was a Poshmark purchase and I wasn't actually sure it would work for me even though I loved it. But, it turns out having a roomy, fashionable tote in a colorway that works with your wardrobe is absolutely not a mistake. There is a reason the LV Neverfull is so popular! It's quite the style workhorse. I'm so glad I went for it and I can't believe I waited so long. If you've been longing for something similar, just go for it.

AllSaints Leather Jacket
The Leather Jacket Saga of 2018 was ridiculous. I bought the Madewell jacket (which is a great jacket) and then bought the Veda Jayne jacket and THEN bought the AllSaints Dalby Jacket and sold the Madewell. Sometimes that's just what you have to do to find the thing that works best for you. Here's why the AllSaints jacket won - the leather is butter soft, not as heavy as the Madewell version and it's just easier to wear. I feel like I'm wearing it instead of the other way around. My grey Veda jacket is more substantial (it has a heavier lining and a belt) so between the two, I'm covered. ANYWAY, when you find your perfect leather jacket, try not to buy two more in the process. Don't be ridiculous like me.

Birkenstocks
I bought two pairs of Birkenstocks last year - my silver Arizonas and black suede Boston clogs. They're both great and I've worn them a ton. My clogs are looking pretty ratty because suede is tough to keep clean (especially since I wear them when I cook) but they're still going strong. I am fully giving in to comfortable shoes but don't think they have to be boring, which is why I love the metallic sandals with the white sole. It's a bit more fashion forward, right? Just lie to me.

Chantelle Underwear
Aerie is great when you want to have a drawer full of cute, inexpensive unders but when I bought a pair of Chantelle seamless? I was sunk. SUNK. They are so good, so comfortable, so superior, so worth every single penny. I now own enough pairs to get me through a week and I'm always looking for more. They do go on sale but always sell out fast. It's a worthy upgrade and one I do not regret.

Universal Thread denim jacket
This jacket, you guys. I mean, I don't think I've ever bought anything from Target that I liked this much. It's soft, comfortable, cute as hell and it's under $30. I have it in white too, which was great for the summer but the plain denim version is an overall winner.

Marianne: I am really trying to think of my favorite purchases...

...But it's sofa king coldddddddddd.

The MVP of the last month is definitely my shealing-lined Birkenstock clogs. I got these as a solution to my Uggs making my feet/back hurt when I stand in them for long periods, and I like to cook a lot on the weekends in winter. And they are PERFECT. So cozy, comfortable right out of the box, so supportive. Fair warning: I went from "I'll only wear these around the house" to "I'll only wear these" in about 48 hours. They are not exactly flattering but I don't CARE.

I am digging into my brain and trying to remember the first 9 months of this year but I swear it's seven degrees and the cold has wiped it clean.

Oh! I remember something! This was the summer I fully embraced jumpsuits aka adult onesies. My absolute FAVE is still available on Amazon. Listen, it's really cute and several of my friends have it and we are all different heights, shapes, and sizes. Cute on it's own with birks or with a denim shirt tied at the waist and clogs. YOU CAN WEAR A ROMPER. It's okay.

My most adored accessory by a MILE is this Soko Paddle Pendant. I love it so much I bought one for Adrien (I love it tooooo! -A) because everyone needs one. It's weighty and a great length and good for fiddling with. I wear it so much...maybe too much. But I don't care.

I am now looking at instagram to try and remember things I like. It is so cold.

Oh right! When it was NOT subzero outside I wore the HELL out of these Adidas. They are my perfect sneaker--comfortable, lightweight, supportive, and they don't require socks. Look how cute they are here:

I will warn you, they do stink after a while. Nothing a spin in the washing machine didn't solve, or maybe socks would help. But. No. (Just wear socks, it will be fine. -A)

And of course, the pants I haven't stopped wearing since I bought them, those damn olive green Mossimo jeggings. I have personally sold at least a dozen pairs of those damn things.

Adrien: Favorite Style Purchases of 2017

Last January I posted about my favorite style purchases from the past year and because I haven't got a better idea, I thought I'd do it again. Of course, this involves the horrifying task of searching the blog to figure out what, exactly, I bought last year and luckily it's not too horrifying! (I didn't buy any of this crap, which...wow. Just wow. Except the bag which I wish I still had and the shoes which I do still have and wear.)

Overall, I was pretty happy with my purchases and also made a good effort to replace some worn-out staples, like my leopard flats and my tuxedo jacket (which definitely deserves a place on this list but y'all have heard me talk about it enough, I think.)

Mossimo Moto Jeggings (outfit here)
Look, I KNOW. I know we keep talking about these but I wear them at least twice a week and they are totally worth the freaking $29.99. I love them and I should probably buy a backup pair because they won't last forever. They do stretch out but I dug out my Beltaway (seriously! Don't judge.) and that keeps them from sliding down.

Marc Jacobs Paradise Rio Satchel (outfit here)
Maybe my best eBay rescue ever! I still can't believe what a deal I got on this bag. It retailed for over $1,000 (which is crazy) and I got it for peanuts because it's not a sought-after style. I love that it's not obviously a Marc bag - just a nice big leather bag with subtle stud detailing. It's easy to carry and holds a ton of stuff. A winner. There are a couple on eBay that are fairly priced: this one has a best offer option available and this newer version does too.

Argento Vivo labradorite necklace (outfit here)
I bought this little necklace at Nordstrom Rack and have worn is almost every day since I got it. I just love how it's a tiny bit of shine and fire but still delicate and easy to layer with pendants. Unfortunately it's sold out (though I'll bet you can still find one in-store) but this Argento Vivo necklace is a very cute labradorite option and this labradorite pendant is very similar. There are also lots of options on Etsy, like this one!

Copper Birkenstock Gizeh (outfit here)
Oh man, these sandals were the best thing by FAR that I bought last summer. I wore them constantly and they are shiny and cute and very, very comfortable. No regrets on the Birkenstock front and no apologies. My black hunter leather Arizona sandals have also been great they just aren't as cute so they didn't get worn quite as much. I don't even care, they are so good and crazy comfortable and I love the giant buckles. (outfit here)

Fan Floral Cap Sleeve Shirtdress (reviewed here)
This LOFT dress was easily my favorite item of summer clothing. It didn't require any kind of thought or fancy underpinnings, just throw it on and wear it with flat sandals or heels or whatever and it looked cute. I love the retro-ish print and bright summery colors and now I'm looking to see what Loft has in a long-sleeved shirt dress. I do think this dress looks like a flattering cut but I'm not sure about the print. Same with this one- love the cut, not sure about the plaid. Hmm.

Nike Juvenate Sneakers (review here)
Oh yeah. I am going to go ahead and say that these were a REALLY good purchase. They're perfectly minimal and stylish as well as being comfortable. I have worn them a ton and they're great airport/travel shoes -  I wore them all over Las Vegas, Chicago and San Francisco. I think it'll be time for a new pair soon (my big toes are starting to poke through the inner foam layer) but I have definitely gotten my money's worth out of them. Olive green is cute, maybe?

Marianne: OKAY NOW CLOTHES.

HEY DID YOU MISS ME. I have more to say! This time about clothes and bags and shooooooes. Not a lotta spring/summer stuff on here because it's cold AF and I can't remember the sun. So I guess this is more my favorite stuff from the past 5-6 months ish.

Lucky Bashina Booties
What more can I say about these? They are my dream bootie. I can, and have, walk all day in them, they look great with jeans and dresses, I love them so much I talk myself out of getting them in the stone color as well every day. (I already have stone perforated suede booties. I DO NOT NEED THEM).

BDG Seamed High Waist Skinny Jeans
These are just great jeans. I actually cut a step hem into them like these and I get so many compliments on them. So cute with booties and heels now and I know they will show off wedges this spring.

Rebecca Minkoff Julian Fringe Backpack
This was a Nordstrom Anniversary Sale buy and quickly became my favorite bag. You guys, backpacks are amazing, especially if you have kids or travel. I love that you can switch the closure up so that no one can unzip the zipper when it's on your back. And it's just super cute and unexpected.

Sanuk Fringe Sneakers
On the same fringe tip, I wear the hell out of these and always get compliments. As comfy as flip flops! [The underside of the fringe is pink! - Editor]

Penfield Kelsey Duffle Jacket
We got a dog not too long ago and nothing like getting a dog in the middle of winter to show you how you don't have a real coat. I mean my wool coat doesn't even cover my wrists! FASHUN! My husband has a Penfield down coat and was getting sick of me stealing it, so I bought this one NWT off of Poshmark for $125--a steal. It is a REAL COAT. Warm, waterproof, with a warm fur lined hood and fleecey pockets. It is not sexy, it is made to keep you alive, and I am thankful for it. I sized up after reading the reviews and it's still snug but I blame my wine and cookie holiday diet on that more than anything. Two warm thumbs up.

Veronica Beard Romper
Definitely not for everyone, but this romper has been a winner for me. It's fancy enough to work in a casual work environment or out to dinner and it's just so easy to wear. No tucking! Cute with sandals and then I wore straight into fall with a long bomber jacket (see below) and booties.

H&M Long Bomber Jacket (Mine is no longer available but this one is similar)
Maybe you, like me, like the bomber jacket trend but, again like me, have hips and an ass and small shoulders and they look just terrible on you. Well! I found a great jacket at H&M with bomber details at the neck and wrists in a matte olive that's very on brand for me, and it's just great. I wear the hell out of it when it's not freaking freezing outside.

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings
Speaking of cold, these leggings are in my regular rotation this winter. I wear them with lots of things--flannel dresses, gin sweaters, they are super warm and a little more special than regular leggings.

Vince Silk Blouse
(this is the exact one I have but there are similar ones online here and here.)
I bought this simple little blouse at TJ Maxx and promptly started wearing the hell out of it. Vince fits me so well and this is a great example of their style. Cut perfectly, flattering, simple, just a little sexy.

adidas Originals Stan Smith Sneaker
I feel like a cliche but I just really love these shoes. I got the navy ones without stripes.

I'm sure I'm leaving out a million things I love that I'll remember tomorrow but I've already hit my blogging quota for 2017 so I'm out! MWAH.
